Okay, so, knowing what you just found out, when I got called to jury duty a year or so ago, when they got around to the elimination round, I was asked about evidence, etc., and I mentioned that fingerprints at a crime scene don't indicate guilt or innocence, just the presence of that person at the crime scene. I was the first one rejected. Aww, too bad. Lawyers are easy marks.:)
I don't know why you're picking on Ford. I drive a 1992 Escort and have lived in Seattle for about 8 years, so the wipers have gotten LOTS of hours on them, and no failure yet!
The only German car I've ever owned was a VW Rabbit, and I paid more in repairs for the car than I did for the car! And the morons are *still* using that idiotic seat-tilt knob instead of a lever like everyone else has figured out decades ago. Ugh.
Now, if you want to use Dodge as your crappy American car company example, I'll support you all the way.:)
You'd seem smarter if you didn't use the non-word 'virii'. The correct plural form is 'viruses'.
And this is hardly a 'victory' for open source. Fixing a bug (or not, as the case apparently is) is never a victory. If they'd been able to put out a version of the kernel without a serious bug, now *that* could be considered a victory.

Jesus! If Clooney's performance was the highlight of the film, I'd better stay the fuck away from THAT thing!:)
Okay, seriously, Clooney _can_ act - if he's got a fantastic director. Soderbergh _definitely_ qualifies. Anyone doubting this should go see 'Out of Sight' (watch great performances by Clooney and, get this, Jennifer Lopez! Amazing.), or 'Traffic'. Everybody makes a bomb now and then. His percentage of hits to misses is still much better than most directors.
> Something tells me thought that there will be less splattered body matter in Solaris, and less people pulling their eyes out of their sockets.
Clearly Solaris is the loser of those two, then. I mean really, _less_ splattered body matter?! _Less_ people pulling their eyes out of their sockets?! WTF?!
Unforgivable.
On a more serious vein (couldn't resist), I know everybody hates Event Horizon, but I rather liked it. I'll say this for it - it has by far the most effective use of sound for a horror movie that I've ever experienced. Great special effects, and more realistic depiction of technology than the vast, _vast_ majority of sci-fi films. The acting was fine, and the idea for the story was interesting. The execution was certainly off, but c'mon, there are FAR worse movies out there, even if you narrow it down to that year, than Event Horizon. Maybe people complain so bitterly about it because they had higher hopes? I dunno, but people saying this is the worst movie they've ever seen makes me wonder if they've seen more than a dozen movies. Gimme a break.
No way, you'll say, "computer", not "car". You wouldn't be speaking to the car, but to a computer. Like in Star Trek, they call it 'computer,' and not 'ship.';)
Either that, or you'll give your car's computer a name and use that. "Chitty, give me directions to the nearest movie theatre."
Nice bit of attempted spin, but I'm not buying it. I wasn't subscribed multiple times, or with multiple email addresses. I used the instructions provided to opt out to not avail. I sent email messages to multiple addresses (postmaster, abuse, etc.) to try to get off the list, and not only did I never get OFF the mailing list, I never even got so much as a reply. I don't know what the problem is, but if you can't even automate your mailing list properly, one has to wonder about your technical competence in other areas. The period covered by all this measured over SIX MONTHS.
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has released a new comprehensive technical report of biodiesel emissions data that shows biodiesel use can reduce emissions of particulate matter by 47 percent when compared to petroleum diesel in unmodified diesel engines. The report also verified a 67 percent reduction in unburned hydrocarbons and a 48 percent reduction in carbon monoxide with pure biodiesel (B100).
One wonders why Apple didn't use the stuff from OpenBSD, which, supposedly, has gone through a lot more security reviews than the stuff from FreeBSD. I mean, if they're not needing any of the kernel stuff, then what's left shouldn't be that big a deal.
I don't know if that's the same story or not, but I was remembering one where two scientists invent a full-spectrum solar cell, and the only way they can get it into the world without getting themselves murdered first, is to publish the specs openly and then collect royalties.
Heinlein - he da man!:)
As an aside, a much more feasible way of vastly reducing our dependency on fossil fuels would be to switch everything feasible over to biodiesel. A lot less pollution, too, as well as better fuel efficiency than gasoline engines, plus the engines are simpler and last longer than gasoline engines (no spark system - diesel engines ignite during the compression process - no spark plugs, etc. needed).
Do a Google search for 'biodiesel' and enlighten yourself.
Don't _ever_ give your name to these assholes - once you get on their mailinglist, they won't let you off it no matter what you do. I tried for _months_ to get off their list, to no avail.:(

I hate to break it to you, but DVD resolution is a whopping 480p (progressive) at best, and you only get that if you're watching on a computer or a _really_ expensive TV. (480p (as opposed to 480i - interlaced) DVD players are relatively cheap, now, but the tv's are still mondo pricey.
I just wish someone would come out with a widescreen TUBE tv that supports 480p with no speakers. No higher resolutions needed (what would I use them for?. Lowest-cost possible with a great picture for watching regular tv and DVD movies. Is this too much to ask for? *sigh*

That's interesting - but what are they taking those nice 1600x1200 stills _from_? NTSC and PAL aren't anywhere NEAR that kind of resolution - not even CLOSE (like around 1/4 that resolution). So what they're really doing is taking the image and scaling it up. Shit, you could do that better in the GIMP or Photoshop, so that's hardly a big deal.
It keeps clearly stupid people off the streets while they work on this project. Good enough, I guess.

Probably too soon for 10.3 to be based on this, but maybe 10.4?
