I also like zap colors, zap plugins, restore context menu, and restore selecting. Lots of nice bookmarklets there. I put a small folder menu of those on my toolbar for easy access for dumb sites.
Look, if you're too much of a pussy about using root because you might screw something up, you shouldn't have the root password anyway, should you. *pbbt*:)
Of course it's possible, but then again, it's also possible that we might all be wiped out by an asteroid impact later today. Counting on a mass exodus from Windows to the Mac would depend on a large IQ increase in the general populace, and nobody ever got rich by depending on that kind of thing.
In case this poor bastard's site gets Slashdotted, here's the trick:
1. Open Firefox and go to the Address Bar. Type in about:config and then press Enter.
2. Right Click in the page and select New -> Boolean.
3. In the box that pops up enter config.trim_on_minimize. Press Enter.
4. Now select True and then press Enter.
5. Restart Firefox.
Once you've restarted, and been using FF awhile, minimize it, then bring it back, and the system (under Windows, anyway) will have reclaimed leaked memory (often LOTS of it). A new notice on that page says this works with Thunderbird, too, so I'll have to try that when I get to work.
A permanent FlashBlock-style behaviour would have an interesting effect on how e-adverts are played.
Unfortunately, this won't act as an automatic FlashBlocker. It disables _interacting_ with the ActiveX component until it's activated. So all those lovely ads will still load and play automatically; you just won't be able to click on, say, movie volume or playback controls until you've authorized it. Basically the worst of both models, really. Sucks to be IE. *shrug*
Look - while the Bush Administration may think Global Warming isn't happening, it's pretty obvious it is. BUT, the scientific debate about what's causing it, and how much of that causation is manmade still goes on. The Earth has cycles of its own, and we seem to be caught at a time when it would be warming up, anyway (and also getting drier in certain parts, unfortunately for those of us who depend on hydropower for cheap electricity).
The important part of the debate -- for me -- isn't so much global warming - I doubt we can do anything about it - but is more about a CLEAN environment. Less toxins = shiny happy goodness. If we emit fewer greenhouse gases at the same time, hey, bueno, but I'm far more concerned about toxins in the environment at this point.
Besides, I've got my eye on some land in Nevada that would be _great_ beachfront property. Yeah...kickin' it Lex Luthor style!
Also, melted polar caps will be fantastic for the mapmaking business. Won't anyone think of the mapmakers?
Narf is clearly Pinky, therefore Blanka must be the Brain. I'd be very careful about installing anything those two came up with -- it's clearly part of some kind of plot.
t's more likely he'll buy lots and lots of noodles or cola with it
Yes, but to calculate the real value of this donation, you'll have to come up with the correct noodles & cola to lines of code written/audited formula. Money doesn't convert magically into code; it helps people write & audit the code. So yeah, the money may very well be used to purchase noodles & cola, and there's nothing wrong with that as long as it results in more and better code.
Perhaps the OpenBSD mascot should be swimming around with a packet of ramen and a soda can.:)
Is this going directly to OpenSSH efforts, or to OpenBSD in general? There's nothing in there that specifically states which.
There has been much talk in the recent past about the difference between wanting to support OpenBSD (and by default, OpenSSH), and just OpenSSH itself. Is it even possible to support 'just' OpenSSH?
Either way, a classy move by the Mozilla Foundation.
Now if you guys can just make Thunderbird stop sucking, I'd be much happier.
Pot and robot chickens in every home! *cluckbeepcluckbeep* Oh yeah. Kung-Fu Robot Chickens, even better! They can help defend against those pesky cows with guns I heard about on the radio once...
Keep in mind that TPM also stands for "The Phantom Menace," and that is NOT a good thing. (Okay, except for the light sabre battle at the end, which was the best thing in all three prequels.)

Customers? Sounds more like a store to me than a church. I say cede the domain to Fallwell and start taxing the bejeezus out of him.

Yeah, but just think how much fun the F release will be. :)

my guess is even you enable session history, the trim_on_minimize thing will throw away the caches.
It's definitely not throwing them away, and it's not noticeably slowing anything down, so I dunno what it's doing.
I thought that's what the browser.sessionhistory.max_total_viewers setting was for (caching pages in history).

Fortunately I was able to mod you down a little as your post is complete flamebait.
:)
And then when you commented in the discussion, your moderation was wiped out, unless you're using a second account.
You do realise that, if this works, it isn't really leaked memory?
Whatever it is, it's memory being recovered after minimize/maximize. Call it what you like.
Here's the URL I got it from:
reclaim leaked memory

But the good news is, that about:config trick where you minimize your window, then maximize it again still works.

I'd suggest a better thing to install would be the CoralCache extension - it'll work on any site, not just Slashdot.
I wish FlashBlock would add a menu item to loaded Flash animations letting me remove them. THAT would make it perfect.

Oh, Canada. :(
Let me know when it also works with ncurses.
