I shall accept it when it doesn't restrict my choice of playback device.
This probably means requireing a open source solution (probably more likely to be BSD style than GPL in license).
If you said "when I have no other choice". WRONG! Sorry that is what the companies whats you to say. YOu will always have the choice to get "black market" versions so you do and will have the choice.
Probably for sony not to slow supply at launch so that enough units are available to buy for the people that want them. Hell they stole all out units (yes I'm european) so they should have enough, but no, they want a sell out no matter what for marketing purposes.
>> I spend at least 2 hours a week updating my computer at home now.
Well that must be fun for you. I update when I'm bored enough to do so, and my machine is always clean.
Having a nice firewall, which is a old cyrix 600 box that had nothing better to do and using firefox / thunderbird I find cures pretty much everything.
Well except the spam, thought thunderbird does a pretty good job of making email semi reasonable again. email is less important in these days of im though, wish more services had offline messaging like icq though, ahh well.
No so, the lack of monitor gives enough room to reduce the price and produce a good basic machine.
As for asrock boards, I've got nothing but praise for them, wonderful excellent things, no problems ever. Though I do go the amd route and use crucial ram and a decent psu.
Not really sure which side I stand on here. But to counter your argument (cause it's fun to argue and that's what sladhdot's about!).
If everybody thought like that there would be no market, since everybody does not why try to stop a market that's there. It's people's money they should be able to do what they want with it.
If I wanted to but stuff I'd want to, but then I want to play the game but anyway!
Look spammers are lazy. (otherwise maybe they'd get a real job)
Using unsub links to confirm or small images to confirm is like effort. Lazy people don't like effort. They are more likely to just get the list and use it untill they get a new list, ignoreing all removels and maybe using 1 pixel images to produce a web server report to show clients spam is read.
I'm not saying the things you say don;t happen just not as much as you seem to be indicating (ie less than 1% or the time probably lower).
What we are talking about here is THEFT. It doesn't matter if you shoplifted a DVD from Best Buy or download it. You're stealing. "Oh, these movies suck! I wouldn't pay for them!" Then DON'T WATCH THEM.
Sorry, I'm afraid it does. Theft is theft. Copright infringement is copyright infringement that's why we have different words for them you know.
Hmm well coming from speaking from one very large company in the UK it seems that would be the exception rather than the norm.
Here we use NT 4 SP5 (maybe 5a, certainly not 6) and ie 5.5 and well hey most of the machines here are spyware infested and getting it to sort it out is so complicated thank to having to ring an offsite call centre who ring someone back on site to come out to have a look (don't you love modern it policy) who will generally just boot from the notwork to re-install from the disk image.
My machine is find because i know to say no to eveything and keep away from dodgy sites anyway.
Thankfully they generally stop us having any right son the machine that might enable us to fix things or change resolution or pretty much anything.
> Just a serial number for photoshop?
Guess you havn't used the current version then! Which has, ugh, painful activation.

> No no, not leaving her. And it's not porn.. it was "sex search".. looking for sex partners. Adultery... but not quite.
So you've never ben window shopping?
> For example you can punch yourself
I Can?
(BIFF)
Ow, hey that hurt.
(Must not bite)
Is that another american missing the point again?
Too late I already got a PS2 for GTA:SA, only disapointment is I really don't think the PS2 is up to the game, ick frame rates and slow downs etc.
Ah well.

Well, here I am at work, using an NT 4 box and writing this.
The company I work for is a LARGE multi-national utility company (electric / gas / water), So it seems they do.
Sure hate flash ads and over page ads as they flicker really bad under these nt4 machines.
Indeed that sucks big time, but remeber there are some pc makers that still think 128mb is ok.
In fact some peolpe are shocked when I recomend 512mb MINIMUM (ie only if you have to)

I think you'll find it was 3 gangs per city.

Online FPSs are a lot easier and cheaper to run than an MMORPG.
FPSs are simple and need not change over time, where as MMORPGs need constant change to be worthwhile.
It's a money thing, deal with it.
Ohh paranoia.

Bah, reading most of the post on here it seems most people think of the world as a black and white place.
Come on time to grow up.
The RIAA (and sympathisers) sees things one way. The anti RIAA another.
This is narrow thinking.
The world is not a black and white place, there are many shades of grey.
<dagnamhippy>
Maybe if we learn to give and take the grey can become a rainbow
</dagnamhippy>
as no ones done if coherently yet...

Maybe you need a dictionary... or a clue stick.
: Wouldn't it be valid
Possibly. However it would be expecting reason. The RIAA are not reasonable.

nuff said.
it will continue to happen whatever.
Thats supply and demand for you.

this is slashdot, we don't go for that sort of behavior
> Computers don't inherently get slower and less usable over time.
You've obviously never used windows.
Please site proof otherwise stop propergating this urban myth.
I would like to say I have proof either way on your theory but my best efforts (ok 5 mins with google) turned up nothing.
Popular belief is that the dreamcast was 1st console to be sold at a loss, and now the xbox.
Other than that they are sold at no less than cost.
This said though the companies are pretty tight on telling anyone margins hence the lack of proof.
IT, keeping up to date?, Patching?

gotta love it.
Please let them, really, I mean how much business would they get from a "DO NOT CALL" list?
Maybe then they will realise that these people are in fact helping them not call people who won't buy their crap.
