It seems they consistantly miss the mark in what consumers want to buy. OK great, 64-cores? who cares? What features does it offer the consumers who are supposed to purchase these to make their day to day lives more productive? Easier? More connected with friends / family?

None of my friends could tell you what WVGA or WXGA is, nor do they probably care.

I live in Boston and see hundreds of of people daily using a variety of phones. I have NEVER seen a Windows phone. not once. Why? Because it makes NO sense to buy one over Android/Iphone.

Microsoft needs to figure out quickly how to incorporate features, functions and uses that NO OTHER company has thought of. Until then, they will remain completely irrelevant and if I were a stock holder in their company, leave me questioning whether all that R&D money is being spent wisely.

  15. The BSD's on TCP/IP Sequence Number Analysis · · Score: 3, Insightful

I'll be the first to admit that some of that articale was a little beyond me at this time. However, for anyone running a server, it would seem that OpenBSD still is the best choice for anything on the 'net. OpenBSD had the best TCP/IP random number generation (recently re-written). It has also been developed with security in mind. After about 4 years of linux experience it took me an hour to get an openbsd machine running, natting, and pf'ing. It was really that simple - as long as you have the experience. Want httpd installed? "make install" in the ports directory.

What really suprised me in this article is that some of the commercial unices were so poor in their implementation. Solaris was only secured after tweaking, Mac OS X, while not 100% attackable, still wasn't much better. Same for IRIX and AIX. I didn't notice version numbers however, does anyone know if the state has changed for newer version of IRIX? It was also disappointing the the 2.2 series kernel was used - have things changed in 2.4? If not, is there work being done in 2.5/6 ?

And if anyone has ANY insight as to why Window98 is much worse than windows95 I'd love to hear it.

God I had forgotten about that one. Man I remember searching the, at the time, brand new world wide web for every piece of information I could find on this game. Does anyone out there remember a game called "Airwolf" for the 2600? I was about 8... A huge fan of the TV servies (airwolf - the black helicopter) and I saw this game on the shelves and wanted it... So after many weeks of mowing lawns I was finally able to pick it up. Insert the cartridge... Boot up the system... Shock... Horror... No frickin HELICOPTER? The game was all about a stupid bi-plane that you had to fly through barns. Man it's been a long time since I've been that dissappointed. Other shining examples as far as I am concerned...

    • Duck Hunt - I mean, it looked like so much fun....
    • Terminator 2 for C64 - 10 Mins loading per 30 seconds of dull gameplay....
    • Zelda 2 - Link's awakening
    • Virtua Figher 3 for Dreamcast... - Man that game was awefull compared to the god that is soul calibur...

And a couple of gems that have literally stolen months of my life...
    • Soul Caliber - If ANYONE has not played tihs, do yourself a favor, buy a dreamcast, and PLAY THIS GAME. Even compared to today's games and graphics it is absolutey amazing. And the gameplay...
    • Super Mario Brothers 3 - I was living in Holland at the time, and drove 2 hours into germany (who got the game earlier) to get this game. Was not disappointed ever.
    • Final Fantasy III - Need I say more? I remember all the rumors that flew aroudn about this game, like how you could revive Cid if you got these so-called books...

Can't agree with you more. I setup PGP/GPG for myself at one point in the past. Fact of the matter is, hardly anyone uses it. The reason for this? Simple - the average e-mail user is not aware of how open their e-mail really is. I remember eplaining to a co-worker that their e-mail was readable to anyone in the world who really wanted to. After explaining this fact (the whole "don't write anything you wouldn't write on a postcard" theory) they still didn't seem to "get it". So I decided to show them. I had them send a message to another co-worker while dsniff was watching their machine. Should've seen the look on their face when they say the e-mail displayed on my terminal. Point is - average user hears about, and knows that e-mail isn't entirely secure, but I don't think they realize just a) how insecure it is and b) how easy (and illegal) it can be to sniff it.
