Not so much. As per standard market operations, as technological advances free workers from old jobs, there is supposed to be a, for lack of a better word, budget to retrain those emancipated workers for new jobs in areas where the company is growing. Of course, this assumes that your company is pro-growth (apparently, a number of them aren't), and that your company wants to be at the top of its respective market(s) (some seem content to be the thousandth also-ran).
For some odd reason, companies aren't doing this...a number of them are just poaching from others, while others seem to be demanding unrealistic job qualifications. Or they are dropping current employees, and picking up new ones straight from college, shuffling the training costs onto the applicant (also making things kind of one-shot).
Yes, we generally know this, tell us something new. Engineering principles haven't changed -> you can create logical circuits out of plumbing, electricity, optics, what-have-you...the same applies for data storage.
In theory, they are already uninhabitable...anything we do might be considered an improvement.
With the Earth, we have no idea (well, some idea, but not enough of one...physics...) where all the levers are, and what process will result in what feedback cycle. Things that happen in the lab are dandy, but the real world has more advanced feedback (read: buffering) systems, so what would destroy the Earth in the lab gets a 'meh' response from the real Earth (and we learn yet another thing...).
With the other planets, I mean yes, granted, we could do some really stupid stuff (like launch one of them into a new orbit...or the Sun), or blow one up, or spew radioactive materials across their crusts because of some really, really bad starship designs...but the flipside is that according to our, admittedly primitive, tests, these planets are sterile. No alien life, no life. So if we screw up, it won't be on our home planet, taking out millions / billions of human lives...and quadrillions of other lives (plants, animals, etc.) that just happen to be along for the ride.
This is because they spent 8 years sucking one dick, and now don't like the taste of another. Guys, guys, play to the crowd! You have a Republican president...write your proposals accordingly! This "I'm going to stick to the political language which was so in vogue of the previous administration until hell or high-water" is why you are getting trounced.
And for those of you hoping that this one will get impeached, or not re-elected in four years...remember, they tried that with W. They tried to get an impeachment going...they tried to prevent his re-election. Incumbents tend to re-elect lately...
Actually...due to the coin miners, and the low reviews for the AMD Vega Frontier Edition...which has twice the RAM and precision of the AMD Vega 64, but is a few FPS slower...I was able to snag one for $750.
Nice card that makes sense business and game-wise.
Not true. I am a scientist (Computer Scientist), and am definitely an untrustworthy bastard (I cheat at poker, and on my taxes)...and possibly part of a global conspiracy of evil (I write software for both world of Microsoft (the beast of Redmond) and for the open source community (who are all peace-loving hand-holding communists)...but I have never received any grant money from any government (Local, State or Federal).
So you see, you are quite wrong in your presumptions.
Nonsense. I imagine Legal has finally understood the end game of revoking the 'common carrier' clause, and has communicated that to some of the higher powers.
Since neither my video card, nor my sound card, are of the integrated variety, they sync to whatever I tell them to. 192 kHz audio, 4K@60Hz video, even if the source material is nowhere near that.
Like the kids aren't going to see it other ways ("Oh no, not my angels").
How about setting a real example of fine leadership, and quit selling future generations into debt slavery?
This article, or some variant, is reposted to /. every week.
Precisely. We won't know what to expect of an AI until it is upon us.

Overdraft fees are a tax on the poor.
We are running out of the right kind of people. People willing to work for next to nothing, for long hours, doing pointless tasks.
You can thank the Internet for that.
I miss them too. 'Kore wa zombie desu ka' was an unexpected find...and I want more.
We'll fight bias with even more bias! That'll fix it!
Some people want to explore the Universe, other want to rule the Earth.

First...and last.

In a car...on the Internet?
I was more thinking of these mice.

Obviously we need to build about 10 walls...
Wall.
...made from ores obtained through carcinogenic mining and toxic refining.
Reminds me of those white mice scientists are so fond of...coral seems to die of everything, including water, food, and being coral.
You know, AMD / Nvidia could always ramp up production...
