    Instead of reporting actual news, networks like CNN (and I guess Slashdot) report content-free bullshit like this all the time. Someone must have been in danger of actually thinking about how government works, and this story came just in time to prevent that. Thinking averted, personal biases confirmed based on nothing, crisis averted just in time, remember to wash your clothes in Tide or whatever the hell CNN is selling you today.

    Guns are cool and we should all have them, but I agree it's probably unwise for everyone to bring them to the convention. They should compromise and suggest everyone carry swords or a baseball bat. That would be adequate to keep the peace and deal with violent protesters.

    Stop trying to be everyone's mom and mind your own business.

    And don't try to feed us "we pay for health care so all your food is our business" (and we've appointed ourselves you new mom, and you will obey us or else). If you're paying for someone's health care, it's because you offered to pay. Rescind the offer if you don't like where the money is going.

    2030 isn't "never". Electric trucks aren't impossible, they just don't make much sense practically or economically. 2030 is in 14 years. Many trucks and other vehicles last a lot longer than that.

    Even assuming electric trucks become commonplace in the next 10 years, what are they going to say to the business owner who bought diesel trucks in 2020 or 2025 (because he needed trucks, not hand-wavy promises of some utopian future)? Fuck off? If people thought they might say that, no one would buy any trucks and everything that needs to be shipped by truck would start to get a bigger and bigger price premium or become unavailable. It would be very disruptive. 100% by 2030 is not serious.

    Anyone who makes these types of 100% - anything goals is not serious. Just as an example, electric trucks don't deliver food to stores.

    Most importantly, anyone who quotes the $0.76 number is intentionally trying to deceive people. Whenever you hear it, you should know that nothing else you hear from that person is likely to be truthful either.

    Yeah, why have ingredients on food at all?

    It's not worth threatening or bullying people over. Food at restaurants doesn't have an ingredient list and life goes on.

    Why give a ticket for speeding on an empty road?

    Yes. Why? It hurts someone. It helps no one. You'd have to be kind of a punitive, arrogant asshole to think its a good idea to be pointlessly nasty to someone driving on an empty road.

    That's just the current state of society. That's why.

    Punitive, arrogant assholes who are routinely, thoughtlessly nasty to their neighbors for no benefit to anyone. That is the current state of society.

    Let's be better than that.
