Certificates serve two purposes: 1. 2 Way Encription. (Security) 2. Verifying the Site's (Identity).
Microsoft and Mozilla's Brain dead Idea of putting HUGE warnings up for "Self Signed Certificates" means that people cannot just choose security. IMHO a certificates primary use.
By using "Authority" signed Certificates people are "Trusting" someone else to secure their data. - and paying a large(ish) sum of money for this service.
I would Prefer if every site had a self signed certificate. and a Separate name verification. - which did not require my stupid browser to click on BIG WARNING MESSAGES. before getting to the site.
Windows has Regional settings, where you set your timezone and country which affects date settings (31/02/09 is a valid date in the rest of the world) and spelling (colour vs color) so why doesn't doesn't it look there and then decide the default paper size ?
Besides being a very efficient way to enter formulas into a calculator, one of the nice things about RPN was that people didn't want to borrow your calculator.
If only this was true for all HPs my HP 27s was stolen:-(
I miss that calc , couldn't replace it so I got the new 49G , just before the G+ was announced
for those in windows land who have never knowen a HP calc , get Emu48 (even that can't emulate the HP 27s:-(
they weren't that innovative in there failed root kit attempt
Sony have in the past innovated - wich was my point. Sony have not tried to Crush the opposition to dust the same way MS has ?
the rootkit sucked/sucks, that was sony music, sony the hardware maker who made betamax, the ps1,ps2,psp,lcd screens, viao laptops with transmeta chips... etc , well they play better with others than MS , who joined with IBM for OS/2 then did a Windows NT 3.5 on the ibm and world.
Well, "far crappier" is relative. I was mostly comparing to the difference between the core and premium 360, which is essentially a different set of AV cables, and an HD or no HD (which you can upgrade up from). To go from the PS3 core to premium, you'd need to upgrade to the larger HD, buy a WiFi adaptor, buy a memory card/stick adaptor, and buy the HDMI add-on... assuming they all exist.
well I'd use my computer's SD reader , use cable because I don't want/trust wireless , can we say ps3 hacking drivebys if there is a firmware bug ?
hdds wil get cheaper and then I'd get a larger one yet.....
The problem with the TV out is that the "core" PS3 has no HDMI out. If you want Hi-Def from your Blu-Ray DVDs then you need HDMI for the HDCP.
So if you can afford a HD tv , you can afford the "better" ps3
Me, I have a 22 inch TV with out even Component Inputs, just A/V that's it. so I'll buy a cheep ps3 (If i get one at all) and wait for price drops on PS3 AND HD TVs
Sony behave better than Microsoft as a corperate entity, usually.
Microsoft helped comoditize the PC Sony really do Innovate
Sony music and Pictures suck a quite a bit...
Both RIAA/MPAA members (like Sony) and Microsoft treat their customers like thieves (enter this 100 letter long string to activate your windows 2009 PC).
And the exchange rate is something like 40,000 NZ Sheep Barter Units to the USD, so it's pretty cheap really. If you could get one shipped over, that is. And if you crazy americans would adhere to proper standards, like PAL and DVB-T.
Nonsense. The idea of having *any* separate partitions on a single disk machine is just cargo cult systems administration. On a multi-disk system it's obviously necessary, but even there the strategy of partitioning by system or data is only really useful if one drive is fairly small and the other drive is quite large. if you have two 120gb drives in the same system you are going to be wasting gigs and gigs of drive space on the drive devoted only to systems stuff.
I don't even buy the idea of having swap space in its own partition. What if you need more swap? Then you have to create a swap file on an existing partition and manage two separate swap files in the future. Ugh.
I've tried this with Windows and it freaks out because for some reason you can not make a true backup of the system. Only way I've rebuilt Windows is to reinstall the whole OS first, then restore the data...talk about a pain!
My biggest Niggle is that XP+NTFS , reinstall then restore over the top doesn't work if well if you restore/don't restore the registry , you end up with files that not even Admin can delete

Sure , and if they are not you get a new one next time
ocationally you'll get an honist one and keep him/her.
Project Names
Lightning = Calendar ?
Funambol = syncml ?
Duckling ?
Squid = Proxy Server
Gnome
Filezilla
Great Fun Names , but a bit hard to Explain to Management or Customers !

Argh
Here's your PC , here's your install disks
have fun
Does anyone have a Whitelist of Major ISP's MTA IPs ?
just adding this to my while list then banning common words that are
uncommon in my industry would work for me
Oh dammit. I'll read the rest of the comments once I finish reading "The Cat who Walks Through Walls".
I don't like the end of that one very much.......
want resolution !
I know I've read several accounts of where patriot and other anti terror acts have been used for entirely unrelated crimes.
.. , they were just looking for an excuse!
They wanted those laws BEFORE 11th Sept
so no supprise that they are using them for anything they want too.
PATRIOT was never read before it was made law , they could have put anything in there !
Scared?
Don't know how you got insightful there but I had to refute what you said.
.....
1. There is rarely a need to see the extension on a file, if the OS doesn't recognize it then feel free to poke around.
What about how lookOut Express hides the extensions too and the user receives virus.txt.exe
Hiding extensions is a dumb idea WHEN THE OS DECIDES WHAT TO DO BY THE EXTENSION.

20G hard drive is huge by console standards (don't know what 60G would
be used for.
My PS2 had a 120 GB Drive in it with games Pre Loaded
GTA-SA was much better from HDD because at full speed on a bike I could see where I was going
having 10 games Load from HDD was way cool , less load time , more play and no getting off my arse to find a DVD
( Matrix chip + Free HD loader ) - but then the Matrix killed my laser - Twice.
but will the games be the same with no rumble ?
I wil have to get a new PS2 (mine died) just so I can play GT4 etc with rumble !

Don't forget 220 V power outlets.
Just go rent it for $3.50 (or whatever) at your video store.
I don't rent because the previous renter uses sandpaper on the discs.
if this ever happened the console would go the way of IE6
MS sees no competition
MS drops development.
Or give the GCC guys and Linus a cell workstation to play with
If you want a samba share that you can access anonymously from any computer, make a Fat32 partition,
/etc/group , change the masks .
/share/f-drive
/share/f-drive
make samba anon user a member of the group that owns those files in
or
[f-drive]
path =
username = samba
guest account = samba
force user = samba
force group = users
writeable = Yes
guest ok = Yes
and then chown -R samba

/tmp mounted noexec nosuid ?

Really ?
samba share on a different partition to the OS ?

how dumb is that ?

what about espionage ?
custom wiring inside mouse , and then when he uses the mouse over a sensitive document....
Muhuhuha !
