  1. Don't listen to me. Listen to this Georgetown Law Professor:

    https://townhall.com/tipsheet/...

Remember, Law Professors from Georgetown are not known for being conservatives.

  2. Congres: DO YOUR JOB! on The Trump Administration Has Announced the End of DACA -- Unless Congress Can Act To Save It (recode.net) · · Score: 4, Insightful

So basically everybody is getting upset with Doland Trump for ending DACA, but that's not what he's doing. He's saying, "Congress, DO YOUR JOB!" Obama's executive action was unconstitutional. 'Repealing" DACA is completely legal.

  3. Thinning the Herd on Honolulu Targets 'Smartphone Zombies' With Crosswalk Ban (reuters.com) · · Score: 1

Shouldn't we just let these "cell phone zombies" continue to do what they're doing? They're the weakest members of the herd and we don't want them reproducing.

  4. They Never Use the Money for That on Oregon Passes First Statewide Bicycle Tax In Nation (washingtontimes.com) · · Score: 1

They say they're going to use the money for road improvements that will benefit bicyclists, but you can be damn sure it'll never happen. Special taxes like this always wind up in the state's general fund and the money-grubbing politicians will use it to fund whatever they want.

  5. This is exactly why the Post Office needs to be privatized. A for-profit business wouldn't be able to survive doing this for Amazon. It would make things fairer for everyone (and probably reduce the cost of a first class postage stamp.)

  6. How would Uber meet any standard that might be imposed by the courts? UberX drivers use their own cars to transport passengers. Is Uber going to pay for people to buy new cars/vans or upgrade their current transportation? Uber drivers are independent contractors, not employees. Any goal to provide X number of accessible vehicles would be unrealistic.

  7. Flipping Burgers is an Entry Level Job on Seattle's $15 Minimum Wage May Be Hurting Workers, Report Finds (usatoday.com) · · Score: 3, Insightful

Minimum wage is not supposed to be a "living wage." McDonald's and the like are supposed to be the first job a person gets, not a lifetime career. You're supposed to learn a work ethic in a minimum wage job so you can move on and get a better job. $15 / hour prevents people from getting that first job because they have no skills and have to be taught everything. I might be able to support a minimum wage if there was a lower "training wage" for people with no skills in their first job.

  8. This is happening because of the Fight for 15 movement. Restaurants of all kinds are going to start eliminating minimum wage jobs with kiosks. Being a McDonald's server/cashier is not supposed to be a lifetime job, it's supposed to be a starting place where youngsters learn a work ethic.

  9. Normal Teenage Behavior on A Colorado Group Wants To Ban Smartphones For Kids (apnews.com) · · Score: 2

"They go from being outgoing, energetic, interested in the world and happy, to reclusive. They want to spend all their time in their room. They lose interest in outside activities."

Isn't that normal teenage behavior? I grew up long before cell phones. When I was a teen I spent most of my time in my room working on an old Apple ][+ computer.

  10. Death Knell for Obmacare? on Obamacare Employer Mandate Delayed Until After Congressional Elections · · Score: 1

The whole thing is one big CF. Remember these great talking points before Obamacare became law?

“The time is now, we can’t afford to wait any longer.”
            “Americans are dying out here.”
“My mother died for lack of health insurance.”

If we can’t wait any longer, why is the Obama administration delaying implementation of the employer mandate? Americans are still dying, right? How many more mothers will die because they don’t have health insurance?

This is just a cynical, political ploy so the American sheople don’t realize the unintended consequences of Obamacare before the mid-term elections.

  11. Science should be required! on Parent Questions Mandatory High School Chemistry · · Score: 1

There are a lot of things in life that you can't do without a basic understanding of chemistry/science. The first thing that comes to mind is cooking. You can't follow a simple recipe without mathematics and science. You can't understand how to combine ingredients without chemistry. If you don't understand things like the boiling point of water or why oil and water don't mix it makes it very hard to feed yourself. Sure, you could exist on Ramen noodles and microwaved burritos but with the obesity problem in America that's not a good idea.

My son is hyperactive by design. He attends the only elementary school in South Carolin that has a curriculum wide focus on engineering. He loves science and even won a young engineer award last year. He also enjoys things like art and music and he has a lot of fun in the kitchen with me.

  12. Is it anthropogenic? on The Motivated Rejection of Science · · Score: 1

I'm a big free market economy advocate. I don't doubt there is global warming, I just doubt it's anthropogenic. Can we really do anything about it? There have been many articles written recently about increased solar flares, etc. It's much more likely Sol is causing global warming.

Most of the radical environmentalists I know are watermelons -- green on the outside and red on the inside. They use global warming or environmentalism as an excuse to push their Marxist/communist views.

  13. Male Genital Mutilation on US Doctors Back Circumcision · · Score: 1

All over the world, there are campaigns against the practice of female genital mutilation, yet here in the United States we advocate for male genital mutilation and perform it regularly in our hospitals. We elected not to circumcise our son, if he thinks it will be better for his health then he can have it done when he's an adult. (Although somehow I doubt he will.)

There's an old joke about Moses where he says to God, "We're your chosen people and you want us to cut the tip off our what?"

  14. Bad for the Economy on White House Finalizes 54.5 MPG Fuel Efficiency Standard · · Score: 1

This isn't exactly good news for the American consumer and our economy. This will add $3,000 dollars to the price of most cars. People won't buy new more fuel-efficient cars, they'll hang on to their old gas guzzlers instead. (I drive a 17 year old Buick that I won't get rid of because new cars aren't as safe.)

  15. Heart Muscle? on Widely Used Antibacterial Chemical May Impair Muscle Function · · Score: 1

How would this chemical make its way from your skin to your heart muscle? Seems like you'd have to put an awful lot of hand sanitizer on your skin for enough of it to get into your bloodstream and make it's way through the circulatory system.

  16. Kinda wish... on Fannie Mae Worker Indicted For Malicious Script · · Score: 1

  17. What about the rest of the money? on Feds To Offer Cash For Your Clunker · · Score: 1

But if we can't get credit to pay for the rest of the car's price, what good does this do for anybody?

I have a perfectly good '95 Buick Roadmaster I inherited from my grandmother. Sure it only gets 19 mpg, but I only drive it to and from work. Last time I asked a dealer how much he'd give me on a trade, he told me $800. The car is worth a lot more than that to me, I told him where to stick his offer.

  18. It's the parents' fault on Halo 3 Criticized In Murder Conviction · · Score: 1

  20. guestnet on Managing Personal Electronics and Software In the Workplace · · Score: 1

  21. Learn how to test on What To Do Right As a New Programmer? · · Score: 1

Even before you learn how to code, you need to learn how to test software. One of the most brilliant programmers I ever worked with was a lousy tester. He didn't know the first thing about bounds checking and what could happen when people fed him bad data. His programs always worked when he got good data, but tended to blow up when you sent him unexpected data.

That's the first thing you should learn.

  22. Re:Does that mean it can run on BIOdiesel? on Ford's 65MPG Due In November, But Not In the US · · Score: 1

Yes, the government should be encouraging people to use cars like this instead of foreign cars like the Toyota Prius. It's ridiculous that you can get a tax credit on a foreign hybrid, but can't buy this American made Ford.
