You've hit the nail on the head. I was thinking the same thing when I read this article. These companies pay much higher taxes in Europe where things like health care are socialized. They have to pass the costs onto the consumer. Or is it that companies selling in the U.S. pass the savings on to the consumer?
Same thing happened to me. I was working as a UNIX sysadmin for a major grocery store chain in Pennsylvania. On Monday I gave notice and they acted surprised that I was leaving and started to organize an orderly transition of knowledge. On Wednesday they decided I couldn't be trusted anymore and I was escorted out of the building and given 7 days paid vacation.
The liberals ignored Sandy Burglar's light sentence, yet they rejoiced over Libby's harsh sentence. What did Libby do? He lied and I seem to remember a past president who thought lying under oath was no big deal. What did Burglar do? He stole classified documents. Burglar's is a much more serious crime than Libby's. 30 months in jail for Libby, 100 hours community service for Burglar. $250,000 for Libby, $50,00 for Burglar. How are those two sentences fair?
Bush has used legitimate checks and balances in the face of an over-reaching special persecutor and sentencing judge.
I think Moore's the evil one in this debate. His crockumentaries contain very few "facts." His main goal, his template, is to embarrass the Bush administration. He is a hypocrite because all his films have a hate America viewpoint, yet he makes millions of dollars from the American consumer. Get a life Michael!
It's statements like this from the RIAA that mean I'll be downloading a lot more songs from Napster;-) I buy very few CD's already and I'll probably buy even less in the future if the cost goes up.
to trust a guy who says, "Trust me baby, I'm on the pill." Seems like this is a pointless development, because smart women won't trust the guys they hook up with the be telling the truth.
If artists released more music that people liked, maybe we'd rush out and by the full CD. 90% of what is on most CD's thate days is crap so I go and download only the songs I want from Napster.
This is blatant censorship of conservative ideas. They still link to the Huffington Post which is one of the most offensive "news" sites I've ever run across.
I went on Vonage's web site, followed their directions to make sure my address was in the correct database. I then called 911 from my phone, told them it was not an emergency and asked them to verify the address I was calling from. They gave me back my address right away. No problem.
As an IT professional, I don't want to see my job sent offshore and it would be nice to see the government do something to keep that from happening.
As a Libertarian I'm against this kind of intrusive government regulation. Why don't they scrap things like minimum wage laws and the EEOC. Then it would be easier for companies to keep their computers, and our jobs, here in the U.S.
I work for Ahold, the parent company of Stop & Shop. I was involved in the development of this project. We're definitely counting on it to bring in more business. The Boston Globe article is good, but doesn't talk about some of the more interesting technical aspects of the project. (Of course, we probably won't tell them for fear of the word getting out to the competition.)

Any of the posters featuring the famous "UNIX Wizard" would be great in a CS department.

I guess it's hard to read humor from just straight text. It's just a joke for crying out loud.
But it might be worth it to keep track of my 4-year old son who has a tendency to wander off when he's playing outside.
These people are all really greedy. Isn't there enough money to go around? How much more money does Lucas really need?
Why not just take the laptop with you when you leave? Isn't that why people have laptops?
I think the hot for teacher stunt was pretty funny. I always appreciate a good remix of an old Van Halen video.
I'm using the same NAS hardware on my home network, but I'm using unslung software on it.

What was the name of the professor who invented Flubber? I liked Robin Williams when he played that character.

The first computer I ever programmed on was a TRS-80 in elementary school. The first computer I ever owned was an Apple ][+
I'm of two minds about this.

I work with Indians, Pakistanis, blacks, women. Our office is still probably about 50% white male, but there's a lot of the others also.
Wow! Am I glad I dont use MSN or Yahoo! search. I don't really trust either company. I only deal with Yahoo! because they bought out Flickr.
The Third Party candidates that I know about are Michael Badnarik (L) and Michael Peroutka (C)
Does Ad-watch protect the listener? Have they done something to get around that?
Wasn't Andromeda just picked up by the Sci-Fi channel? Why would they cancel it right away?
