Don't worry about this, you can keep using your free software and keep you own privacy. Unfortunately we can't say the same about your information stored at DoD. :oP

Once with a list of all the responsibles of all the related domains (including the responsible for the responsible of the related domain) I just send an email with a notice that probably there was a mistake and I received a email from them, and that I just don't want to receive this kind of email anymore.

  7. Meanwhile in Brazil... on The Sinking Ship that is AOL · · Score: 2

Here in Brazil we have a stupid regulamentation that rules that the medium provider cannot provide internet access.

In other words, if your phone company offers you ADSL service for, suppose, $30 they can connect you to the net, but cannot give yoy access to the net. You MUST contract an ISP (and pay mor $30 for the internet access).

This stupid law doubles the price of large bandwidth (64kbps, 128kbps). Just due to a stupid lobby that keeps this regulamentation (note, it's not a law).

My opinion about this? The largest ISP in Brazil (UOL) is losing market share because the second largest (Terra) is owned by one of the largest telephone company in Brazil (Telefonica). Of course that Terra subscribers have discounts in dial-up connections and on ADSL contracts.

What might happen. When Terra becomes large enough the lobby will fall, and the largest ISP will smash his face on the floor.

I can't believe they aren't taking no providences about this...

I see two probable scenarios. People still keep typing (and probably writing) this way, creating a useless habit, that can only be explained in the historical context. Other scenario is this kind of typing dies just like many other slangs, and our grandchildren will laugh at us when we show this to them. ;o)

In my grad I've learned C++, so there was no need to have another course to learn Java, me and my classmates should be able of learning Java by ourselves. I mean, in my vision of a good graduation course (and we are one of the top 3 in Brazil).

It's a shame, but by paying right for some, they create a small legion of artists that try to convince people that everything is ok the way it is (and of course fight for RIAAs interests)

Extension courses are welcome, but each student should choose whick course to do, which technology to learn. No obligation.

What amazes me more, is seeing top universities students ignores the programming quality of the unix world, and ignoring the possibilities of learning avaiable in the FreeSoftware comunity.

They want to make a paid service to become standard when there's a whole comunity (FreeSoftware comunity) avaiable for developing a brand new protocol to become the free concurrent, and maybe become the real standard.

That's obvious, nobody likes to realize that has being manipulated for years. And that's what RIAA is showing us, even if statistics shows that CD sales increased due to the Napster Network influence they smashed Napster just like we do to a bug.

But why? Because they want to control whatever we'll listen. They want us to think we choose what we like (which now we know it was not just that way).

By controling the distribution medium they can control whatever is avaiable to the masses and avoid unawanted content to become highly avaiable.

Now we have realized what was happening and avoiding being manipulated (although I still believe that many of my likes and dislikes are still manipulated). That's why networks such as Kazaa, Morpheus, Gnutella aren't bigger just because they still can't live in a pacific and compatible way.
