I have a SheevaPlug ( dead, oddly enough not a PSU issue ) and it comes both with the wall-wart plug and an interchangeable extended cord. If only it were reliable I'd buy another, more's the pity.
Oh I realize that, but this is an insurance scheme for people who are frozen. The only way it'll lose money is if cryonics actually works some time in the distant future. I'm willing to take my money out long before *that*.
On the other hand, people in their 20s often pick up and go somewhere they know nobody, where the culture is very different and they have to pick up a whole new set of assumptions. It's called "college".
I think people in general are far more resilient than you give credit for, especially with the benefit of what would likely be advanced counselling methods.
Perhaps it's not to your liking, that's fine. Some people are more embedded in their world than others. I think I would manage fine, a whole new world to learn would be fascinating! Besides, you could likely still make the decision at that time that you didn't want to continue, no need to make it *now*!
On the other hand, it appears that investing my cash in these companies in the business of bilking the terminally optimistic of their earnings *could* be a fine way to ensure my comfortable retirement. Thank you stupid wealthy people!
I didn't say there was no iron at the core of the sun, only that there wasn't a great deal of it, at least in comparison.
And to quote the article linked, ''If secular variation is caused by the ocean flow, the entire concept of the dynamo operating in the Earth's core is called into question: there exists no other evidence of hydrodynamic flow in the core.''
So the only evidence of flowing iron at the earth's core causing the earth's magnetic field is... the existence of the earth's magnetic field itself. That's a bit circular, isn't it?
The sun doesn't appear to have much in the way of flowing iron at its core either. Does that mean that it can't have a magnetic field?
Essentially the theory stands at : flows of conductive fluid ( salt water, iron, plasma ) can generate magnetic fields. We have no evidence that there is flowing iron in the earth's core, but we have rather a lot of flowing salt water. Hmmm...
was full of the sort of stuff that's fascinating to inquiring minds. I read one of his collections many moons ago and was enthralled! Not common to find a math book that could be called a "page turner"
Nobody thinks twice about talking on their phone in public. Anyone can listen in if they wish, but they usually don't. It's not privacy that most people have issue with, it's being singled out. As has been said many times, it's not a problem so long as everyone is treated the same way. General trends and statistics are fine, it's being the focus of attention of Big Brother that gets creepy.
As an alpha it likely doesn't include niceties like "installers", I wouldn't be surprised if the HD contains a complete disk image for use on a virtual machine.
And as previous posters have said, this is for developers , so it'll also have documentation , code examples, videos, all that jazz.
I've used this argument before about the World Series pointing to an attitude of the USA , but unfortunately it's not really true.
The World Series is so named because it was originally sponsored by a New York newspaper called... The World! It doesn't change anyone's philosophy but now I can't use it to make fun of my United Statesian friends , more's the pity.
For anyone with a small business an accountant is really a necessity. Consider it this way : an accountant hires a tech to fix his computers. It's not worth his time to try to fix it himself, aside from the fact that he doesn't have the recquisite skill and is likely to do damage to it and perhaps lose data.
And now think that if you screw up your taxes / financial records you not only could lose money but could be looking at an audit and perhaps legal trouble.
And yeah , a decent accountant will be able to save you far more than he costs. My friend with the fencing business could get rebates back for Gasoline taxes since he spends so much time off gov't roads , that's money that H&R will never recover for him. It's a 5 minute job to fill out the forms but it's something only a competent accountant would know to do.
I worked as an accounting technician for a year, did small business accounting and small business and personal tax preparation.
So when a good friend was operating a small contract fence business I offered to do his books for him for free and to teach him how to have everything in order for the next year. By my calculations he owed about $400 above what his regular Mon-Fri job had already paid in. Unfortunately he felt that going to H&R was safer , so ( secretly , so as not to hurt my feelings ) he went and had his taxes done there.
Not only did they charge him $200 for the privelege , they screwed up and disallowed all his business deductions, said he owed $1400.
H&R has little reason to get you every last penny you can , they operate on volume. Besides , that way there is no chance of them being even glanced at by the auditors since they know that they're far too cautious. Besides anyone who charges $30 for doing basic income taxes on modern return software is cheating. You enter what , 5 or 6 numbers and click "Print/send" ?
>>I have seen this guy before. If you look at the pictures, the big red and white suit was designed to protect people from bear attacks. He designed it for bear researchers
This isn't the same guy , the Ursa suit designer is Canadian and the site here mentions living in Iowa. Besides , the Ursa guy isn't an engineer or other sort of geek , he's more obsessed with grizzlies than anything.
a) playing a game with terrible latency and / or controls
b) watching someone with multiple personality disorder play the game
In either case I really don't think it'll fly. The Sims was popular ( well , I didn't like it ) because of the fact that you control it. If you don't have control , or are only one vote of thousands... well I just don't understand why anyone would spend their time on it.
Gotta how RMS makes his own information free, but only with the conditions HE agrees to.
Either it's free, or it's not.
That's the nature of the GPL as well. The information / code is free. It's *you* who are limited , in that you can't take away that freedom.
Ballmer VS copyright ?

Ballmer on Linux

Ballmer wondered aloud why the content of his speech was not being captured and translated automatically, while also being synchronized with real-time video and a copy of his Microsoft PowerPoint presentation.
How many times have we been told that you aren't allowed to use recording devices to capture a lecture because of copyright issues? Does anyone else think it's strange that Mr Patent is complaining because technology isn't being used in this way ?
There's a problem with that as the shipper has no way of controlling how long Customs will take to deal with the package. On the other hand , my dealings with Crucial shipping to me in Canada have been wonderful. 4 days is pretty good turnaround considering it spent half that in customs.
Yes , the companies would get a tax break by this ( their taxable earnings would be lower ) , but a lower earnings would also drive their stock price down.
Imagine the effect on stock price of everyone's favorite enormous software company if they were to report employee stock options as expenses. It would nearly wipe out their earnings , which would drive their stock price down precipitously. Which amusingly enough would also drive down the value of the stock options themselves...
I once ( loooong ago ) did tax accounting for a small agency , one of the things that always made me shake my head was that , to a trucking company , fines and tickets for speeding , over-height payloads , over-weight payloads... these were tax deductable !
So fines are essentially permits after the fact , and they're often avoided and appealed. As has been said , make it a punishment rather than merely a tax-deductable fee for doing business , and things may change. Otherwise it goes on the balance sheet under pens , paper and lawyer fees.
A buddy of mine was an installer for one of the Canadian digital satellite providers ( forget which one ) and I helped him on a few jobs
The upshot is that the signal can be interrupted by lots of water. Heavy snowfalls in the air can drop your signal by a significant amount. Oddly enough , you can get good reception through a frickin' MOUNTAIN but not through a thick stand of trees.
So if you get a reasonable installer to do the job he'll make sure you get a good solid connection which can stand a 30% drop in signal strength. So long as it doesn't drop below 40% of optimum ( or so , it was a long time ago ) you'll never notice a loss of quality.
One of our local supermarkets changed it's name and had a big facelift , with the result of raising prices across the board and SURPRISE ! Introducing a customer card that replaces coupons with swiping your card.
I don't think I'm getting anything in exchange for my information, since they raised prices at the same time they did this. So as far as they know , I'm a black mother of two.
the SheevaPlug at least did have a serial port interface via the included USB cable.

iBooks can get warm , but it's not the CPU creating the excess heat , it's the HD. You feel it because it's directly underneath the hand rest.

Her real name is Trisha McMillan , shortened by the non-ape descendants to Trillian. So no , it's not a Hollywood style liberty
