Actually, this is exactly what betas are made for - to be bitched about. Why do you think they release them? (Oh, at least that's how "normal" software companies do about it. MS is slightly different of course).
Yes, and I expect PalmOS (based on Linux) to be about the same to what is normally considered Linux PDA as MacOSX is to FreeBSD, I mean - the good points should probably be retained but PalmOS-over-Linux would be nothing like, EG, Zaurus. And of course PalmOS-over-Linux is not even close to being here, much less it were so in the days when Zodiacs were being developed.
Your post makes me remember why many people hate Linux. It's because of the attitude like yours.
I mean - don't tell me you seriously believe that going with PalmOS instead of Linux for a PDA was a bloody _wrong_ choice? You know - I were seriously considering getting one of those things a couple of months back mainly because it _is_ PalmOS machine - if you grow tired of Tapwave's special HW accelerated games you still have a bloody good Palm PDA with a good screen, plenty of memory and I don't think there are many other models with dual card slots (BTW - I really wanted that several times to move digicam photos for example). Seemingly good battery life does not hurt either.
Linux is not the answer to everything. I'd hate to be in IT world where it's "Linux vs Windows" as much as I'd hate to be in "Only Windows". Palm and Apple still give me (faint) hope though. Because there is a broad range of people between "idiot consumer" and "Linux geek" that badly needs to be targetted too.
How much do you guys think these things would cost now? Is it reallistic to order one of those in the US?
I know what you mean. I was going to avoid throwing around a not even remotely informed opinion on an entirely unresolved question until I saw the poster's blessing. I mean seriously, this is Slashdot, not um, um...
So what?/. topic is suprisingly factually correct this time. But then if it were "Microsoft Could Make Linux Top Embedded OS" that would also be factually correct.
Bwahaha! Thanks for a laugh. If ever Microsoft makes something like these I bet you whatever you wish it will NOT be a simple zip file format for widgets with resource images, xml configs and JS scripts in it. It will probably be a hecked up binary (they will provide a semi-documented interface to work with it. Maybe.) with uncompressed BMP images, UTF16 encoded strings, etc, etc. Expect at least 3-5 megs per widget. Of course only MS signed widgets will run without a hack. In short - see how they implemented Windows Themes for example. Oh, and you will need to install.NET 2.0 runtime and MSIE 7.0 of course!
Well, mostly yeah, you are right. Unless you have a permanent Internet connection (and that's a big "unless"). Then things get interesting and you can actually save yourself a lot of browsing and stuff.
Actually - I'd like them to have "proper" tabbed browsing "in the box" (hate to say it, but check out Opera). I mean - when "target=_blank" would open a new tab, not a window; when I can rearrange tabs; probably some "good" MDI (again, see Opera); tab groups; closed tabs history... Yes, yes, I know about "Tabbrowser Extension" but IME it breaks a bit too many things than I can allow and it is quite a bit too quirky. I wonder how IE7 will have it done? (Not that I think I ever gonna use MSIE for personal browsing - occasional bare necessity and testing my own work does not count).
(and you can bet that some dumbass is going to try and drink the stuff)
Well... Just treat it as "gas" and don't advertise it as an "alcohol".
and dangerous (Methanol flames are invisible).
True. But I am not sure that when a car catches fire (as a result of very, very serious accident typically?) it helps anyone that the fire is visible. Then - maybe this is solvable with some add-ins?
Why ethanol? (basically the same alcohol from the drinks). I thought that it is methanol that should be cheaper and more vehicle-efficiency-friendly. After all ChampCars (and soon IRL) sportcars, for example, are run on methanol. I don't know a lot about this but maybe someone can post something insightful?
... that nerds tend to have more psychological problems than general populace.
Any links to studies about it and/or "professional advice"?
I find your use of "cat" in "discharge" context highly disturbing.

Don't give them ideas! I can imagine an Oracle salesman: "Yes, it's only a $50 per CPU pin".
Wait till a new /. editor takes the shift and you probably will see it!

Then they should put a label on your... Uh, nevermind.
Good luck man! But remember to keep the copies on CDs/DVDs!
If your hair's silvery, what's mine, grasshopper? :)

Your optimizer has a bug - it would be: UID 100 000. And while we are at it...
BOW BEFORE MY SILVERY HAIR, TENDERFOOT!

I wonder whether more Konfabulator copies were actually sold for Windows than for Macs?
Hasta la vista, Bill!

Will you play with pwns?
Well, seemingly, last time (http://slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=04/08/30/23572 12) you were drinking till anesthesia and don't recall it, huh? :)
It is also much more poisonous
Sure thing. But so is gas/petrol.

Hmm, gives a whole new meaning to "just mine two cents", ne?
