Indeed, a technical solution is not needed for this problem as far as I see it. A little common sense and separation of work and personal life would go a long way.
Very true, 6x13 is the way to go. When I have to use Windows IDE's I install the truetype version, it makes programming in flexbuilder more legible. I may be stuck in my ways but I'm also not about to change something that clearly works for me.
The proportional example in the article is more difficult for me to read, to others it's the other way around. It all comes down to personal preference BUT....... whatever your preference, everyone needs to keep their tab widths/spaces consistent so it can be read nicely by others, whatever they chose to use.
Tapping M-/ completes the word, great when coding and typing variables names, it'll search buffers for matching words. Saves on annoying typos. Repeatedly tapping M-/ cycles matches.
One Two Many is a concept very common in western culture, especially in areas around universities and colleges where many people regularly have 'one too many'
In fact the people new to the concept lose higher brain functions after two and anything after amalgamates into many.
How on earth did this get modded as Insightful?. It shows a lack of insight. Perish the though that people may collaborate on a project from different geographical locations.
Hell, you don't live in cincinnati do ya? There's this guy there that I see almost every weekend watching along the road rain or shine with his face firmly planted in a book.
Although not as dangerous as driving while on the cellphone it does make one more susceptible to the people that are;)
I sure did, It was hard not to watch him kick some vampire butt and then start going "oowwwww!, Am i good or what!" while strutting his stuff, or complaining how red blood really doesn't go with the white of his fangs;)
I wonder if this thing could be placed on a window and used as a microphone to pick up sound so you can covertly listen in on people...:/
Or,.. have one bug on the window to play music, another to listen to it and then record the music into an mp3 or ogg,... then sit back and wait for the DMCA lawsuits to hit;)
But maybe, just maybe this public exposure they're giving robotics will inspire some kid to go out and learn more and actually create soemthing useful.
What linux needs to crack the desktop market isn't what I want. I want choice, I want to see variety, I want to make my own decisions. The reason I use linux is because it works great as an OS and I can put whatever I want on top of it and make it work how I want. If I wanted to use graphical apps I don't want to be stuck in a single choice of how they look.
Call me selfish but I not going to accept someone elses way of doing something if I don't like it, I'd just do what I can with linux and write my own way.
Sure, it would help get more people using linux but unless people have choice I think we're completely missing one of the strong points of linux, freedom of choice.
The whole reason we don't see dominance of one desktop over another under linux is people like one thing and don't like another (of prefer one to the other) and they exercise their choice on which to use, and forcing these people in to one choice will only turn people off, people like me, that value their freedom to chose. I'd probably end up writting my own environment(or someone else will), and because the choice is there, others will use it.
The single desktop environment for linux will never happen, and I for one and glad.
A lot of the problems I have seen is from people who already own the windows version of the game and automatically expect to have the right to own the Linux version. The thing these people don't seem to realize is that Loki just buys the right to port the game to Linux, they pay their employees to port it and work hard to get the game to linux, essentially making a completely different piece of software. How would Loki make any money if they ported the game and then give it away free because you already bought the game from another company for a different OS.
There is no end of posts on Loki's Tribes2 newsgroup of people complaining that they bought the Windows version so they should have the linux version for free just because the software has the same name, looks the same and connects to other Tribes2 servers.
Don't people think that Loki should be paid for their work? Obviously not, which I think plays a major part in their downfall. People that don't understand this won't pay $50 for a game they already own for windows.
Look at one of the things that happens. You buy the windows version for cheaper(more orders, can offer it cheaper), Loki ports it (pays money) offers it for a higher price than the windows version, People are unwilling to buy a game twice(even though the software is essentially different) and Loki doesn't reap anough money to pay it's bills. It's the nature of people and one of the main reason I think is responsible for Loki's downfall.
I for one only bought the Linux version of games, and the people that do that, as you say are few, the others don't want to pay twice.
It's a very sad time to see Loki go, they done a lot and gave a lot back.
I think it's reasonable to expect some cooperation from your employer on technologies you are currently working on (especially specialized ones for which documentation is scant). But it is unfair/unrealistic to expect them to support your Java certification, send you to linux training, or otherwise increase your value for your next employer at their expense.
I think I have to disagree on this point. In certain circumstances it may be beneficial for the employer to have employees with things such as Java certifications.. For example, a customer of a software development house may want to see what certifications/qualifications the employee's that may be working on the project have, such things can make good selling points. If the employer doesn't create an environment that makes the employee want to stay around then they don't deserve to employee someone who has some good qualifcations under their belt.
Having said that.. having certifications doesn't really mean that the employee can actually put it to good use;)
You could always look in to these liquid cooled cases from koolance, not only are they good at cooling hardware down they also run quieter because the fans that cool the liquid don't run at full power all of the time and when they do they are quieter. A 2 for 1 deal.
Also notice the distinct lack of details about the benchmark... the only details given are the system specs, so I would be inclined to question how valid the results really are.
If you read the introduction to the benchmark you'll notice it says 'teaser'. The rest of the details will be coming later, after which you'll be able to get a better idea about what is going on. I'd take them with a pinch of salt for now until we see the rest of the data, but no need to completely disregard them.
...and thats the ability to attract those of the opposite sex. Now, if the 'finger' sized device was also to vibrate then it'd be a step closer to that goal;)
It already has the vibration unit in the wireless connection vibrating alert, i'm sure it'd be easy to adapt it.;)
A copper missile initially intended to strike a comet has missed it's target NASA has revealed. It was subsequently caught in a nearby planets gravitational field and slingshotted onto a direct heading with Earth and is expected to wipe out most of the life in the northern hemisphere. NASA is taking a very scientific stance with this quote: "Ooops!".
Okay, so now if there's a major security flaw in something these people share it amoung themselves then give out a 'product update' to their customers while glossing over the details so that the users of the software are completly unaware that there was a major flaw/they could have already been comprimised/what crappy software they are running.
Imagine what it would be like if the whole outlook executing any old VBscript(not that i have to worry with the Os I run) but the public should know about these things, it just gives corporations another way to cover shit up,... next they'll be forming their own government;)
It's not clear as to whether is $5 to the cost of manufacturing a pair of pants or $5 to the cost for the consumer?
If it's $5 to the manufacturing of garments then we can expect to pay a lot more. Well, I won't, the pants I have are perfectly fine at the job they are intended to do;)
post or transmit any information or software that contains a virus, trojan horse, worm or other harmful component;
The interprtation of this in the origonal piece is misleading. The above is taken from the agreement and nowhere does it say 'download'. It says 'post or transmit' which is not the same as download. However, there is a difference between knowingly and unknowingly transmitting a virus.
Indeed, a technical solution is not needed for this problem as far as I see it. A little common sense and separation of work and personal life would go a long way.

A lot of the Samsung players play OGG, not sure about FLAC but certainly there are Samsungs that play OGG.

Still,.. it looks like they are basically getting people to sign these letters to 'launder' the letters, much in the way money is laundered.

Another thought would be to release bare bones versions with a CD only and a PDF of the manual for a lower price.
They released Tribes2 with just the CD and the manual on PDF, only they offered it for 50 USD still. It sure didn't help them much.
