Last time i checked, my G5 had fw800 on it also. Making it run in target disk mode over fw800 is significantly faster that fw400.
Also capturing to an external hard drive over fw800 from my fw400 camera was faster and had less chance of dropped frames than capturing to my 3.5" internal drive or to another fw400 drive on the same bus. Doing final cut work with the media on the fw800 bus meant that render times were less and I had better playback options also (realtime, etc.).
Considering I was doing most of my video work for all of 2004 and half of 2005 on this powerbook with external fw800 drives, I would say I was using the port quite a lot.
Also gigabit ethernet is not an option when you need to dump video from a G5 lab machine that is locked down. My powerbook would show up as an external hard drive.
The first thing I would get with a macbook pro would be an express card fw800, since I use it all the time. And then a eSATA card, be nice if they made a two in one deal.
I use FW800 drives for all my video work, and while fw800 is backwards compatible with fw400, it is a nice feature and using it to move around GIGs of files is very nice.
I realize there is an express card slot, but it probably doesn't support fw800 target disk mode, which was a great way to get projects from my G5 onto my powerbook quickly.
Everything else is fine, and I can see why apple is not removing the powerbooks from production. This is the transition machine, if I were heavily invested in carbus mixing stuff (midi expansions, etc.) i would probably go with another g4.
It will also be nice to see if the expansion card slot business will take off again with useful devices.
Ah, nothing better than finding some fellow anthro's.
Well, I got a 16 year bottle of bushmills, but at the current rate i might not have much left in the next few months, guess I'll need to plan another trip to ireland.
well, archaeologists don't count. But the Uni has some weird drinking policies, so it was safer to go to the bar with the Prof after the course and not on premises then risk some stooge reporting him to the administration.
The department did throw an open bar dinner for Anth and Soc majors (small university). Luckily it was next to the other dinner I was supposed to be at, so I could meander back and forth and get smashed at one and dessert at the other.
Not as fun as the Anth Department kegger I went to for my friends bday, the department secretary got a full keg of Pyramid since it was her bday also.
Bombay Sapphire, assisting imperialism since 1761.
Last exam for my last class of my last semester. Anthro course. Loved the material, the professor was a genius, so the test was easy. Brought in a nip of whiskey (mm bushmills) and had it sitting on my desk throughout the entire test. Took me about 20 minutes to finish. Drank the whiskey, handed in my test, walked out. This was not a large class, maybe 20 students in total, and I was in the front row. Not that great of a celebration, but I was done, done, done with my time in undergrad. At some point i've been told to go onto grad school for Ph. D. or masters, but I think that can wait for a few more years.
16:10 is to have menu / toolbar / timeline access while watching a 16:9 movie. Or more likely to edit one. Or thats my justification for it anyway. I don't mind the black bars during the movie part if the ratio lets me have two full 16:9 windows in 2up mode and my final cut timeline underneath it.
well, any human corpse becomes a zombie, not just those who have been bitten. Being bitten just kills you faster. I believe it is in the original dawn of the dead the scene where zombies are gnawing on a person and as soon as they turn, they all just get up and walk away, with a new zombie companion. This is why zombies are slow, they are rotting partially eaten corpses. Given their poor attention span, zombies will probably stop eating something once it stops moving, or if they have a new objective (Land of the Dead).
very true. However, from my initial searches for pcie audio cards, I kept coming back to that article, through forum posts, etc.. Apparently everyone is waiting on PCIe audio cards, and creative so far has been the only company to provide an answer. Or atleast, has been in the 15 minutes of searching I have done.
m-Audio has nothing about PCIe on their sites from what i've found, unless you have other information you would like to offer.
My one take away issue is the fact that a lot of audio card makers are having trouble getting high quality audio out of their PCIe cards. as mentioned here. Everybody else will start cranking out the 8 port SATA 2 cards soon (I don't think they have settled on that standard yet, have they?), looking around i've seen x1 firewire cards, but x4 multiport fw800s cards are sure to be in the works also.
Well, the worlds shortest international foot bridge is in the 1000 islands between canada and the US. http://www.ontournet.com/media/images/a7pic.jpg. I can vouche for the carrick-a-rede also, but I don't know if it is shorter. Great way to start a day trip. Bridge -> causeway -> bushmills -> nap.

My powershot A60 just started doing this, and here I thought it was because of the years of travel with it. Now I just have to fine my local canon rep and get it fixed. Of course, I shoot with a rebel XT now, but atleast I can have my point and shoot working again also.
Weight sensors on the seats. It's how it can tell to flash the annoying "seat belt" light when you put a heavy bag in your passenger seat. I wanted to change the settings, and re do the light decal, so it says "Fat Ass" instead, even if the seat belt is on.
could garantee every person in Venezuela western style medical care, diet, and education.
So you mean McDonalds, Expensive treatment for their eventual diabetes and obesity surges, and a gutted educational system where most students don't even have an 8th grade reading level by the time they graduate highschool?
Children is the lack of co-branding appeal. Sure the movie beats out fantastic four, but you can't exactly get penguin "action" figures in your mcdonalds happy meal. The biggest trend I've seen in cinema in the last 10-15 years has been a diffusement of costs and the branding and "other items" market. Sell the soundtrack, the dvd, the tshirts, the childrens toys, and movies that totally flop in the box office still make profit for the company, since they already paid for the movie with advertiser rights from burger king. And the best part is, they are making money that they don't have to give back to the actors, since its not the "box office gross."
So hollywood doesn't actually pay as much attention to Box office figures as we think, which is why we get crappy comic book movie after comic book movie, along with video game movie, since they have so much co marketing potential. That and the target audience for movie goers is 14-22 year old boys with nothing to do on their weekends. The sappy chick flicks are for when they are going on their first date and need someplace to take the girl. I would be suprised if FF still made money for the studio, even if it is not recorded as making a profit.
The only people who make DV-Decks make them for pros, since they assume the consumers are just going to load from their cameras over firewire. The cheapest DV deck i've seen is around $800 and its an S-HVS + MiniDV deck It would actually be cheaper just get a Dedicated DV camera that can do video pass throu (or even a digital 8 camera).
I would see this more aimed towards the walmart / megacorp retail outlet employee. You know, the kind who all technically work part time at 33 hours a week, so the company does not have to give them healthcare, etc. And you can't get more than 33 hours worth of work if you tried, since everyone else is struggling for the hours, you dare not risk losing the precious hours you already have. These organizations already have policies that intimidate any worker who tries to form any sort of union. Like the dining service employees at my university. Now the companies have a LEGAL reason for firing someone for starting a union, but they can't exactly call it that. But what other reason would companies fear their employees getting together outside of the office hours, besides to organize a strike / demonstration / push for better working conditions?
If you scroll up to the detroit mac review, they mention an option in the plist file that says you can change dominance, so if you click with fingers on both buttons, it will do left or right click, your option.
The big issue with this, is I see no way of being able to hold down the right button and push the left button at certain intervals. Like when playing video games, I have right lick for un and left for shoot. There is no way the mighty mouse can do that, but then again, most hardcore gamers would have a dedicated gaming mouse on their XP box.
My local theatre shows commercials, but for local (as in across the street) businesses that could actually be considered relevent for the audience. They are all 30 seconds, maybe 4 minutes total, and there are NO big advertiser "blowing your head away with sound" commercials. It was funny actually, because when I went to see charlie and the chocolate factory, people kept talking when the movie started, because they didn't get the big green preview screen telling them to start wrapping up their conversations.
I take it by alternative killing of the Prophet you mean boarding the vehicle and beating him to a pulp? I never knew you couldn't shoot him with a gun, I only tried boarding his vehicle, because I just bum rushed him and noticed the "press X to board vehicle" symbol. And here I thought I was special.
I reccomend downloading the 128kbps mp3s, and using itunes to convert them to podcast quality AACs, you can fit 22.3 hours of content into 623.3 megs. Fits on my Ipod mini perfectly.
You can disable bluetooth / wifi in software, but im sure they would want something more permanent.
Just a heads up, my G5 has 4.5 gigs of ram and tiger reports over a gig used in wired+active and thats just with light web browsing and mail.app use. OS X fills the ram with as much as it can, so you will never really have free memory (also, it swaps out beautifully, so you can never really fill up your ram easily, i know, I had some bad dimms in here at first, and it took forever to fill 4.5 gigs to trouble shoot).
If you have a cable ready TV, try connecting your TV to your cable line anyway with a splitter. Thats what I've had to do before, and you usually get basic cable package anyway, saves you about $30. Unless your provided has switched to fully digital now.

The delta series cards are PCI-X not PCI-Express, two different standards. I have yet to see any announcement about PCI-Express cards.

Um, in two years, apple wont be using a similar processor. Forgot about that part.
