The article summary dances around giving a useful description of this material, uses almost all the relevant buzzwords, but in an incomplete manner, and then smegs off at the last moment.
This is a material which changes it's properties depending on HOW FAST you try to deform it. Specifically, this material is capable of changing from a soft, gooey phase, to a rigid, hard phase instantly just because you attempt to deform the material more quickly than the rate at which the gooey to rigid transformation occurs.
If perfected, this material could be a soft lining to a vest which moves easily with the wearer, but hardens over a large area when struck with a high-speed object such as a bullet, thus spreading out the energy of the impact.
As a sports protector, this material could be soft over your shins or arms (or whole body, like the body-bag style motorcycle suit), but stiffen on impact when you fall, and the rate of stiffening and the ultimate stiffness could be large enough such that it is just as effective as a hard, heavy guard over your shin/arm which spreads out the load over a big enough area so that you are not injured at all.
As another poster correctly points out, this is the big motha of non-newtonian fluids.
If perfected, this could be the ultimate in comfort for the given protection level.
his company was not responsible for all the hype building up to Segway's release.
Bullshit.
The entire buildup was nothing but hype, from the preannouncment which had no information but "This will change the world!!" to all the idiotic TV "news" shows which had dorks riding Smegs up and down ramps and going in circles.
All this for a device which appeals to the narcisistic assholes who mow down small children on sidewalks.
Despite all the jokes about "McChimpyBushHitler", it is interesting to see how US critics of the US State get rich and famous, while critics of the British State get their heads bashed in...
Hopefully something will change before it is too late.
The really amazing part of your post is that you seem to see nothing wrong with (or have been conditioned over the years to accept) living in a police state where agents of that state (or their proxies, backed by the deadly force of the state) knock on your door, apparently demand entry without a warrant, and you let them in to your home to "inspect" your television apparatus. Don't you have an ACLU equivalent?!?!
Try to imagine the
outcry that would happen in the USA if any remotely similar scheme was tried here (and rightly so too!)
Actually those keyboards were perfect, for the right person.
I programmed my Autocad commands
into the keyboard so I could issue draw commands strictly from the keyboard, since moving your mouse out of the drawing area into the command area wastes more than 50% of your time. Taking your left hand off of the mouse to type commands 2 handed is even more absurd. The modifier keys ( I think it was alt, shift and cntrl) let me make enough chorded combinations to make it all
work out.
My first drafting system was Unigraphics II, so I with Autocad I was trying to make a replacement for the button-box/numerical keypad type of control, which was a hard-to-learn but lightning-fast to use interface. You did need to learn to mouse left-handed, so your right hand could run the keypad, but that only takes 2 weeks,
and after that you can draw as fast as the system will respond to input. After I got an Alpha workstation, the system was finally faster than I was, as long as nothing else was using the CPU. The GUI interfaces for commands now really suck, because you have to move your mouse out of the drawing area. After 4 weeks, you are as fast as you are ever going to get, which is to say, Slooow. ZZZzzzZZZ.
It's as stupid as trying to type with a chop-stick instead of ten fingers.
So, to sum it up: Denmark is festering in xenophobia and inflamed rhetoric; a newspaper decides to try to cash in on stirring up the shit and behave a spoiled brat; instead of being mature and apologize, the West is spiteful. Whatever one may think of the moslem world, this is simply not an honourable way to behave.
First of all, we should all be making a careful distinction between Islamo-Facists and "moslems".
I personally am an escapee from communist eastern europe, so I understand quite well that not all eastern europeans were communists.
Second of all, some of the cartoons created by the I-F are here:
Oh dear. the article goes on to mention that the 1969 model had a 400 cubic inch engine, which is about 6.4 litres, a size usually reserved for cargo trucks and airplanes. Someone has seen it fit to place such an engine into a two seater vehicle weighing less than one ton.
Does your lip get stuck on your walrus moustach when you sneer like that?
Or do you do it so often when someone is having fun you disapprove of that your lip has the flexibility to snap back on its own?
And does the spittle splash on your monacle when it does?
We contine:
However, I would go so far as to say that the ability to drive such a hotrod in no way prepares anyone for driving modern 1.1 litre hatchback runabouts, equipped with ABS, safely through town.
Ah, here we go with the pious economy and the wearing of wool underwear so as to burn less precious fossil fuels. What is really pissing you off is that the original poster is having fun with something you disapprove of. Not really unusual, every Brit I have made drive a car from the period starts with that "oh I don't know old chap" prattle and ends up practically wetting themselves with excitement at doing something *fun* for a change, rather than putting along in their one litre blah blah.
We contine:
Any ass can get a 7 litre hotrod up to 200kph. But it would take a demi-god to use the beast on work, school and grocery runs for 10 years, in heavy traffic, with no incidents.
Most cars of that time period had similar engines and power. 400 cubic inches was not the largest common engine size. You
clearly have no idea of American cars of the time,
or the fact that everyone drove cars like that every day, and it was no big deal. Perhaps when you move out of your parents spare room you can visit other countries and educate yourself about the cultures and lifestyles you find there. You will find everthing *bigger* and less expensive than in dear old blighty.
And please, do something about that reflex sneer of yours.
As you know, all this "golden ears" stuff is a giant secret conspiracy,
and it is working!
All those gigundus monster cable speaker wires that you could use as jumper cables are being sold to people who do not realize that the magnet wire which makes up the voice coil of the speaker itself is about the diameter of a thick hair.
If these people opened up their speaker cabinets they would see the wires going from the terminals to the crossover and out to the speakers are about the size of the wires on those cheezy little case fans that people stuff by the egg-carton load into their PCs.
Me, I'm all for it. Anything that lets people self-identify that they have more money than sense is a good thing.
Kickbacks for stories. Ummmm... If we EVER found ANY conclusive evidence... people love to discuss potential cabals and conspiracies, but offer no proof whatsoever. PUT UP OR SHUT UP.
You put it too crudely, and are thus correct, but for the wrong reason.

You can see what look like hundreds of little stress cracks forming in the clear plastic they used for the case already. How long did they have this put together, a week? At that rate, it seems the case will fracture in just a few weeks. Of course, they say they used plexiglas which has poor solvent resistance..

Motor oil has additives (detergents) to dissolve gum and varnish in engines to keep the insides clean. You can imagine what these
solvents will do to the pcb/plastic parts, in addition to the pcb sockets being made of plastics which are made of OIL.
The pcb material will swell over time. You know all those little thru vias that connect traces between the layers of the pcb? They don't stretch so good. That faint popping sound you hear is the vias seperating, and then bye-bye pcb.
A really good clue that your motherboard is dissolving/swelling is when the oil turns the color of the motherboard...
Funny how this same topic comes up regularly, and yet there seems to be no progress in forseeing the problems.
If you want a cheap way to cool a case, seal the cold coil of an AC unit into it, with internal fans to stir the cold air around.
The other issue that you cannot possibly be dense enough to miss is that the ringing of the phone, the going to look at the caller ID box, etc. to determine that the call is unwanted are an annoyance just like spam.
If you disagree, you should have no problem posting your land-line and cell-phone numbers as a reply to my post. After all, as you said, any crank calls you get are not a problem, yada yada.
Furthermore, Note that your blogger profile has no picture, no phone number, just the town and state.
A quick search shows your phone numbers to be unlisted.
For someone who advocates that we need no laws to protect us from harrasment, you certainly do keep a low profile.
Now, I bet that in 20 minutes I could find you thru free, online, public records.
Do you believe that links to these public databases which contain your personal info should be published here?
Or do you believe that some market forces (other than those provided by Sig) would prevent it if it you thought it were a problem?
Or do you believe that there should be some law against it, like harrasment or stalking?
In other words, do you just advocate no protections for people because you think it doesn't affect YOU?
Instead of seeing terrorists everywhere and trying to avoid every possible 'attack', deal with the reasons for people to turn into terrorists.
Ok, let's apply your idea to this
example:
***Tuesday, November 2, 2004 Posted: 12:07 PM EST (1707 GMT)
AMSTERDAM, Netherlands -- Controversial Dutch filmmaker and newspaper columnist Theo van Gogh, who made a film about violence against women in Islamic societies, has been murdered in Amsterdam, police said.
Police said they arrested a man at the scene after a shootout. The suspect, a 26-year-old man with dual Dutch-Moroccan nationality, and a police officer were slightly wounded.
Filmmaker Theo van Gogh had been threatened after the August airing of the movie "Submission," which he made with a right-wing Dutch politician who had renounced the Islamic faith of her birth.
Van Gogh, 47 -- who said he was the great grandson of the brother of famous Dutch painter Vincent van Gogh, who was also named Theo -- had received police protection after the film's release.
The killing immediately rekindled memories of the 2002 assassination of Dutch anti-immigration politician Pim Fortuyn who was shot to death days before national elections.
Van Gogh had been making a film about Fortuyn, which was due for release in December.
In a recent radio interview, Van Gogh dismissed the threats and called "Submission" "the best protection I could have. It's not something I worry about."
Police told The Associated Press that Van Gogh's killer shot and stabbed his victim and left a note on his body. They declined to comment on reports that the filmmaker's neck was slashed. ***

I don't have a problem with there being a catagory for paid/sponsered articles. Trying to fool/. comment contributors into providing the real content of this site (the comments) for an undisclosed ad is cheesy and cheap.
Roh also told MBC television that Hwang had pressured a former scientist at his lab to fake data to make it look like there were 11 stem cell colonies.
In a separate report, a former researcher told MBC that Hwang ordered him to fabricate photos to make it appear there were 11 separate colonies from only three.
"This is something I shouldn't have done," said the researcher, who was identified only by his last name, Kim, and whose face was not shown. "I had no choice but to do it."
It quoted the woman as saying she felt 'forced' to donate egg cells, having been told that if she did not do so her name would be removed from a research document published in 2004.
I hardly need to make editorial comment on these facts. Those without ethics will continue to insist nothing is wrong. Those of us with ethics shudder with revultion and hope the guy never works in a postition of authority again.
I think a lot of you Americans need to revise your prejudices. As far as I can see your attitudes towards other countries, and in this particular case China, is caused by a combination of ignorance and simple jealousy - China is doing better and better, while America is going the opposite way, so they are simply 'evil communists' who persecute pious religious practitioners like Falun Gong
Great Leader, is that you?
Let's look at facts, shall we, not "prejudices"
We begin:
Here are some happy people being run over by tanks.
Isolated incidents from long ago? Oh no, kamerad. Just last month Chinese police shot 30 or 40 villagers who were protesting their poor living conditions.
I am glad you posted something so easy to refute with such overweening disdain for the victims. It's clear why you are such a supporter of the current regime.
Finally, your claim that "you Americans" are jealous of china
is a purile red herring meant to stifle discussion.
Hint for you: The only way you can stifle discussion now is if you get Microsoft to do it for you. And the rest of the world is watching.
From the pics you showed, the quality of your workmanship is superb..
I was surprised you used a MIG welder instead of TIG on stainless, but it worked for you, is a lot easier to use, and is probably what you had available.
With what, a floppy rubber claw? Foam rubber teeth?
I've stress tested both. Netflix was able to push out 9 movies a week for 6 weeks, and then throttled down. Blockbuster managed 4 movies a week, for the less that a month I kept them.
Now I just borrow what I want from the library system.
Reserve online, get it all pulled and sent to a library near where I am during the day. No limit on the number of DVDs I take out.
Based on my Blockbuster experience, I would not even consider them again.
The lesson they have taken to heart is that if someone is willing to hurt you/make your business difficult, then do what they want.
If individuals with no power or influence must be sacrificed, so be it.
The MSM is the same, they generally don't publish the Allah cartoons, but make sure to put up more abu grahib photos.

Look at Nixon and Watergate.
The break-in was just idiotic bullshit, and a purge of the conspiritors at the begining would have stopped the whole thing in its tracks.
It was the coverup that grew into a monster which brought that administration down.
If ATI did an "Ooops, we screwed up, so sorry" right now, they would be ok.

I am glad you posted something so easy to refute with such overweening disdain for the victims. It's clear why you are such a supporter of the current regime.
Finally, your claim that "you Americans" are jealous of china is a purile red herring meant to stifle discussion.
Hint for you: The only way you can stifle discussion now is if you get Microsoft to do it for you. And the rest of the world is watching.
:)
Thanks!
I was surprised you used a MIG welder instead of TIG on stainless, but it worked for you, is a lot easier to use, and is probably what you had available.
Anyway, great job!
