Interesting, I wonder if Netscape Enterprise servers are as easily configurable on the fly as Apache?
MSNBC will never leave IIS5 on win2k but it will show them that there are better ways to fix problems than rebooting. Although, the information that Netcraft reports on MSNBC is interesting, specifically the two Akamai servers and their OS/web server combination.
There used to be something called the sky marshals who were basically security guards who were there to protect the passengers if someone tried to hijack the plane. They should bring them back. The marshals were authorized to carry handguns on board the plane. It might also be good to make hand-to-hand combat experience/marshal arts be a plus on a flight attendants resume. As for the pilot, I think having the cockpit completely seperate from the cabin would be a good idea, even having a completely different door. If that is not possible, perhaps having some sort of panic button that causes a heavy armored door to drop down to supplement the normal flimsy door should be installed.
I'm not sure, (too young) but didn't their used to be something called the sky marshals? Plainclothes guys who would fly on all domestic flights who were authorized to carry weapons.
This is maybe something that the FAA should consider bringing back. I know that it is dangerous to have guns, but even a fast acting tranquilizer blow gun in a guy's pocket could have taken out the bad guys when their backs were turned and saved thousands of lives. Heck, there are hundreds of ways to kill/incapacitate someone with your bare hands.
I heard on the radio that all of the major news services had agreed to share any and all information they got freely among themselves. I think that if the system you are envisioning were to be created, then it would count as a news service and would fall under that agreement.
Unfortunately, I only heard it on the radio, so i don't know any details
The methods available to the government to bring the animals responsible for the attack to justice put it in a catch-22 position. One one hand If the animals responsible for this attack are identified a public trial would most likely happen. However, a public trial would make sure everone in the world knows who the terrorists are, and why they did it. This would be, in fact, exactly what the terrorists would want to happen. That is why any terrorist does what he does, for the attention.
On the other hand, if the terroists were discovered and dealt with in secret, then the terrorists would have also succeeded to some degree. They would have caused such a stir that they were able to get the most powerful country in the world to abandon it's own principles of justice for all. Granted, these people are animals and deserve a slow and painful death.
I think that if the ones responsible are caught, their identities and motivations should be kept secret. A trial should be held with leaders from major nations present. It may be possible to try, and dispose of the terrorists without abandoning American principles, yet still deal a telling blow to the terrorists cause by not allowing them any free publicity.
However, i believe that it does bear some resemblance to it on a world wide scale. Pearl harbor was an event that galvanized the US and alerted them to the true threat. This act will serve to alert the world to the fact that they are being dictated to by terrorists, and that they need to do something to end this threat. For decades there have been minor efforts to wipe out terrorism, but obviously, nothing very effective. Hopefully, this will do something to make sure these cowards are brought to justice, and that there will be no more such attacks anywhere.
I'm sorry Mr. President, but I cannot accept any statements that refer to those responsible for this act in terms of humanity. As far as I am concerned, these creatures are animals and deserve to be taken out back and quietly executed. I say quietly, because announcing that they have been caught and putting them on trial would be the kind of attention they love and would make them martyrs to their followers. Them dying in obscurity would mean that they have failed at least part of their cause. Of course waves of searing death raining down from American air assaults is also acceptable.
On the way in to work, ABC radio news said that they were getting reports that the car bombing may not have actually happened. However, the cell system is getting a real hefty load test today, so information is moving rather sluggishly.
hell, if i had as much money as bill or larry, I'd be tempted to buy other people jets so that I wouldn't have to waste time flying around to meet with them.
If i did have to buy one for myself, i'd buy two or three, in case one got dirty, or somebody spills a drink on the upholstry.
Even if claims of the server being 1000km away are true, most likely the analog line went as far as the wall, and then turned into some form of fat pipe. Also, "impressive image quality" doesn't says anything about whether there was any sound. Either that, or something like those fake seamless LCD panels (dammit, slash's search is still broken so no links). They probably couldn't get the demo together in time, so they just crammed a VCR into their test box.
A local man was arrested today for alledgedly violating copyright law by staging a public performance of copyrighted works without proper authorization from the artist. This alledged "hacker" could be charged with several counts of copyright violations, as witnesses say that he has done the same thing at other locations. When questioned the suspect readily admitted to the violation, "Yes, I admit that I was softly humming the tune to myself as I walked down the street, but I-HEY!. The suspect will be taken to a psychiatric facility for electroshock therapy to purge the illegal copies of songs from his memory.
While i think that Adam's cubicle is cool, I still think that these are still cool. I think they were once featured on slashdot, but search is still down.
Just think, in the future, CG and computer technologies will have advanced to the point of creating fully autonomous and sentient creatures who look 100 percent like humans, and have the ability to adapt to play any role that is required for movies. They will have specially designed "movie personalities" to help them do this. Since they will only be in movies, not much attention will be paid to other personality subroutines and off screen they will be shallow and impersonable.
Unfortunately, they will be extremely expensive, and will require several million dollars per movie to operate. This will result in entire industries popping up in the areas where they make movies to support these automatons.
These constructs will be designed to be much more physically attractive that is humanly possible, and will be able to achieve freakish proportions in various parts of their bodies. They will be extremely popular to acquire images of from the internet.
Along with these new "movie drones" as they will be called, will come the technology to render fully realistic scences directly onto the medium of choice for making movies.
I like the simplicity too. And apparently so did alta vista. They still have it, although it looks different now, ragingsearch.altavista.com used to look very similar to google. Basically, it looked like all they did was take google's front page and change the logo and the links. Now, it appears they couldn't help themselves, it's got a bunch of stuff more that google now, even though it is a text only engine that you are supposed to be able to use with WAP.
Instead of that pittance that Reynolds will recieve, I think that she should demand that microsoft pay her like they want us to pay:
Per seat, per month. For every copy of these messages out there, she should demand a monthly payment. Then, when M$ says, "That's absurd! It's way too much money!" Then someone else can point in the direction of their subscription based licensing proposal and laugh.
Of course, they'd probably just fire her and get some stooge from the secretarial pool who'll work for crack. But hey, it's a funny thought.
stop with the making of new crap! All i want to see is making what we have now work right on all platforms and the way it's supposed to.
Besides, IE and Netscape don't even support HTML or JavaScript completely in every way, in exactly the same way.

Dell's are good, I don't know how linux would run on a latitude, but, i like those for straight winDoS purposes. Theyre a nice little package. All that dell stuff can have all the stuff (modem, NIC) built in so you have all your PCMCIA slots free for cool extras.
an important thing to remember when buying laptops, or anything is never get the home (l)user grade (unless price is an issue). If you can handle the extra expense, get the low to mid (or high) end BUSINESS grade stuff.
Don't complain about lack of options- You've got to pick a few when you do multiple choice. Those are the breaks.
Feel free to suggest poll ideas if you're feeling creative. I'd strongly suggest reading the past polls first.
This whole thing is wildly inaccurate. Rounding errors, ballot stuffers, dynamic IPs, firewalls. If you're using these numbers to do anything important- you're insane.
It's probably just as good, or maybe even better than what we have now. ----------------------

I can see that you are on your way to the Moscone Center, my records indicate that is where LinuCon is taking place. You don't wan't to go there, you might catch a virus or cancer., lets go to Redmond, its much more fun there...*screeeeeech*
There's also something fundamentally wrong with having backspace, delete, enter, AND space all in the same general area that space used to be in. Maybe i just don't like having to relearn where all the miscellaneous keys are (where are they all anyway?)
Obviously, this wasn't designed with windows in mind despite what the sales pitch says. There are no ctrl+alt+del keys! Ohhh, wait, theres a gesture for that: Simply make a fist, and lay the back of your hand against the surface. Then extend the middle finger until it rests against the gesture surface. The FingerBoard will automatically send a ctrl+alt+del sequence to your computer. Repeat as necessary. ----------------------
