Agreed.. I've lived here most of my life and now work for the state. (The UW system) It's almost as corrupt and fucked as Florida, but without the nice weather.
Don't even get me started how deeply the UW system is in Microsoft's pocket.
I get this shit all the time. I'm the sole Apple hardware guy at a laptop campus which currently has around 600 students with iBooks and 12" Powerbooks.
I've heard and seen just about everything.
Student: "I didn't spill anything on my iBook"
Me: "Oh yeah? What's this sticky shit that smells like a Gin and tonic?"
Then again, the guys that work on the HP/Compaq's have it worse. They've had two or three laptops that have been pissed on. I suspect it has something to do with lower customer satisfaction.
These guides are great and all but if you hang around Apple specific hardware hacking forums enough, you'll come across the official Apple repair manuals which feature complete dissasembly guides, exploded views, etc.
That said, I love being an Apple tech.. I get these goodies within a week of the product being released.
Honestly, I'm hoping it -is- just like a drug bust. The thought of large scary men in black jumpsuits and masks with the latest in hip assult rifles terrifying Intel and Microsoft employees fills me with perverse glee.
Interestingly, there are ways ways to install OS X on unsupported machines. Granted, these are simply legacy Mac's but perhaps with more tweaking one could eventually install OS X on those killer dual 1.4GHz G5 prototypes from Momentum Computing.
Will it be as cool as the pigshit powered system in Bartertown? And if I can acquire a home version, will I be supplied with a mentaly disabled giant so I can ride him and be refered to as "Master Blaster"?
I'm pretty happy with cable and now that a friend who workd for AOL/Time Warner pointed out a little secret, I'll be even more so.
Cable companies make money by selling those pre-configured 'packages' of channel choices. With digital cable, however, it's quite simple for them to control which channels your receiver displays. By law, the cable companies MUST allow you to pick and choose which channels you wish to pay for.
Finally, being able to get all the Discovery channels whilst avoiding the shite like AMC or other such ilk.
Whatever.. until he goes all-city, he gets no respect. I'd also like to see him hit freights. As soon as he got set up, ZOOOM. Away goes the train, with Hektor hanging on for dear life..
