er... wtf are you talking about? you seriously think writing java applets would be easier than writing html for the presentation layer? not for 99% of the stuff out there. maybe that's why it "hasn't been accepted".
yes, your post is exactly dead-on correct. I remember reading the messageboards, when netscape 2.0 had something like 85% of the marketshare and IE 2.0 was so bad it was laughable!! The (very) few people that predicted that netscape would lose the browser war (or that there would even BE a 'war') seemed delusional.
Also, I remember the REAL reason netscape market share declined... and it wasn't cuz version 4 'sucked', really. The decline was already happending around version 3, when MS included IE v 3.0 in the Windows. Why download netscape when IE was already there? slowly but surely the netscape market share declined.

that in the future, more and more people will rely on anonymous handles for their online identities. This is already happening to some extent, for my own purposes, I used bogus information for the yahoo registration when creating my anti-war page... not because I seriously fear repercussions today, but 20, 30 years from now, who knows, we may be living in a very different world, and an anonymous identity (as far as it goes) is the best way to protect yourself.
of course, for true anonymity you need the right tools.
nope, not when it comes to Everest, helicopters can't get that high, even if the conditions weren't way too dangerous to try. You might be able to get a helicopter to base camp, but as far as climbers are concerned, that's the bottom.
Consider that when attempting to mount the summit, climbers are so exhausted (partly from lack of oxygen) that they generally only take a couple steps per minute. A robotic exoskeleton would sure come in handy, seems to me.
on how long it will be before this kind of equipment becomes standard fare in moutain climbing? Everest may not be so hard anymore, with a mechanical exoskeleton and oxygen tanks, and the kind of people who climb everest (which generally costs over $100,000) have the kind of money to blow on this kind of technology when it becomes available.
Then I guess we both agree that the researcher's claim that the ghosts have feelings are exactly as valid as my claim that rocks and pebbles have feelings. Neither can be shown to be false. But both are absurd.
"the ghosts are not only able to talk and think like human beings they are also emotional and sensitive spirits. the ghosts have feelings and highly complex sets of behaviors"
this is very misleading. natural language processing and complex behaviour is one thing, but to claim that these programs have "Feelings" is just ridiculous.
I'm all for space exploration, but you have to wonder whether this is just an "inspirational" idea that isn't REALLY meant to get implemented.
The reality is that there is a ballooning deficit that already threatens the health of the ecomony, I don't see how the average joe will think it's such a great idea to go to mars or the moon when suddenly the mortgage payments have doubled because interest rates have gone up because the govt has a money shortage!
can't find it online in a couple minutes I generally just blow it off, as if there's no other place to look. This realization seems sort of stunning. I'm very curious if other Slashdot readers have become dependent
I did a quick google search to see if other slashdot readers had also become this dependent, but I couldn't find anything, so... whatever.
"Amidst the hollowed halls and exhibition floor of the Jacob Javits Center"
This looks cools, Michael, but are you SURE the halls and exhibition floor are hollow? I mean, I guess it's ok if the hall is hollow, but if the floor is hollow someone might fall through.
yes, "tax and spend" has been replaced with "spend and spend".
no, I think the greatest hack you ever pulled off was getting 4 moderators to believe your bulls**t.
no wait, I mean prothon is tightly bound to it. d-oh!
called neuthron, and since prothon revolves around it, you could say it's more important. ;)

and about as practical. Of course, this is a western canadian's POV.

Yes, the moon crashing into the earth would cause a catastrophic drop in cheese prices everywhere. The swiss, normally neutral, would be furious.
what's the question?

I agree. Why would one executive tell other something to the effect of
"keep in mind, MS is giving us X million dollars, and blah blah".
Too contrived, too conveniently incrimminating.
Then I guess we both agree that the researcher's claim that the ghosts have feelings are exactly as valid as my claim that rocks and pebbles have feelings. Neither can be shown to be false. But both are absurd.
By your argument, we would have to assume that rocks and pebbles have feelings too, since we can't prove they don't.
Oh, I'm pretty sure *I* have feelings, seeing as you just hurt them.

if it goes twice as fast and carries twice as many people, it makes four times as much money, assuming it flies twice as often. any other questions?
