"We can't decide whether to teach intelligent design or evolution in schools! It must be the fault of those right-wing Christian extremists! Soon scientific discovery will grind to a halt!"
The prevalent notion that teaching intelligent design in schools will halt all scientific progress is ridiculous. The intelligent will continue with scientific discovery, regardless of what goes on in the public school system. Contrary to popular belief, religion and science are not mutually exclusive.
Let's put it this way: how many of you have developed your own opinion that is contrary to what you were taught in school? Yes, I thought so. People are smart enough to come up with their own opinions given the evidence for and against an argument.
So can we stop with the religion vs. science debates? (I'm Catholic and I believe in evolution. ("What?!" I hear you say, "You can't believe in God AND science!")
Considering the amount of overhead that would be required to encrypt and decrypt a constant data stream such as VoIP, it seems to me that you'd have pretty bad performance problems.
This is just silly. How on earth does a software program *force* you into bad programming techniques? Either you know how to do it right, or you don't.
... to my coworker. He had a game name which was pronounced like "car bomb" (He recounted this to me verbally, so I'm not sure how it was spelled) and was forced the change it.
The irony? He actually used Blizzard's in-game random name generator to come up with the name.
Oh well. I like WoW, so I'll still be playing.
... that everyone go check out a copy of Julian Simon's "The Ultimate Resource." He raises a lot of interesting points about the resource supply and debunks a good many popular myths.
There's been an "imminent" energy crisis for the last few decades, which still hasn't arrived. After reading The Ultimate Resource, my money's on things continuing to get better in the long run.
... is that they have people working over here to scare people into finishing the scam. We have one of the best criminal investigation groups in the world (the FBI) - why can't they can find out who these people are and deport them?
I guess their employees won't be losing their RIM jobs after all.
I'm tired of seeing threads about GBLT guilds on the WoW General forum day after day, week after week.
Maybe if they wouldn't flaunt their damn sexuality at every possible opportunity, it wouldn't be a problem.
Why do people demand they be treated no differently than anyone else while proclaiming how different they are?
> I know, I am a girl
:P
On Slashdot? Yeah, right.
... that hitting a moving car from another moving car would be, uh, rather difficult?
"Duke Nukem Forever in Production" could easily mean "Duke Nukem (Forever in Production)"
I'm a level 48 right now. Once I hit 60, I plan to start over with a new character (perhaps a shaman, I hear they no longer take damage! :)
Sometimes the journey is just more fun than the destination.
The first Air Bud was a pretty good movie, IMO.
Now how many crappy sequels are there?
And I can guarantee that the cashiers at your local grocery all hate your mother. :P
If I had modpoints, you'd be +1 now.
Isn't this the same as DMOZ?
Mountain Dew and coffee, mainly.
West Nile and mad cow disease were also going to be crises, as I recall.
The information on the searches came from his browser history, not from Google.
Not being economically savvy, how much of a difference is 3% really?
(Like... in TV ratings, one point is a big deal. I honestly don't know how important 3% is in economic terms.)

Eh. I forgot to add: "Feel free to tell me I'm wrong."

But any excuse to bash Microsoft, eh?

At work, I always answer e-mails immediately after receiving them.
:p
At home, I answer e-mails when I get around to it.
As for IMs... if I don't answer you in a few minutes most of the time, you can usually assume you're not someone I like to talk to.
It's not like the iPod was the first MP3 player out there, it was simply the best-marketed.
There may be other portable video players on the horizon, but unless the manufacturer can out-market Apple, the iPod will still lead.
