Well, we seem to get slashdot articles about every MSIE security flaw
Yeah, the average Slashdotter likes to think they're STICKING IT TO THE MAN by not using Microsoft products. The actual quality of the replacement is not really relevant.
I just use Firefox because I'm tired of people lecturing me when they see I use MSIE.
The beauty of PHP is in its open nature and the rich set of libraries and modules which imparts a lot of power and flexibility to the programmer.
I haven't done a PHP install in awhile - is including these additional modules and libraries still as easy as recompiling the whole package, trying to get Apache to accept the recompiled module, then fixing all the scripts that suddenly don't work with the new module?
Oddly enough, the article actually contradicts itself. At the top it says that " US authorities can get access to EU citizens' data on phone calls, sms' and emails" - if you read the article itself, it says that while the US has *requested* this, it hasn't yet actually happened.
I'd define "stupidity" as something closer to "inability to discuss a simple subject without insulting people of a specific race/country/ethnicity/etc."
It pissed me off to no end when I got the original trilogy on DVD, and they'd replaced the ghost of the "old" Anakin Skywalker with the ghost of the "young" Anakin Skywalker at the end of RotJ.
If you interpret his statement literally, then yes, your paraphrase is correct. I suspect that what he meant was closer to "I have spent time in prayer, and feel that God would want me to do this."
Then again, the statement in question is attributed to the Palestinian foreign minister. That's not a particularly reliable source to me.:P
I'm probably going to get downmodded again for this...
Labor unions were necessary in the past. Your points are both correct regarding the 40 hour week and child labor - but in the modern day, unions seem to exist more to shaft companies in the name of helping employees.

Fair comment or libel?
I think in order to be libellous, it has to be untrue.
Lucas is just proving how stupid americans are.
I'd define "stupidity" as something closer to "inability to discuss a simple subject without insulting people of a specific race/country/ethnicity/etc."
"americans" should be capitalized, by the way.

No, I'm more than willing to admit that I'm right-wing.
Remember the days when you could call tech support and get someone on the line who had some semblance of a clue?
180Solutions probably created a lot of jobs in the anti-spyware industry, but I'm not about to give them a gold medal.
If there really was any real accusation of anti-american bias, there would have been some kind of report or media discussion.
I suppose. Now where's those (reputable) reports and media discussions about Fox News? You know, the network that doesn't do "factual reporting?"
BBC is not even left wing by european standards
If Europe is "left-wing"... then it wouldn't really seem left-wing to them, would it?
It's also illegal to drink and drive, and we all know how effective *those* laws are.
Has anyone else noticed recently that a lot of WoW forum drama keeps ending up on Slashdot within a day or so?
I hear abstinence is good AIDS prevention as well.
They're trusting the medium that spawned SomethingAwful, GNAA, goatse, tubgirl, etc.? That's... not very reassuring. :P
As I point out on the WoW forums every time someone whines about compensation:
$15 / 30 days = $.5 per full day.
$.5 / day = $.0208 per hour.
I personally have never suffered enough unscheduled downtime to merit more than about 4 cents.
I've only had to call 911 three times in my life, I've never gotten put on hold.
Becoming an overnight tech success takes years
You must have very long nights in your part of the world.

I got an ad about HP and Linux. Same thing.
PHP: The Language For People Who Can't Code Perl
Sorry, I had to.
Tell that to the Church of Scientology.
Well, somebody had to say it.
