How does this stand up to the free TextEdit bundled in Jaguar? I have spell check and a couple of other features that really take the place of something like this.

I had a wallstreet 266mhx with 256mb of ram for $215 on eBay. it's a good laptop that can run os x enough for iTunes. You can also get one of the old 2300c PPC duos that can run iTunes and OS X with XPostfacto. for under $100. So if you want a cheap machine, you can get one.
I don't know if "legacy" would be the proper term, since my last dealings with OS/2 was as a Y2k upgrade for a fire alarm system. The old system was about 20 years old, with the new one being fitted with IBM systems and OS/2
On the walmart.com website, they have a little banner beside the images of the computers that says "Online Only" . So no wonder they didn't know what you were taking about in the physicial store.
When I was a netadmin, I remember passing someone on their way back from being fired as my pager went off with a message to delete that person's account. Went in, renamed, changed passwords, and disabled the account all before they got back to their office.
For a while it became a sick routine, then we all knew when the boss came in singing "Another One Bites The Dust", we needed to disable an account in the next minute or two
You just made me spit water on my monitor. Funny. No, not insecutiry more like realism. But you know what. Everyone collects something, Pez, Watches, and trains. Just like "Ishtar" or "Cool as Ice" is someone's favorite movie. To each their own, but it was just a lame post to have on/.
While this might seem cool, it's not. I'm sure trains can be a hobby, but only if you're 10, retired, or an actual train conductor. If you're over 15 and not one of the three above, then you need help.
"what's the big deal? so it's got the same size and aspect display, and it's got a slot-loading CDR/DVD. it's also nearly a pound heavier and thicker too! i fail to see how this is in any way a TiBook "killer"."
I saw that this might work on the 17" iMacs, and wondered if they can get the GeForce2 in the eMac to do the same thing with it's external mirror port.
According to "Apple Confidential": When Apple was working with IBM, they had project "Star Trek". That system was demoed using a PS/2 running a version of System 7.
I use to be a hospital sysadmin and in my old job, we had a network full of Windows systems with NT servers. But the actual medical software pumped out through to the dumb terminals or emu software was Unix based (DG/UX or HP/UX) or Novell. You also have to realize that the biggest medical vendors use Unix, SIEMENS, GE, McKessonHBOC.
One of the problems hospitals face is going back to Y2K. Some of the companies were so far behind that they moved to Windows NT to "fix things later". I remember my fellow tech moving the Dictaphone system from an old pre-system V system to NT. We were just cringing because we knew we were going to have problems.

NTLM easily explained
It didn't happen when I installed the update. Everything installed in about 5 minutes on an iBook 600. No problems no issues. Musta been a Fluke.

Was it the 280 upgraded to a 2300 on eBay?
I've been tracking a couple of PPC duo auctions and the price hasn't been more than $125. You can get a 68k one for under $75.
You can get a nice new G3 iBook for under $1k . So you estimations of price are extremely over blown. You must be shopping in the wrong place.

or go $799 for a refurb'ed 600MHz iBook. It's light and works great. They are lighter than most laptops and thinner too.

Sorry, wrong answer. Not your stereotypical geek here. Don't like Anime, SciFi, or sitting on my ass. No, I belittle the guy because it's just lame.

it's sometimes good to see an alliance between geeks and nerds......

I can't believe I'm actually going to type this, but thanks to Limewire the added software isn't that great of a deal
Hey, I'm going to add $50 worth a spray paint to my $800 used iBook and that will immediately warrant $400 over the value of a used 500MhZ iBook.
Salon is calling AOL a sinking ship? At stock prices below a dime ($.06 actually) they have no room to talk.
Now I have something else to do with those leftover cabbage rolls, I threw out on the way to work.
