I'm running it on a PowerComputing Powerwave 200MhZ with 256mb of ram. I added a G3 card, but when I initially installed OS X, it had the original 604e processor. Works good for what I need that computer to do, email & internet.
According to the book Apple Confidential, engineers at Apple and IBM had System 7 running on a PS/2 early 386 machine. They showed it off and it was an approved product, but research costs cut the budget to completely port it over.
Amen! I have a PowerComputing system with OSX on it, and it runs good. I actually installed it with the original 604/200 processor and then upgraded to a G3 400. It looks good with the stock ATI card.
If you purchased a Windows-less PC, you got a copy of IBM PCDOS 7. I had a giant stack of those at one point. We then Ghosted our site licensed copies of Windows onto the machines. Didn't have to pay twice for Windows.
I did....take a PowerComputing Mac Clone, add a G3 upgrade and unsupportedX and OSX, and I have an OSX system, built for about $350. Drives, memory, and system included.
I run 10.1.4 on two machines a 250/256mb Wallstreet and a g4 933/512mb and they both are screamers. I upgraded to 10.1.5 and it already seems better on the older Wallstreet machine. If I don't have any problems in the coming weeks, then I'll upgrade the 933.
According to the last stockholder meeting this is what was said via the Powerbook Zone:
"When a question about open source came up and slid to the topic of the underage developer cut off from ADC support, Jobs said "sometmies the news stories don't contain the real truth" and "it wasn't about age, it was about following the rules" and "trust us on this one." He said a minor could contribute to Darwin, but a parent or guardian would have to sign the correct forms. "
So you can still contribute and be a member, but you need to have a parent or parental guardian sign a release. This is all standard CYA stuff that most companies do.
over 200k flash file on homepage and you get slashdotted. Why not use html and QTVR if you really want people to come to your site and see what you have to offer?
most graphic shops want Photoshop skills and not PaintShop Pro or the GIMP skills. Walk into an ad shop and they'll laugh you out with those on your resume'. Just like having HotDog Pro when they're looking for Dreamweaver experience.
I have to second that. One thing that wasn't mentioned is that you can layout PSD files without converting those to EPS or other formats. I can import PageMaker and Quark and ship it off to a publisher without a complaint. Quark is horrid and I really hope more people make the move to InDesign.
I've been reading a book called "Apple Confidential", and they actually did a presentation where System7 was running on a 486. But the hardware guys got a little nervous and the budget for the project was cut.
I've been wondering why alterslash has been down. This would really cut into the possible/. revenue if another site was offering the top rated posts of each topic.
netdiver.net has a good selection of nice website and cutting edge designs. Subscribe to lists like the ones at evolt.org, and read A List Apart and Zeldman. They all preach standards and do great work.
You can get an iMac for $699 over at Circuit City or go lowend and get an upgradeable beige G3 under $400. Both run OSX. The hardware cost argument is old and used. Apple machines cost more becasue they're built like tanks.

A/UX got dropped way before OSX and even before NeXT was bought. A/UX will only run on 68k Macs. Here is some more info.
Not a lot of info, but in one of his BYTE columns, he talked about getting free time on an old Honeywell or IBM mainframe and that is where he learned to program.
I really am from Chattanooga and would rather have the iMac as opposed to that ugly generic box with no decent warrantee plan. Some people are very untrusting when looking at a generic system. People have been raised on that. Most people would get a bag of Doritos than their generic alternative. Same with computers.

The page consists of
"visit www.macslash.org"
So they know what they did.
nope, sorry these don't work.
If you code in standards, then it should render perfect. Mozilla has had better standards support since .6 than IE or even Opera.

Go to xchange.studio.adobe.com and search for "aqua" and there are about 33 different actions.

You Anti-IBM friend also doesn't know that IBM (and motorolla) builds PowerPC chips for the Mac and for IBM's servers.
