Think. This isn't going to hurt enterprise desktop development *at all*. Know why? Because people who write enterprise applications don't use the free version that's intended for hobbyists / students.
Legacy support is also not going away. Why do you think there is still a desktop / win32 environment?
>humans should be shining like the amazing end result of evolution that they are.
I was with you up until that sentence. Evolution does not have a direction or an end result. Considering how rare our kind of intelligence is, it's not even clear that it has lasting evolutionary value and long after we are gone bacteria will continue doing its thing.
So why didn't they just sell Mac compatible hardware and let the user install the OS? Seems like many users would be willing to pay less for hardware if all they had to do was install OSX.
And you would be wrong with that argument. Even if you assume MS is responsible for all the jobs lost at netscape and word perfect plus 10 other companies of similar size you would be wrong. Those people went on to get other jobs and life went on. Weigh that against the 10s of thousands of lives that MS money has saved and harm done just doesn't compare.
If you think Outlook's search functionality is a joke, you're doing it wrong. I use outlook as a way to help me remember everything. Their in line query helpers are great.
Wish I knew how to get my beak wet on this. I have a WP7 phone that I simply adore and I'd love to get paid to say nice things about it. Maybe Tech* can hook me up?
Going to have to call bullshit. Macs are more expensive because Apple has found that people are willing to pay extra for the apple logo. Their marketing people have done a fantastic job inflating perceived brand value. If you buy a computer through the MS Store it comes without any shitware. If your theory were correct it would be more expensive than the same unit sold with shitware. It isn't.
M$ has deep pockets and can pay an army of devs to actually do a better job at implementing and testing features that Linux has had for years. Whoop Tee Doo, look at them with their fancy QA staff.
Wake me when they add tabs to explorer.

I don't understand how that works. So Ellison took out a huge loan to pay for a boat using his stock as collateral. He still had to pay the loan back somehow. If he paid it back by selling his stock it would have been taxed. If he paid it back with income he got some other way, it was also taxed.
"...and is only selling well because it's the default OEM install."
I don't think that holds water. Vista was the default OEM install and did not sell well. Win7 is a much better desktop os.
You say there's lots of innovative stuff happening on the phone os front and I agree. If win8 is as good as win7 on the desktop but takes queues from Windows Phone OS when running on tablets that would be great, and innovative.
I suspect you are being humorous but the min requirements right now are not that low. It just barley runs on my Son’s dual core atom / nvidia ion system (2GB ram) that does run other games like Spore without a hitch. We have to put the graphics on basic and cut way back on the sight range and it still lags a lot.
Think.

But the money is soo sooo sweet.

In this case, now that I understand it, I think it's bad.

Maybe before 2003 or so. We moved on when they finally changed the gates/borg image.
At first I assume this was about people having to pay for OSX when they buy a powerbook that they are just going to run Win7 on.

"But the legitimate purpose of government is national defense"
We're talking about WA state.
"promoting the welfare of the people"
We need good schools for that.
Slashdot finally got rid of the Borg Gates image after all and people who still type M$ are openly mocked.
Is this a product that you are proud to be a part of? If yes then just be honest when you post. If not then I would ignore the email.
I was confused by that too. And why would China want to *help* a US company by giving Boeing Airbus info?

Where’s the loophole?
I don't think you thought that through. WP7 isn't the top selling but it is rated as the best. So that makes it the Infiniti G37 in your analogy?
The NSA is reading everything I write already. If I make them work for it it's just a waste of tax payer money. Clear text all the way.
I was coding way before the app store was big. Does that make me some kind of hipster?
Yep. This is a non-issue. Anyone who cares will not be walking into the MS walled metro garden anyway.
Creator of morality? Are you really sure about that?
They should move to a right to work state and save money.
