It's not crumbling, it's better than it has been since any time I've been alive thanks to having the greatest president in that span of time. The media just scream it's crumbling to no end because all their corrupt buddies are getting flushed out of the swamp with nowhere left to go.
This, you really don't ever want to fuck with the FCC - they only even enforce things that are actual problems and this is down-right generous on their part compared to all the stories I've heard. They have a legitimate function and take it very seriously. The closest anyone ever came to successfully transgressing was that time the satellite internet+radio guys tried to buy politicians to use the GPS spectrum, until a general put a stop to it saying "no, this would break all our shit and leave us defenseless" and the company subsequently went under.
Hey, at least children won't be dying of Global Warming, right?
Considering NOAA just got caught fudging the numbers again, I seriously doubt that was ever a real concern. That said, all-electric vehicles are definitely nicer because the smell of combustion engines is unpleasant and we're more or less fucked in the event of any oil supply disruption (for example, most of the oil we use in the US is refined in the southeastern US between a handful of refineries, if those were destroyed for whatever reason the whole system would collapse and even hording gas wouldn't do any good because it goes bad after about 6 months exposed to air.) Electric vehicles are a move toward distributed electricity, production, and stability and distributing that stuff is always good for us in the long run. The rest of the world is inherently our inferior anyway, so who cares how they extract the Cobalt?
Don't be stupid, the media want to make money and sell their news.
You are irredeemably mentally deficient. The media hasn't been profitable for decades from consumer sales, they exist exclusively to pump out paid-for articles on behalf of corporations, government, political parties, and others willing to pay for fake news. Truth in journalism hasn't existed for at least 2 decades, and there is public information suggesting the government has been manipulating the media since at least the 40's without stop.
I wouldn't even require opt-in or a 5-free-add delay. If someone is legitimately reading an article they aren't using their computer to do anything particularly intensive anyway so there's no reason not just start mining to the single-thread limit of the browser window. It's just JavaScript, it's not going to kill your GPU.
There's literally zero reason for mining software to track you aside from ensuring you aren't feeding it fake results, the ads are the ones with reason to collect data.
Careful man,/. has become "news for people pretending to be nerds," as such we must welcome the dregs of comic conventions with open arms.
Oh wait, we don't. Fuck the wannabe nerds, send everyone who upvotes this story back to Reddit where they belong, this shit article doesn't even meet the qualifier of "tech" which most of the slashvertizements do.
Beats the Hell out of paid advertising, intrusive marketing/data-capture, paid-for-articles, etc. There is some value in journalism, and I'd rank that value about equal to whatever they can manage to mine in cryptocoins in the span it takes me to read and close the page - if they make really long enthralling articles they get more - if they make shitty little summaries or 20-page breakdowns showing a paragraph of text each which annoy the fuck out of me their miner has to start reprocessing and gets nothing done. This is arguably the best possible revenue model for the internet as a whole to move toward.
You're just making shit up. They literally fired all their people in Finland and killed their phone lines because they said the country had too many white males. They then followed up by stating that as the reason, then stopping a public chatbot they created because they thought it was being politically incorrect. Microsoft is as SJW as it gets.
As an engineer turned marketing, I think you're off base.
You literally proved my point AND attempted to refute it in the same sentence. Then you even expounded upon it. Honestly can't tell if this is an expert troll or a mentally deficient city dweller, well played.
Junior developers, especially out of college, will break more than they fix for the first ~4 years. Why would a company want to shoulder that burden, just to have the self-absorbed millennial believe they're getting screwed over the entire time because they're so special and leave the moment they start to break even? The only junior devs worth hiring are self-taught teenagers - formal education and code don't even mix, it's just brainwashing of impressionable youths with Java development standards nobody in any productive (e.g. non-educational) environment would be caught dead using plus a generous helping of extremist liberal political ideologies which create intra-office strife when your ideal employees are a bunch of tech-absorbed autists.
OKCupid has long used their userbase for social experimentation. They only match people with those unlikely to work out, because it means they keep coming back and paying while thinking "well, it's matching me with people and I'm getting dates, it must just not be the right one." They're especially fans of social justice matchmaking.
Microsoft is an SJW company so chances are they will give women and minorities the top estimated salary of a range and white males the bottom. That in itself will influence what people are pitching themselves as.
I've been on FreeBSD for years specifically because I trusted them to go full-autism and just ignore the political nonsense. Now it's here too...Are there any non-politically-correct and secure operating systems left?
So... people don't pay attention to their surroundings and somehow it's the building's fault?
You are the ultimate Apple sheep. They literally designed their building such that it was a maze of glass walls, reprimand employees for putting post-it notes on them so they can see where they are (because it detracts from aesthetics,) and you defend the form-over-function design pattern.
Does the existence of a class action stop you suing them yourself?
Yes, if you don't take efforts to opt out of them all. Class action lawsuits are auto-opt-in, you have to personally track down and remove yourself from the list of people on each one to be able to sue because you can't sue twice. This means that while actual damages were around 70% of the cost paid for any Intel CPUs over the years (since that's the power loss and false advertising they conducting) you'll get a couple cents, if you explicitly state that, and the lawyers will get the rest. This class action suit should be enough to bankrupt Intel, but thanks to our backwards system they get to keep sticking it to us with their near monopoly.
The real loser here are the employees of the company. They got an email from their boss manipulating them into leaving fake reviews (essentially threatening to shut down jobs if they didn't), and now they're virtually guaranteed to lose their jobs.
Beats making another sociopath rich, they can get another job, their boss is likely deeply invested and going to lose much more.

You mean like...the only people to ever get to the moon?
If we had more resources dedicated to rednecks we'd be raping and pillaging alien civilizations by now as payback for all the anal probes.

The point was that city dwellers are marketing and sales people. "Wastes of space" wasn't even used as a modifier but a qualifier.

Check their blog, they go on at length about their social experiments.

To seek out alien life and fuck it until it stops squirming.

Microsoft: You're still using our products in spite of a host of better alternatives, so we're going to cut costs by not buying lube anymore.
Africa isn't just a bunch of red neck equivalent tribes.
You couldn't be more right, they never made it to the moon.
