By your standards, 100% of the electronics, computer and software industry is organized crime. That may stroke your ideological fervor, but it's of little practical value. Even Linus Torvalds uses a machine where less than 100% of the IP for all parts, software and manufacturing equipment is open. I'll happily continue using devices, participating in that industry and earning a living. I'm wondering how you made that post while avoiding any contact with the product of, as you label it, organized crime.
Looking at the FPGA code, it targets Xilinx devices. The OP points out using proprietary (but free) tools from Xilinx makes it "not open", I guess in the same way that the chips used on the card are "not open". I think it misses the point, but whatever.
Skynet has been around for a while, and it is running AT&T. Executive Bonus Recovery Fee tagged on to wireless bills under contract? Humanity is doomed.
Good enough for me. I've got my Ted Nugent brand bow and am ready to take down a predator! Cat scratch fever! Duh duh duh! Cat scratch fever! Dur dur dur!
Then why the cry-ass entitlement complaint about 100k?
There was no cry-ass entitlement complaint, just a statement of fact. At first I was irritated at your stupidity, now I just feel sorry for your complete lack of comprehension and perverse need to make baseless insults. You lead a sad, pointless life.
No, I'm a Texas veteran who paid for his college with a combination of participation in the VEAP program and a part time job during school, and am now giving back to my family by helping a nephew pay for his school. I know the numbers, I paid my dues. Now crawl back to your basement in shame, troll.
AT&T increasing wireless bills over the contracted amount by adding bogus "recovery" fees is malice. In fact, it is so outrageously abusive I would call it Malice in Wonderland.
...he only uses "extreme" language when (1) the person he's addressing did something really stupid ("merely stupid" isn't enough) and (2) that person really should have known better (so he doesn't tend to do this to strangers, only people he's well acquainted with, and has some trust in). He doesn't just call people names, he makes detailed technical arguments which happen to be decorated with er, expressive language.
Sometimes this is true. Sometimes he lets fly an abusive knee jerk reaction before he knows the facts, and later admits it saying something along the lines "that's just the way I am, get used to it" instead of apologizing to the target who was often correct. I've seen it happen repeatedly and since 1998.
I have no problem with LKML being rough and tumble with no manners. Just don't pretend every word out of Linus' mouth is a gem of logic and justice.
No kidding. With big names like Comcast, Time Warner, Fox and Disney you KNOW every decision made will be brutally abusive of the customer. It's in their DNA.
Steve Ballmer has already done that.
manufacturing of physical goods can still be paid
How magnanimous of you.
In other words: You deal with organized crime.

Then give them away to /. editors.
What's the mechanism that ties stock price to "value", exactly?
Magic 8 Ball is my broker.
It's all hat and no cowboy.
All hat and no cattle is the expression you are looking for.

I think the main point is to mount this in Bezos' man cave next to the Labatt neon sign and pool table.
We promise we're not brain-dead morons.

I remember developing on a PowerPC 601 box for Windows NT. Then... nothing. Abandoned. Wasted effort.
I'm sure swag obsessed developers could find a use for these RT devices.
The tag on each Surface RT device reads "do not remove under penalty of law".

You must be an east-coast trust-fund baby

$25K/year for room, board, tuition, fees and books is typical for a state college. 4 years for a degree = $100K.
Makes you wonder how much they gave to congress for more H1Bs. A lot more than $100K for sure.
PR on the cheap.
Fight the man, man.

Davros (Revelation of the Daleks, Pt.2): You can not steal what already has been abandoned.
After glancing over the summary, I'm fine with doctors are experimenting on terrorist dwarves.

I fell into a burning ring of fire
Boeing's stock went down and the flames went higher
and it burns, burns, burns, the ring of fire
the ring of fire
Which political opponents are being held without trial? Hint: those held at Guantanamo (a shameful thing) are not political opponents.
