I wouldn't want to be in #occupy-Houston right now...
"An investigation has determined that police acted correctly when shooting protesters from unmanned aerial drones to protect citizens from unsanitary conditions in the park"
No, of course Microsoft cannot "control" me into buying a Zune. What does that have do to with a chemical corporation controlling congressmen into quietly passing a bill that waives environmental restrictions on dumping toxins into a river? Or prison corporations controlling lobbyists that push for harsher Marijuana laws to expand their prisons? Or every single law passed by "OUR" government being ghost-written by corporate lobbyists?
> Something tells me they're going to do with this that they did with the xbox: burn money until it takes hold. MS absolutely doesn't want to be pushed completely out of the smartphone space, which is a primary driver for them attacking Android.
If Microsoft had any faith in their ability to make great products, they would have been one of the first to jump on Android and made a must-have Android phone that kicks the iPhones arse. It would have included all kinds of proprietary Microsoft secret sauce that made it integrate seamlessly with Windows desktops, which like it or not 90% of us have.
Many of us would have given it a chance because we wanted something that worked well with our desktops.
But instead Microsoft revealed their deepest fear that they cannot make a decent product and cannot compete on a level playing field against more creative companies. They invented their own and are trying to win by making deals with other companies to spread fear and doubt about patents and lawsuits.
Last week I got to play with a Windows phone for the first time. It had a START button that filled the screen with program names. I clicked around until I got a cryptic error about a device driver.
I heard the gingers are trying to recruit as well. They are using slideshows, children's books and red-head radio talk shows to try and convince us they aren't evil. I thought my will was strong, but the other day I hesitated in front of a bottle of red hair dye in the supermarket.
Yeah, I never got the love for Superman either. Nothing can hurt him, so how is he heroic?
It used to crack me up when the old black-and-white Superman TV show had him stand there chest out while the bad guys shot at him, then when they ran out of bullets and threw the gun at him HE WOULD DUCK to dodge the thrown gun!?
I know this is overkill compared to SFV, but I set up an OpenSolaris server using ZFS to ensure my data is uncorrupted. Every block has a checksum which is checked every time I read it, and also checked when a monthly scrub (health check) is run. I have 2 mirrored 2TB drives, which is enough for all of my home photos and videos. ZFS has mirroring and RAID built in. I also run a monthly script to 'zfs send' just the incrementally changed data to a second OpenSolaris server under my desk at work.
Yes, C4 going off near the Pentagon would cause a frenzy of authoritarian crackdowns, civil rights removals and economic damage. It would be quite successful in its goals.
Yes. Physicists. Oh, and video game players. Physicists and video gamers. Oh, and those degenerate Dungeons and Dragons players. Physicists, video gamers, and D&D players. Not too sure about Harry Potter fans either.
I'm all for a cleaner fork of Firefox, but I am curious: Just how does someone get "very rich" by making a better version of a free product and giving it away for free?
Stupid reaction on the cops part. These protests have been completely ignored by the media until the cops started beating heads. Even topless women protesters didn't get the media interested.
Are you serious? Programming jobs are all being sent to India and other cheap but educated places. Many IT jobs require your physical presence, especially at small and mid-sized companies where they don't have the infrastructure to virtualize everything.
I'm in the field. Guttman hasn't been accurate for over a decade. Modern drives pack the bits much closer together. Nothing can be recovered after a single wipe with all zeros or better all pseudo-random. Even Guttman himself acknowledges this: "For any modern PRML/EPRML drive, a few passes of random scrubbing is the best you can do."
There always are... Like bacteria, you can assume they will always be probing every orifice looking for a way to disrupt you.
I'd like one of those glow-lights that reveal the presence of bacteria and make people exclaim in disgust, "Ewww! They're all over everything! They're all over ME!"... except this glow-light reveals the presence of lawyers and the friction and cost they introduce into everything we do, "Ewww! There is litigation all over everything! It's chilling effect is all over ME!"...
Today PETA announced they have acquired the web site 4chan and will be using it, unmodified, as a promotional and educational tool to help protect animals through a mix of animal suffering footage and porn.
> face penalties for spoilation of evidence
> Note: I am NOT a lawyer
No, clearly you aren't. It's "SPOLiation of evidence", not "SPOILation".
But everyone knows what you meant, so my point is mute.
> the "good cops" make up more than 20% of the force at any given precinct across the country.
Those 20% are covering up for the "bad eggs", which puts them squarely in the "bad egg" category as well.

How absurd,

Why would anyone ever want that on a phone?

"Daddy, my toy won't print. I need help finding which of my vertexes' normal vector is non-manifold."
Yes, please... in terms we can all understand: How many libraries of congress will it cost?

I use fsarchiver, and as far as I can tell it is better in every way than ntfsclone, clonezilla, et al.
And replace Obushma with who? Down with the Republicans! Down with the Democrats!
Say hello to the new boss, same as the old boss.
Reality is not an agenda.

Copy one thousand blocks of bread to standard output. I think it means feed a thousand people. It should have been written
dd -n 1000 if=/dev/bread
Perhaps when there is nothing left to do we can spend some of our idle time getting food to the other 6 billion that don't have any.
