I'm on Win7 at the moment, the audio tools that I need are there and native, drivers for high-end audio hardware exist, I get results...

You're correct, although this is not so much a problem for me as 90% of my friends are on MSN, ho-hum... I use GAIM when I'm in Debian, and it blows Kopete away (I am a KDE'er btw although I'm on the Windows partion atm for some HL2 :)

I used Trillian for a while up to ~0.74 but it felt, well, a bit clunky (as if GTK doesn't feel that way anyway on Win32, I know...) Anyhoo, for me, GAIM feels prettly light, small, fast enough. I guess also the fact that I can use the same interface on Win and Linux is a big deal for me, and that I don't have to resize my buddy icons to 7k is a boost for a lazy fecker like myself...

Cool link btw, works here with Win GAIM, cheers.

There was a bug in Mozilla that caused very high (~99%) cpu usage when multiple tabs simultaneously used the flash plugin. While I can't say for sure that it's the same bug, I was having a similar problem with Firefox 1.0, although it didn't show up as often as with Mozilla.

Anyhow, the problem disappeared after I installed Flashblock. You might want to give it a try.

I am still having occasional lockups with the Acrobat6 pdf plugin, though. :-(

Yeah right, let the monkey look after it.

FWIW, our company has all of the above (although not the monkey :) The data cluster is attached to a SAN with Terabyte volumes. It's been rock solid with no unscheduled downtime for over a year. It's flipped nodes a couple of times due to hardware problems but that's exactly what it's supposed to do. Jeez, it's even outperforming the *nix servers for data throughput (SAN).
