This man says he lives near downtown Seattle, how is he dealing with riding his Segway in the rain. They do get rain almost every day of the year (well not every day of course but still its very rainy there...)
Why would you think internet advertising isnt targeted? Discounting all the ads for Slashdot's sister companies, how many non-geek ads do you see here? Not very many. Yeah there are a few, but by and large people target internet ads just as carefully as they do for more traditional media.
Sites like Yahoo serve pretty much every demographic imaginable, so of course you're going to see ads that dont interest you, unless maybe you filled out all the personal info they want to collect. Its not like TV where you have time slots for different programming or radio where you have a genre.
On the contrary, the top40 is a load of crap these days. I was on a roadtrip last weekend and caught Casey Casem's top 40 on the radio. He proudly boasted that there were something like 14 solo female artists in the top 40 that week. Too bad they are all shit. Its all manufactured bubblegum pop. Mature my ass.
1) $10 for 2 hours of gaming in a nice comfy theatre? What a steal! That would get a LOT of people interested.
2) "The Sims"' primary demographic is "young males"???? Funny, though there are certainly many young males who enjoy The Sims, I find it is popular with everyone who DOESNT fit the young male stereotype (ie those who dont like FPS games, etc)
I spent 3 months using 160 Sun workstations to crack keys on RC5-64 only to quit when the stats became "temporarily unavailable" (which IIRC, was at least a couple months!!!!) and my enjoyment of seeing how I fared against the rest of the participants disappeared.
That was in early 1999, and I never returned.
I dont give my cycles away anymore, but if I were, itd be to something that would help advance science and have nothing to do with aliens or cryptography.
And you are surprised? The Register is notorious for being inaccurate and opinionated. They write stories that are 1/3 each facts, opinion, and rumor. Its like reading The NYT, slashdot and fuckedcompany all in one!
Ugh. Devil May Cry is probably one of the worst offenders of what we call the "movie" game that isnt really a game at all, but just a movie you sit through and controlling and doing YOUR thing is almost an afterthought.
I'm interested to know whats so bad about TiVO. Frankly the clock issue isnt very important. I rely on my cell company's towers to set my phone's time and it doesnt bite me, why should a tivo be any different? I'm assuming its synchronized via ntp or something similar.
I dont own a tivo but am considering it. How do you mean it cant function as a digital vcr while other PVRs can?
Upgrade it for Y2K? What were you running, 4.1.3? I'm pretty positive all the later versions had Y2k patches that you could freely download from Sun's site.
VITAMIN C?! You mean that chick from Eve's Plum? I think two other people might have actually listened to it. Maybe the rarity will give you some value.
This is not common knowledge, this is a content-free post because you are not backing up your estimates with any real data or research.

I'm sure he knows that, but why is it all the sudden a funny joke on slashdot?
Gladiator?
You bet he was!
You can download VICE, a great commodore 64 emulator for Linux. You can get the games from http://www.theoldcomputer.com

How are .ca and .ie being abused? I dont see dodgy warez/porn sites using those country codes.

This is not monopoly behavior. It's a simple business decision.
Bullshit. Its monopoly behavior because Microsoft was determined to be a monopoly.

So tell us how you really feel! :)
Two things:
1) $10 for 2 hours of gaming in a nice comfy theatre? What a steal! That would get a LOT of people interested.
2) "The Sims"' primary demographic is "young males"???? Funny, though there are certainly many young males who enjoy The Sims, I find it is popular with everyone who DOESNT fit the young male stereotype (ie those who dont like FPS games, etc)

*HAHAHAHA*
/. this year. :)
I'm surprised not enough people caught this to mod it up, its got to be one of the top 10 funniest things I've read on
siri
"BSDs are dead"?
:)
Was that a freudian slip?
siri
Sorry my friend, but your plea will likely have fallen on deaf ears. Most of the slashdot crowd are tinfoil-hat-wearing privacy zealots.
:)
Of course we should be careful about who knows what, but you are 110% correct, complaining about the enter/exit sensor at a store is idiocy.
siri
It cant come soon enough. Everyone's had enough time to upgrade their systems from that buggy inscure OS we call NT 4.
Gary,
:)
I still havent seen the movie and I havent read any of the books. Am I the only one?

Yuck. No wonder I dont own a console.

The only thing Microsoft could make that wouldnt suck would be a vacuum clearner. It would blow.
siri
Well, if you want to get technical, you did it with "hoard". Although that is a correct spelling of a word, you probably meant "horde". :)

That is one content-free post. Cha-ching!
