  2. Re:jvm on Weekly Microsoft Critical Security Issue · · Score: 1

The problem is that your normal user does not know nor cares what a JVM is and that different companies ie: Microsoft implement their own.

I bet my left testicle MS broke the JVM on purpose to make Java look bad, when in reality is their own implementation of the JVM that has the hole, not Java itself! But try explaining that to every other regular user & clueless managers who now will associate security holes with Java applets and Java. Microsoft knows this will happen.

    I agree with you.

Most of the bottlenecks in php+mysql+apache projects is really mysql. And 80% of the time is bad database design or sql programmer's fault.

One of the sites I develop and maintain gets about 13k-20k visitors per day and on peak times we get up to 200 requests /sec.

It's all PHP + MySQL. Mind you, We use Pear caching..but there were 4 queries that went into a 200k+ records table and were locking the tables and bringing down the whole site! took those 4 lines of code out ..and PHP+Apache was processing the requests like nothing.

You can't really do that, so what we need is concious drivers and a set of rules they must follow. In this case we need concious programmers and a set of rules they should be following to avoid the buffer overflows.
