I've a Civic Hybrid and you're partly right at least on my case. I've never cared about gas prices, this was a bet for future techologies. It was clear a hybrid car wasn't a solution, but there was this craze about gigantic SUV and the industry balance has to move to the other side. Now I refill my gas tank monthly.
Here in Mexico City had a lot of tax benefits for hybrid owners, these tax breakes will pay for the difference in 5 years. So it's a long term "investment". If car companies come with a better technology, I'll probably buy it in the near future.
Here in Mexico the banks started to increase the number of debit cards, less people with cash means less robery, but an increase in "fast kidnappings". Basically they kidnap anyone randomly using any vehicle, being a taxi the most usual and in 3-4 hours visiting banks they empty you bank accounts.
As a father of two small kids I've had interrupted sleep for years, it's not good and you don't feel better the next mornig. A full 6-8 hours sleep is perfecto to me.
The modern solution to actual cities is to promote commuting.. This kind of solution only promotes more traffic after some time, yes at first they seem to work, but you are only inducing traffic.
I understand most American cities are build to travel by car, but this will change... sometime.
Every time I travel to the US, return with a bunch little coins. I can't even trade then at the airport. You need a lot to get a dollar. Just round to the nearest dime.
When you travel to the US it's appalling the number of magazines you can find at news stands. Ranging from astronomy, tatooing, or chili aficionados. However the business model seems to make the important content very light but heavy in advertising. There are some good magazines though like Time, National Geographic, etc.. I'm subscribed to them and Cinefex, a magazine oriented to movie effects. For years this magazine didn't featured any kind of distracting graphics in its front page, just a frame of the featured movie, the magazine's name, price, issue number and date, nothing more.
In a nutshell, IMO you have both very good and bad magazines.
ICGAAD (I'm a computer graphics animator and director). I own a very small animation studio and right now I'm using as many computing resources as can get, this means using my small renderfarm, own pc, some friends' pcs and even a couple of Ubuntu One servers.
But in the case of big projects I cannot use the cloud, I cannot even tell my friends what projects I'm doing. Big clients require secrecy and very tight controls to avoid leak of any information. So maybe if you're working in your own pet project or small job, yes, the cloud may be a solution.
IMO it's because you're paying $1, and people tend to think the app doesn't have value. Just look at a starbuck' s coffee, it can cost 0.50 but they cost ten times that price, and people all over the world make soviet-style queues to get one.
IANALBIANP. I'm not a lawyer but am a novice producer. I've been in talks with lawyers about this exact point for movie production. As a layman it's hard to know when you're in a trademark infringement, that's why you hire expensive lawyers, so it's obvious WB have plenty but somehting went wrong. Mexican laws (my area of work) are more in tune with French copyright/trademark laws, but there's some intersection with US laws (specially if you want to export your movie), but the idea is that you have a screening with your team of lawyers and they mark what part of the movie may be in trademark problems, they only say: Do you have permission for that? The advice is that unless you have a product placement agreement, don't show product names, logos, etc.
The plaintiff states this is was done to avoid trademark diulution:
4. Warner Bros' use and misrepresentation of the Biophy Bag as an authentic Luis Vuitton bag in The Hangover: Part II create a likehood that the public willl be confused that Luis Vuitton is the source of, or has sponsored or approved of, the Biophy Bag and Warner Bros,' use of it as a Luis Vuitton in the film.
So yes, it seems the origin of the problem is that the bag wasn't original, and they didn't seek for a clearance from the trademark holder
"On the other hand, I’ve found most Wikipedia articles to be one-dimensional. For an encyclopedia that could be updated by anyone, it seems just one person creates the article from his viewpoint and nobody else bothers to add the different facets to the topic."
You're agreeing with parent. Articles are bidimensional because other facets are being deleted. I've started an article about shaders in Computer Graphics in general, then someone deleted the whole article to mention shaders in games only. Contributors don't always add,
The Pyramids of Giza, that's an earlier crowdsourced project...

Netflix exists here in Mexico, but their movie catalog is... old.

what on earth is in all the empty space anyway?
Electronic circuits? the kinect is not just a couple of cheap webcams tied together.

We mexicans face a similar thread right now. The "Dorinng initiative" is being discussed at the congress (lnk in Spanish):

There's always the option for an end-of-the-world party.
Yes, they are real but we have to learn to stay calm and don't panic.
The pandemic word is used to create terror. With two patients of the same desease in different continents you have a pandemic.

Most game engines are free nowadays, specially if you're a small studio or an academical institution.
My advice is to go for Unity.

"So no, they don't need clearance to use the brand in an unaltered and non-derogatory fashion."
From your quote:
"Disputes may arise if the two parties don't agree with how the trademark should be used."
Guess what just happened?
If you film a person or car among a large group, you're ok. But if you film a car/person in particular you may be in problems.
And how about rising $45 M with product placement?

It's a a trademarked item, they need clearance to use their image. It's the work of the producers to get this permission:

Airframe by Crichton, Snakes on a Plane: printed edition, Airport'77 paperback, :D.
A too small sample to come with any conclussion.
