Was recently considering leaving the CPU business altogether. I wonder if the groundswell of support that is slowly building around their 64-bit CPU has changed their minds? Of course, it appears that they have "bet the house" on the Hammer and barring any disasterous product launch or systemic defects they are positioned well. Damn, if only I had a couple of grand to gamble in the stock market.....
..they keeping making cycles like the YZF R-1 I'm happy. CD burners are a commodity item, I don't care about the brand name. Remember, they are the music & motorcycles company.
Man, am I glad I am going into intellectual property/patenet law. Going to make the dot-com bubble look like spare change. Of course, posting this message on Slashdot is going to cost me 33 cents in royalties to NCR. Back to the local BBS....
until they can ISPs on the liability hook for relaying spam from outside sources, I don't see the teeth. After all, ISPs have the geographic presence that connect with the end user or, in this case, receiver. Suing a spammer in Bulgaria or Korea is a waste of legal resources, as the net reult will be an unenforceable injunction.
If the Pentagon can spend $200B on the next generation jet fighter, surely the U.S. can spend and additional $20B over the next ten years doing the R&D and prototyping our next spaceplane. Oh wait, we have to build a missle shield first....
Unfortunately, the article references discounted stories about the U.S. attempt to militarize space. Why is the spin in the Arab world so demonizing of the U.S.? Oh, let me guess...the Israeli astronaut.
I think Apple has been concerned with their image as an anti-intellectual property, pro-hippie fruity computer company is hurting sales. I expect to see:

What the US needs is a Manhattan Project for alternative energy to oil. Solar, wind, geo, fusion, whatever. Something but burning simple chain hydrocarbons and because the waste product is mostly invisible, pretending it doesn't exist.
Sounds like a waste of time. Blogging with your phone will only result in mis-typed entries with poorly lit, poorly framed and blurry photos of famous landmarks that you can't quite make out and the result looks kind of like New Jersey or unrecognizable people who aren't particularly attractive or even remotely intersting even if drugs and/or alcohol were involved at 3:22AM when they were filmed on the way to yet another bar or club overcharging due to the lateness of the hour or the so called exclusivity of the place. Disable the devices. Unless it becomes state or federal law not to, maybe it is and I am unaware of the respective laws, than no info recorded, no info reported. If an accident can be construed as the other driver's fault, a black box that reported that you were driving 1 MPH over the posted limit at time of impact could negatively iompact any judgement or settlement.
Considering that the PS2 has been responsible for SONY staying in the black for the past couple of years, this is huge. Even more for Nintendo. Given that the average age of the game player is increasing, methinks that Nintendo better start creating content (love that phrase) for adults pretty soon.

Considering that 40 out of the 50 U.S. states are experience severe budget shortfalls, a good way to get more bang for the buck is to consider switching to open sourced software. You have:
1) Front-end savings on licensing.(perhaps offset by re-training costs) 2) Savings on future licensing 3) Less tech support headaches and consequently less staffing requirements.
As the article illustrates, spending 1.3% off a municipal budget vs. 3% (or 4%) is a substantial savings. Bring that up to the state level and you are talking tens to hundreds of millions.
No, not necessarily. You would have to comply with the full terms of the license agreement, whatever they may be. For example, the agreement may require you to remove the files after xx days or after x uses or pay a additonal fees. I believe the article mentions a 90-day trial to access the 2,000 songs.
We might be able to add this one to the list. It looks like this will (unfortunately) be vaporware and only live on through fan-created fiction... A shame 'cause it is truly a great franchise.
For me it is still M.U.L.E.
