That was my first thought, too: Arnold was one of the first civilian owners of the Humvee...and yet his administration is overseeing a suit against auto manufacturers for vehicles that produce smog. It doesn't compute.

Of course, I'm sure Arnold can't drive most of the hybrids that are currently available - I have trouble comfortably fitting in a lot of smaller cars for anything more than a short trip, and I'm much smaller than he is - he probably has to have an SUV or something just so he can ride in it comfortably. Still...even Chevy Suburbans and Ford Expeditions are more efficient than a Humvee.

  2. Re:Low-voltage wiring on How a Wiring Rack Should Look · · Score: 1

I just wired my (preexisting) house with Cat 5e ethernet cable, telephone, and TV cable. It wasn't that hard to do, though it did take some time, and having someone be able to get the fish tape and attach the wires to it helps a LOT (I had no help for most of it, and the project took two or three times as long as it should've - also, sometimes my cat would attack the cables as I was pulling them up to the attic, making it even harder).

(The phone wiring in the house was bad and only had two jacks, in inconvenient locations - there were more but they were all removed when the house was remodeled. The cable TV wiring was all cut when the house was remodeled - I found the remains in the attic. Since I was redoing the telephone anyway, I decided to put in ethernet and cable as well and have it look modern.)

Some pics of the results: http://rjmarq.org/house/wiring/

For your specific question, as others have said it might be a problem to go into an unfinished house to do that. There may be laws, and there may be things in your contract that deal with it. My brother did it for his guitar room in the house he had built, but I don't know how he got permission (or even if he did) to do it.

You would've thought he'd suggested shooting all children on sight and clubbing baby seals to boot. The flamewar was HUGE.

The rules for creating them are different (one system is overly sensitive about full words in the password, so if you have !sum3518daasdkj235 it'll reject it because the real word "sum" is in there). We all write them down - we have to, or we'd be on the phone with help desks all the time getting them reset. It's extremely frustrating.

This is true. Popular Science did an article where the author kept a diary of the risks he was encountering and would rate them, then they showed the diary to risk experts and got comments. What you said is exactly correct: people downplay the risks of, say, riding in a car, because they do it so often, while they worry a lot more about the risks of flying - despite the fact that flying is far safer than riding in a car.

Besides - what company is going to give you 2 or 3 extra days at each end of the trip so you can take a cruise instead of flying? My employer would also check the cost of the cruise versus the airline and you'd take whichever is more advantageous to them - almost certainly the airline.
