Why bother? Bit-rot is going to get it all anyway. Probably in our lifetimes.
Future archaeologists will doubtless be writing countless PhD theses (or their equivalent) on why we suddenly decided that the half-life of preserved information wasn't important anymore.
Spying jokes aside, if the NSA (and the greater intelligence community) had pushed for good security practices from the beginning instead of cultivating an environment that made their spying easier, we wouldn't have to worry about this. The US government needs to realize that it cannot have it's cake and eat it too.
When I see ideas like this, I have to work hard to remind myself that they're just the natural outgrowth of random stupidity, rather than part of some crypto-conspiratorial plan, probably involving the Illuminati and/or some sort of emergent tachycognitive post-human intelligence.
It's a "because we can" charge. Most huge ISPs have them. Their chief use seems to be letting them legally quote lower prices than they otherwise would be able to.
While geoengineering absolutely calls for a high standard of knowing what we're doing, equating it with global warming is like saying swords kill people so surgery is stupid.
Consuming as much as single packet of aspartame gives me a splitting headache. I tested pretty extensively (on myself) several years ago when I was in my mid-20s, and re-confirm my finding when I (rarely) inadvertently consume some. I was (and am) in pretty good health and physically fit, with no known relevant health issues. (Although similar quantities of thujone result in scintillating scotoma for me.)
A way to feel like you're doing the right thing, without any of the mental or physical challenges that come with actually attempting to change anything.
I remember watching Max Headroom as a kid, and this whole thing reminds me of it. I just can't put my finger on exactly why.
Oh well, time to go find it and rewatch.
You are a racist trying to oppress people. Not because of who disagrees with you, but because that is the obvious outcome of the policies you
support.
By living in a functioning, cooperative society, you are agreeing that other people get to tell you what to do. Don't like it? Go move to your sea-stead.
She's read The Moon is a Harsh Mistress. (Which most of the commenters apparently haven't.)
The bigger point she's bringing up (clumsily or not) is that the Moon is uniquely valuable real estate and we really ought to keep that in mind as we address its impending exploration, explotation, and colonization.
Tens of thousands of years from now, the young descendants of uplifted frogs will learn of the metaphor of the early 21st Century consumer.
Sooner or later, the American public is going to stop honoring their fake democracy. Then we'll be in for some real interesting times.

After the OS has captured the market.
I assure you, if Trump left office right now, just like Obama did four months ago, he would get nothing but praise from the left.
Also, BrickerBot seems more like a public service campaign every day.

They're going to try to get Lyft drivers, investigative reporters, and law enforcement to jump off tall buildings.

That they actually have a security breach rather than a "traitor".

I'm not sure we want to set the precedent that bombing a country because it's leaders are criminals is okay. Out of self-interest, if nothing else.

Yep. Saw the report and my first thought was "is this really a bad thing?" Better they end up as bricks than fueling a LOIC.
Anyone can see your credentials and log into your accounts? _Real_ _public_ internet. I like it! Very honest and forthright.

Uber isn't profitable and it has no plausible path to even getting close to being profitable.
Here in the US, that's just smart business practices. Heck, if he wasn't an immigrant, he would make a perfect president!
