Nobody ever even heard of people buying licenses for their books or music or movies
You're really, really wrong about that. For example, when you buy a DVD you do not have the right to play it, for example, to a large auditorium of paying customers. Radio stations and places open to the public (business like bars) have to acquire specific licenses that allow them to play music to their patrons. Hell, it's illegal to show an NFL football game from freely acquired television signals to a paying audience.
All you can really say is that there's a lot of ignorance going around about how intellectual property has worked in the US for a very long time.
The US Supreme Court stepped in and told the state of Florida how it could choose its electors, because it found that the way the Florida Supreme Court interpreted Florida Law regarding how votes were to be counted violated the EPC.
If I go to Disney world, can I not mention any other cartoon themed parks like six flags while there or if I do will I be silenced by the Disney World Censorship squad?
Analogy fail - communication on web sites is persistent. A better one would be, you can not erect signs about any other cartoon themed parks, which is entirely appropriate.
You're hallucinating. You didn't need Apple's approval to make or sell software for either the Apple ][ or the Mac. This is why there has always been a vibrant shareware community on the Mac.
"Why a duck?"
Christ on a stick, can't people even do a simple Google before making such easily checked wrong assertions? There are two stretches of Interstate highway in West Texas with a daytime 80 mph (130 km/h) speed limit for passenger vehicles.
No. They put a ban on selling financial stocks short.

Actually, 1 vote would have. As Jon Stewart said, "Bush got the minority vote - Clarence Thomas."
I can't believe that ?SN ERROR didn't make it.
As far as I can tell, what you're talking about is Australian law, yes?
...just bring up intellectual property rights and p2p "sharing"!
It ain't so simple. Ever heard of Bush v. Gore (and the Equal Protection Clause)?
The US Supreme Court stepped in and told the state of Florida how it could choose its electors, because it found that the way the Florida Supreme Court interpreted Florida Law regarding how votes were to be counted violated the EPC.
I hear George Lucas will be making the prequels!
That's because there are not enough educators focused on the very important velociraptor problems.
Actually, it's slow because of all of those people always rushing (and reloading) to make First Posts.

"And in the darkness bind them..."
Tell management that all employees must get extra ice in their beverages at lunch and bring it back to go into a bucket in the machine room.
'Cause that's the absurd level of penny-pinching you're looking at here.
Are you kidding? On Slashdot people get modded up more often than not for these kind of inflammatory lies.

Do I know? Would I care? Would anybody worth taking seriously in any way care enough to string paragraphs together about it?
And thus, it's still entertainment.
I do too. You trap, you spray, and still those Anonymous Cowards keep coming back.
No, no. They named it after the rope bondage Diva. Sounds appropriate to me.
Or Ann Richards!
The Alamo Drafthouse is reason #576 that Austin kicks ass.
Heh. This is why all the vegans I know detest PETA.
The way to protect children is to world-proof them, not by trying to child-proof the world.
