Everytime there's an OS upgrade your peripherals often don't work until the drivers etc are upgraded as well. What's so damn sinister about that?!

I had to do a doubletake there for a minute. Wow, don't see too many hippies around here:-) Of course, many hippies were actually spoiled kids in high school so, I can see where you may not relate to kids these days coming from that era. I'm quite a bit older myself but my good memory has allowed me to remember all the evil I had to deal with in HS. I went to a small FFA style HS back in the 80's and what with me being a nerd/hippie/cybergoth I stood out like a 'sore thumb'. I actually had someone believing I was a vampire, LOL! Okay, so I occasionally wore a cloak around but hey, it kept the rain and snow off!
...I also feel like a Historian looking back on the event with cold analysis of events. I'm sure if I was closely involved I'd be a little less 'cold' about it. I feel sympathy for the killers because I know what it's like to go to public school and the suburban schools were the worst. City school was the best for me, I blended in easier with so many people being 'different'. I've been in plenty of aggravated fights and left my mark (sometimes literally) on the provokers but that didn't in any way alleviate what you feel inside. OTOH, I think that if someone I knew was killed or injured I'd probably be in a rage. That's a big 'if game' and I don't play that game. I'm relatively happy w/ my life since then and I do have many fond memories of that time though few had to do w/HS. Ironically, I found that many teachers were on my side and one even pointed out to me that they, students, were actually afraid of me even though I wasn't physically intimidating. Once I knew that, it made things a little easier on me and doubly ironic, I made more friends that final year. Too bad I wasn't let on to this til late in my Junior year.
VoiceMail98 When we moved into our new apartment last year we decided to get Voicemail98 because of the good deal and we were notorious for tying up the phone line whilst on the internet. Now, we thought all was fine til we got the bill. There were dozens of long distance calls to two numbers we never heard of. Turns out when you call your preassigned voicemail number you're rerouted to another number which is a long distance phone call. So, everytime someone left a voice message we were charged a long distance call and everytime we checked our voicemail we incurred long distance charges. WHAT A SCAM!! We ended that quickly and got a refund of all costs after an irate clerk found out what her company was trying to pull and handled it for us.
...is what you're talking about I believe. It starred Tom Hanks. yeah, it was a pretty lousy film. Then again, it was 'made for tv' which is never a good sign.
..how about the serbians and the wars they've waged on the Croats (state atheists), Bosnians (primarily Muslim) and Albanians (also primarily Muslim I've read). The land thing is a redherring, their concerned that the major land occupiers who aren't Serbian will Lord over the minority Serbians. Not that they ever did but.... I know it's a bit more complicated than that however you can groups some of the other reasons unde this umbrella of using religion as an excuse. You can't really call it racial because the Croats and most of the Bosnians are the same even if the dialect or religion is different. Speaking of religion, how about all the Muslim terrorists in N.Africa and parts of the asian pacific? Or the problems in N. Ireland where it's the Protestants versus catholics? these all have religious differences at the root of the conflicts. I'm sure people can come up with many more instances if they think about it.
Just heard on the news this morning that 'The Basketball Diaries' or whatever it's called is too blame according to investigators. Never mind that they may not have ever seen it, but it's too blame. Never mind that they probably saw John Wayne shooting 'the nips' but they didn't go out invading Japan. Never mind that they probably saw Batman & Robin but they didn't go out and, uh, whatever, I'll pass on that one. Okay, never mind that they probably saw Matrix and uh, no, Rambo, geez, well uh, hmmmm... Well I saw all those movies and I didn't go wacko but then again, I didn't have access to guns.
Years ago when I was in high school we just kicked each other in the face and stuff.:-) Some of theose trouble makers were obsessed with guns, uhm, including me. Gee, yah think maybe this is just what you get when you set someone to the breaking point.
I remember Jeffrey Dahmer and how they discovered that his parents were and stuff were very anti-gay and being in such a negative environemt took it's toll on him and he flipped. Myabe some people are simply more prone to this and given the right sequence of events this is the result. Nothing can be done about that but people being what they are want to point to something to blame. For all we really understand of reality it could be some non-locality thing were some butterfly somewhere knocks over a ladybug and all the resulting anger the ladybug feels gets amplified in some kids head.
... I admit it. I take it back. I was under the impression that anyone with a debian.org after their name was a debian employee. That should now read: "No thanks to certain debian affiliates!" or how about: "No thanks to certain people named Crow and others with debian.org in their email address who like to spam Apple's public source mail list" :-)
Hi, It's difficult to say from work where I don't have the archive but from memory I'd say two separate addresses. The only name I recall is Crowley. I suppose it's statistically possible that all the nasty email was from him alone but being the most 'visible' debian rep there it makes for a very bad image of debian. Before this, I didn't have an opinion of debian now my opinion is negative. What kind of mean-spirited wackos are they fostering over there?! They came on and just insulted people and organisations. What was the point of that? That wasn't helpful in the least and I'm sure they made plenty of enemies. I wasn't even the butt of one of their rants but I feel for the people who were unnecessarily flamed.
...can you come back to the public source list and behave yourself?:-> No more kneejerk oubursts about other people who aren't even on the list (coughESRcough) okay:-) Oh, and don't bring that Crowley guy this time...
>Next time you bad-mouth ppl, make sure you understand exectly what's going on, who is involved, who >said what, when and where
You ought to have been on the Apple's Public-Source Mail List so you can get a clue I guess. Anyone with debian.org in their email tended to be rash insulting foul-mouthed jerks. They ripped on people for their beliefs, insulted people by calling them names such as moron, made vague generalities that such-and-such 'sucked' and never backed up any claims except to say that if you disagreed with them, they called you names again. YOU CALL THAT PRODUCTIVE!?! Not one of them made a _single_ helpful suggestion. NOT ONE! I've got every digest from 2 archived so I probably would have noticed.
to hell with them. this was done thru suggestions by Mac developers, ESR, Bruce Perens possibly and unnamed others. debian contributed nothing but foul mouthed pests who spammed Apple's mail lists and annoyed the other users.
everytime I'm negative about something like this the results are good. everytime I begin to feel like Apple really needs to shape up and I get a bad attitude they go and renew my hope. yes folks, this one only took a few hours to get results. I've been singlehandidly saving Apple with my 'bad attitude'tm since 1996:->
they tried to go Opensource with Darwin but got firmly trounced. don't expect then to opensource anything else anytime soon. looks like Darwin may die too judging by the sudden lack of effort by Apple to do anything more or even comment on it.
