Actually my meaning was President Hillary Clinton, President John Kerry, etc. I probbaly just phrased it a little vaguely. My point being that none of us know who will be president in the future. And as for their inclination to make use of power....I'm cynical enough to think that if it's there, it will be used.
And not just for those people who dislike the current administartion. As has been said before, even if you approve of Bush, how will you like President (Clinton, Kerry, Gore, etc) having this same technology at their disposal. It is dangerous for any government to be able to monitor its citizens this thoroughly, no matter what the original intent might be.
Get ready to be outraged. The Attorney General told congress this week that the president does have the right to order warrantless taps on calls made completely in the U.S.
The locals are so worried about this. Just like, in the days of sailing ships, the villagers who put up fake lights were very worried that some ship might run aground on the rocks. I say we see who in this village is hacking the GPS. First place to look...the suspiciously wellstocked local secondhand store.
"So? I'm not saying you can be religious and scientific about the same things at the same time. Just that it's possible to believe in God and also be a good scientist. It's not that hard to realize that belief in God is non-falsifiable and therefore non-scientific and yet espouse the believe anyway."
I might be going into nitpicking mode here (I hope not) but I think there is a distinction between having a belief in God, and in being a "devout" follower of a religion. To me, the first is a broad philosophical idea, and not contradictory to being rational and scientific. But the second is more problematical, to me. Devoutly following any certain religion means accepting that religion's claims on all sorts of matters. Certainly there are many intelligent people who are devout followers of (insert religion) but it kind of seems like that is at a certain personal cost...the turning off of rational, logical thought on that part of their life. It is an almost schizo type thing, to me. This is not meant as a flame...I have friends who are religious...I don't consider myself 'better' than them, and in particular I have very positive opinions of every Mormon I have met (which isn't many, but still.)
And yet you not only opened the story, you are posting in it. So you are either : A. Seriously outraged at Slashdot's attempts at humor. OR 2. Really , REALLY disappointed when you found out the My Little Pony game was fake.
Actually what happened is that someone asked Jeeves about goatse.cx and Jeeves is now in extensive psychotherapy. Doctors assure us he should regain use of his eyes sometime next year.
Not to be nitpicky , but saying God placed cherubim there does not mean the same as God created cherubim to put there. I can place my keyboard on a different table, but I didn't create it for that purpose.
Starflight was the first game I played obsessively. I remember many late night sessions, going to do just one more planet before bed. And the copy protection wheel was practically a game in itself:)
And not too local for me, in the U.S. The closest sources for my 'local' news are from papers and TV stations about 200 miles away. Hopefully that will change though...I'm fairly certain that there are papers closer than that:)
I understand what you're saying...i have a kid myslf and the first instinct is to try to protect him. But this wouldn't do that, since the rest of the world will be able to go along just as they already are. It's a false sense of security, and that is more dangerous in the long run. The best way to protect them is to just keep aware of what they do...be involved, which it sounds like you are. And quietly go gray:)

I wish I had some points to mod you up. Coincidently I turned on the tv a couple days ago and that was the very scene that was on:)

Imagine a Beowulf cluster of....on second thought, I've seen one: the last time I flipped on the kitchen light in my old apartment.

Let me make formal introductions...Rodness, humor. Humor, Rodness.
Or, in the immortal words of Foghorn Leghorn "It's a joke son, get it?"

Which is it...inquiring minds want to know???
Tens of thousands of geeks have been found in what appear to be diabetic comas. Doctors are baffled.
I have been assimilated.
Great, thanks...my vision was just starting to come back after the pink onslaught. Now where's that visine?

Ah, but you have to embrace the zeitgeist of the synergistic postmodern...errr...nope, I'm lost too.

Or just play Battlefield 2 and do both:)

...don't give the U.S. government any ideas. Not that they seem to feel like they need congressional approval now, for that matter.
Just wait until the first astronaut turns into a Protector. Now that's an aging problem.

In what army?
Wow, what a coincidence...I studied you in school! Small world, eh?

Your ideas are intriguing and I wish to subscribe to your newsletter.
Didn't we just go over that concept on /.? But I'm sure THIS time the preview is totally accurate :)
