Wait, I don't get the vegan reference. Yeah, most vegans would eat meat instead of die of starvation(Where in the world does that happen currently ?!?!?!). But there's no conflict, if you eat meat you didn't score a victory of an animal anywhere, even if you went hunting, there's no conflict, no victory. Conflict has risk, hunting does not(I've been hunting for over 10 years, by the way).

It really sounds like a cheap way to make a stike at veganism, which is about animals suffering, and has nothing to do with conflict. In fact, veganism brings in conflict, small minded people who just don't get it, challenging the way people have been thinking for a long time(meat == healthy and you need it for protein, the first mostly false, the second completely false).

And pure veganism is unworkable, so is pacificism, but does that mean the opposite is true? Not at all. Being purely conflict based would really damage you, if everything had to be a conflict, "Are you going to eat?" "NEVER AGAIN NOW! MWA-HA-HA!" you'd say. How does that work? Pure anything doesn't work, ever. You're just taking an extreme, making it extreme to the point it can't work, and going from there.

But yeah, in this day and age, you can get really close to pure veganism, when was the last time it was eat or die for you? Last week? Last year? Ever? It's way over a week before you die.

Because you could be causing harm. It's easy to snoop once you're on the network. Of course, if it's unprotected, you either don't care or don't know.

To get away from the lawn idea, let's talk about cars. If I leave my car unlocked, not a good practice but something easy to do and to not think about, does that mean anyone can come in and sit? It'd be quite disheartening. Most people think their car is secure and often has data about them (papers, receipts, etc). But you could forget to lock it, for any number of reasons. That doesn't mean that the world has access. The same goes for your briefcase, is it locked? No? I'm gonna rifle through it for awhile then.

Of course, wifi does broadcast, but that's a bad analogy. It doesn't get in the way of other people, unlike physical property(car blocking the lane, etc..). In fact, no one is complaining about cell signals, which are broadcast like wifi. Does this mean that, because it is jutting out and striking me, so to speak, that I should be privy to your conversation(after all, your voice on this side isn't encrypted at all).

But it's a hard debate, and I don't think anything will sum up the debate very well. But I do believe you should stay on your own property, be the door locked or unlocked, the door closed or open, unless someone explicity says it's ok.

But of course, it's becoming redundant. Starbucks has Wifi for a nominal fee, kinkos is the same network, cell phones are getting net service via bluetooth, so even out where there's no wifi, let alone an unprotected one, you can still get internet if you have the right phone and the know-how.

Mind you, I probably wouldn't mind hopping onto someone's network to check my email or anything, but I'm not going to try and defend it as "they invited me in!"

    Lasers? Not necessairily.
    Space Travel? Could be.

There's no common elements, there can be, and normally are, but not many. And people are more defined in the Star Trek/Star Wars/Stargate worlds, "generic" scifi could be anything, and by generic I mean common elements, it'll be a custom, new world.

It has to be familiar, or you've lost a good portion of players already, and scifi just doesn't have much of that. Star Wars? I'll pass, it's mildly interesting(am I the only slashdotter who doesn't care much at all for the whole star wars story, even the first 3 were bleh). I like Star Trek, and look forward to the game, but I doubt it'll hold my interest, it's always been about the story, and the game looks more about the consoles/technology. Stargate? Well, it's getting an MMO too, but, um, er, I'll pass. I really enjoy Atlantis(not the second season, third is good so far) but as a game? maybe, as an MMO? How about not?

I can tell you what I like, Fading Suns, but it's an RPG, not a comp game(although I think they had a few). Broken down, "wow-you-can-travel-through-space-even-if-just-bar ely-wowza" kinda stuff, everything is run down, low-tech trying to keep hi-tech going. That's my kind of SciFi.

But fantasy is accessible to all, easy to understand, and pretty well defined. Just try releasing a fantasy game without magic, enchanted items, sure, but no magic. It won't work either.

You have to consider the effects of studies not done on vegetarians, but done on red meat studies that don't mention or include vegetarians, the benefits are there.

Everyone wants to look good, but do you want the species to look good, and be incredibly lazy, eventually to the point of not even bothering to breed anymore.

Fat is good b/c of the body's resistance to starvation, obesity is good b/c it helps "thin the herd" so to speak(although, in practice, not really, because the US would be 1/4 the population in about 200 years, heh).

Of course, everything these days is viewed in the light of making a person look better and better, rather than being healthier and healthier. There is a cure to obesity. Burn off more calories than you take in. Type 2 diabetes can be prevented by simple exercise and watching what you eat.

We're finding out the same thing for alzheimer's, it's about what you eat during the course of your life, and how active you keep your brain(exercising it, effectively). There's a reason vegetarian's are 90% less likely to develop any type of cancer than non-vegetarians.

Anything can be genetically predisposed, but that's not an excuse, it's something you have to watch out for. Someone once told me, "I'm obese, it's glandular, and totally my fault" because, no matter how predisposed you are, there's a simple formular, burn off more than you eat and you will lose weight(that person has lost 80lbs so far, take that glandular!)
