I can tell it's truly News for Nerds because I can barely understand what it's saying and it drops causal references to advanced mathematics--the stuff I only wish I'd had the fortitude to study in college.
Okay. Now you've confused me. Do you mean it drops causal references to advanced mathematics, in which case this article would have a direct impact on the advance of advanced mathematics itself, or did you mean to say it drops casual references to advanced mathematics, in which case it is assumed that the advance of advanced mathematics is something most people should understand? What?
I'm sorry, but are the owners of those domains actuall Lybians? If not, then I don't think you have any right to whatever domain name you'd want or like.
And the Lybian registrar has all the rights to take your domain name for actual Lybians.
There are no stupid questions. Only stupid people.
Seriously though, statistical analysis also depends on how the questions are asked, and if your sample size is big and diverse enough. Just quoting percentages is generally useless.
We're talking about Z-series mainframes. These are absolute beasts, with all the cooling, memory and processing speed that would leave a desktop in the dust without any problems whatsoever.
However putting this sort of hardware in a desktop is extremely prohibitive for a ton of reasons, one of the most important being cooling. You'd need a room just for that...
I think one of the main reasons why there's so little 'improvement' in these things, is that they're very wary of using newer (and possibly less robust, less reliable) technology.
Similar to the fact that NASA is still using CPUs from 20 years ago, since they all have a proven track record, are resilient under stress, less prone to external influences, etc.
However I do think that newer technology used in parallel with the current existing hardware would in the end give us proof whether it's as reliable, more reliable, as useful, more useful, etc.
Durability, stress conditions, hostile external conditions and all those play a large role. The more complex systems become, the more unreliable generally as well. In this case, I'd go for KISS instead of newfangled stuff.
I think you're misunderstanding the statement being made.
They weren't talking about a monetary value of the whiskey production vs the GDP.
They were talking about it fueling the economy. Consider the fact whiskey fuels the average Scots(wo)man, who in turn fuel the economy, and you'll see where the statement comes from!
Actually. Fixing pinball machines in itself isn't all that expensive. Some of the more exotic parts might set you back a bit if you don't have your own metal shop, but mostly it's just very time intensive.
Now fiddly bits like the lights you have to change, for which you have to basically take half the machine apart are horrible. The later designs thankfully are a bit more maintenance aware in that you only have to take about a quarter of the machine apart:)
Where the real cost comes in is if you want to restore it to 'original', so with original flippers, bands, artwork, etc. *that's* when it gets expensive.
Just maintaining a working machine to play on, not so much.
Apart from the fact that this whole thing is ethnically ill-conceived
I'm fairly certain you meant to say 'ethically' instead of 'ethnically', since as far as I'm aware, these pictures are all in grey scales, so that already removes one ethnical thing;)
And quite honestly, the really scary thing is that Transocean is known in the business as one of the most safety conscious contractors with a very good record on safety and enforcement of it.
So if this can happen to them, that makes me kind of wonder how bad the rest is..

And we all know what a group of bankers is called right?
I know several people with varying degrees of OCD, and this all sounds very familiar. (For one of them, it was obvious when she'd had an episode, because the guildbank would be all sorted by type, name, colour, whatever struck her as being wrong at the time:)
For me however, it's something that even people without OCD might recognize.
When my computer would be in my bedroom, I'd normally switch it to standby when I went to sleep (since it made quite a bit of noise). However during mosquito season, when there was a mosquito on the loose in my bedroom, things were different.
I absolutely cannot stand the sound of a mosquito, drives me totally insane (to do with the fact as a kid I used to be very allergic to them, think whole arm swollen because of one bite), so then I'd take my computer out of standby to have that as background noise, which would drown out the buzzing of the mosquito.
So yeah, it does depend a lot on what sort of background sounds we're talking about (computer noise vs sleep, or mosquito noise vs going insane or mosquito noise vs computer noise).
Problem you'll have here with 'reviews', is that this game isn't actually on the market yet. The only time when people have seen it, and some people have played it, has been at the Eve Fanfest this last weekend.
So all impressions and review points come from CCP's own presentations and the battles shown during the fanfest.
It's a damn shame that to make this thing street legal, you actually have to crash a bunch of them.
And building like 10 of them, is going to be a real issue.

Uhm. I think I've confused myself even more now.
Waaaaah!

This reminds me a lot of an advertisement in the Solo of Fortune magazine released for the Cyberpunk pen & paper RPG.
"Russian cyberleg not pretty, but no matter when kick hole in tank, yes?"
http://www.pen-paper.net/rpgdb.php?op=showbook&bookid=1106 This one. Very funny read.
DHS actually stands for Department of Heimat Sicherheit. But that's a rather closely guarded secret..
As our god Southpark already claimed:

Nope. Worms carry Banana Bombs. (Shameless plug for the new Worms Reloaded ;)
Uhm...

But even then, 50 years is quite a lot :)

Similar to Guiness fueling the Irish economy.

Followed by AAAARGH! flipflipflipflipflip CRAP.
And with 2 balls left out of 10 :)
The bar I worked at had The Addams Family pinball machine for about a year.
Very good memories there :) "Thing! Lend a hand!"
I'm glad there are still some of these weird people around that actually like a game of pinball! Way to go!

And rendering your modem inoperational the moment they change their bandwidth (frequency) parameters.
As we all know, 6 months of programming in Windows makes you want to jump out of one (YMMV)

We have a flock of geese, a herd of horses, etc.
And then there's a wunch of bankers.
It's quite obviously an edit made by the reviewer who originally wrote "MY LIFE SUCKS", and then forgot to actually change the word-count as well.
You'll see a lot of these things even in official documents, and sometimes it's quite hilarious :)
Funnilly enough, I'm quite curious as to how many of the 'old guard', say 5-digit and lower, are actually still active.
And yes. I realize I'm one of them, so this might just have a self-serving sort of purpose ;)

What's wrong with this picture is that it isn't on youtube. I thought all these sort of things always ended up on youtube.
And then again, always better than being banned from Faecesbook for taking a dump in an elevator.
The 5 weeks are your vacation time, basically. That does not include holidays (national/bank/religious).
In the Netherlands you get between 24 and 27 days generally, and then newyears, 2nd easter day, 2nd whatever-religious-day, christmas, etc.
I think last year I had a total of 34 days off (of which 27 were the 'official' vacation days)
