Well, all I can say is that sometimes ideology carries a price tag.. and in your case a quite literal one.
Bear in mind that this is a brand new system with LOTS of improvements that aren't in the current line..not just CPU (which I might add is a 1.6Ghz - 64 bit chip - better than most things on the market even from intel and AMD.. but thats another debate)
$2000 doesn't seem all that unreasonable for a mac that can compete with the big players in the market considering its market size.

Well if you're a gamer and price is an issue for you then wouldn't you be better off buying a PC? I never really considered the mac as a hardcore gamers machine.. not that it doesn't have the power for it... but there are other practical issues which makes a PC a better choice for *hardcore gamers* IMHO.
Personally speaking, I rarely use my mac for games.. it was actually much more practical for me to build a PC for that...
Do you think the new "G5"s will sport new enclosures too..?
The current design is long in the tooth to say the least and is highly associated with the G4 processor... yet I've heard nothing about new enclosures at all..
If you'll recall, later in the series the "red dust" didn't work as well in tropical and temperate zones leaving it only "effective" in the colder polar regions...
So I doubt the red dust issue will even be a factor.
ACTUALLY.. According to an animator friend of mine. a 3D StudioMax sales rep told him that that unofficially *encourage* piracy of their product to individual users simply from the standpoint that when those users enter the marketplace or change jobs it is their product they are using and subsequently it will be their product the company they work for uses... and according to said rep, companies are where they make the vast majority of their money..
granted this argument has been heard before, but I figured that it would add a little credibility to the argument coming from the company itself.
Personally I hope they do go metereed bandwidth.. because them myself and 99.99% of the net users out there will likely see their bill drop...
that is unless of course they do the all too obvious thing and charge you flat fee with per gig charges after a set limit.. kinda like cell phone minutes... in which case I'd be against it...
Full EFT for all transactions is almost here, but I think people still need a measure of security in being attached to their wealth.
Control of ones wealth has been moved steadily out of the owners hands for years. Going from the gold standard to paper money was one step. A piece of paper showing your wealth, but in essence just a piece of paper... Now it's just numbers on a screen.. full EFT essentially cuts you off from financial anonymity.
I like EFT, but there should always be alternatives for those who are concerned with privacy issues.
or perhaps the truth, like life, has more than one meaning.. and what you consider closed minded and narrow is merely a different perspective on truth...
Perspectives on truth serve very different but equally important purposes.
Take politics for example... (yes yes I know)
it has always been my view that a "liberal" was a person who tried to protect the values of the country.
where as the "conservatives" IMHO have always striven to protect the assests of the country.
Two very different ways of viewing what "serving your country" means but to sacrifice one means losing the whole. i.e. if you become too idealistic you become impractical and loose your assets. Conversely if you sacrifice ideals to save assets you lose your defining aspects and you become something different... but I digress.
The word "christian" in the title of a true journalisitic product may actually be a hidden "blessing"...
The name provides constant reminder to follow the straight and narrow path of journalism, simply from the standpoint that from the very name, one *expects* it NOT to be real journalism.
Much of my computer equipment is bought from online companies in California... a tax on computer equipment would probably be enough to drive people who purchase in bulk elsewhere..
Hell if the same item costs less somewhere else..thats where I'll go...
It used to be that content had to be good enough to entice the viewer, listener, etc. to watch, listen to, read etc. the ads... The ads were there *because* the people were there.
Now advertisers think they are buying *you* instead of the space, thus the idea that ignoring ads is "stealing" in their eyes.
The paradign shift is that they have removed the burden of gaining attention from a viewer to being "owed" attention from a viewer, thereby placing the burden on you...
