that doesnt stop me from using that nice shiny cd player hifi sepearte with digitial out and a nice fiber "cable" to my nice digigtal in on my nice sound card does it. If anything people that cant rip it will be less likely to buy it and more likely to download it. I personaly see cds like that as a challange;-)
IF dvds were software then that would make playing them under linux even harder since (presumably) the software would only be win32 binaries. As it stands a dvd is just a video stream, and hence can be played under linux with the appropriate playback tools.
IMHO its just another excuse by the allready fat and rich movie companies to make yet more money.
"We do identify the string from the browser, and the only issue that we have is that the Opera browser doesn't support the latest XHTML standard," said Visse. "So we do suggest to those users that they go download a browser that does support the latest standards."
HMM it strikes me as kinda ironic:
d) ive just found a bug in mozilla i thing so off to bugzilla;-)
c) micrsoft says "latest technology" micorsoft means "somthing we just made up randomly to make everything else not work with our monoploising software"
b) X in a standard (EG XHTML) (normaly) stnads for eXtension so is optional and you _SHOULD_ (read html specs for defintion of should) be able to work without it so thats probably not complying with standards
a) Microsoft are well know for their strict adherense to standards
im beggining to dobut whether or not microsoft has ever released a "really good" product since basic... DOS was a poor rip off of a popular os, Windows is a rip off of two os's IMOH XP should be a patch/bug fix for what ever the last thingy they released was not some absured £300 per component peice of spyware that looks like it was designed by the great people at fisher price (kids toy)
I give it 10 days or so until any proposed backdoor is cracked...
I live in the UK, where we have no DMCA (yet) (w00t!!!) and i am prepared to spend quite a lot of time reverse enginering and backdoors, just for fun.
Also if stupid encryption laws come into force send LOADS of random data around randomly to waste fed cpu time;-) theres nothing illegal in random data (YET)
We could as i see it end up in a very bizarre situation similar to the one which means every brwoser reports itself as "Mozilla" now except with a certified os replaing Mozilla
When im rich (fat chance, and im not too sure i want to be, but thats a different matter) Im gonna move to an island and setup my own constitution there i think... Then i might finaly be able to watch my dvd's under linux
what you all seem to fail to notice is the many thousands of spin offs from id engines we have seen along the way, with half-life, voyager and sin being the more recent and memorable ones... none of these games would have been nearly so good or even existed with out id throwing out plot free games
as far as I was aware no company memos to distirbutors/resellers would ever be like this. it strikes me as a little bit suspicious but never mind
