EE and CE nowadays are dominated by H1Bs because it's cheap, and design mantra in any electronic is to produce it as cheap as possible to increase profitability. It's very hard to make money on electrical hardware nowadays.
The only engineering field who's salaries are somewhat protected from H1Bs is in civil engineering (transportation to structural and environmental), because you need a license to practice.
Designing a road, waste water treatment plant, skyscraper, requires a registered license. That license holds the same degree a medical practice license does, and so does the pay. Whereas in electrical, anybody can design a circuit board, that's why you see cheap engineers.
Grant it, the civil engineering industry has been hit hard and investing in infrastructure is the same as flushing your money down the toilet, but we still need roads, build/renovate buildings, etc. You can design the next super computer or advance electronics to power a future space station, but you need a building to design that, you need a road to get you to that building, etc.
Rumor has it that there was very little money left, if at all, to work on this and the only money there was available was for marketing and licensing and porting. So, I'm not surprised that Gearbox didn't put a lot of hours into it other than porting the game and menu building.
It looks like they used Doom 3 engine, so not surprised it was easily ported to the PS3 and Xbox 360 and thus you have crappy graphics on the PC.
Did you know that SunnyD, that fake orange juice you see white kids get excited about instead of the 'purple stuff' when they open the fridge, contains benzene???
There was a story YEARS ago that a sunnyD plant leaked tons of benzene and killed the local water supply. Here's an article on the suit filed against them to change their formula...
That's not always true. There are a ton of good doctors and dentists out there. Just a handful of some that are really bad and do deserve to have their licenses removed.
It is the bad patients and lawyers. It is the patients that go to webMD and think they have a certain ailment and then the doctor runs tests and tells them it's something else, then the patient sues. Patients over exagerate problems and concerns.
What's the point of practicing if you are going to get sued because of some idiot who read something on the internet???
That's why dentists and doctors have such papers, even release papers.
You can still sue for malpractice even if you signed something before the operation and the doctor did screw up.
I hope Brevard County schools still close early for the anticipated traffic that would engulf the region because of the, now delayed, launch. It's a Friday! Let my brothers go home early.
Schools that just haven't required Algebra 2 are the working-class providers of America. Schools that do require it already seem to be producing students that do succeed better in college and beyond.
I took Algebra 2 in 10th grade and then Precalculus in 11th grade, and then Calculus in 12th grade. I went on to college and graduated with a degree in civil engineering. I have a friend who took Algebra 2 in 12th grade. He went to Devry and.... well, let's just say he wished he worked harder back in high school.
I think at the very least, pre-calculus should be required by the 12th grade.
Weren't we all 'against' this version of FCC's net neutrality??? It wasn't exactly what most people wanted, and it only passed because it appeased to cable lobbyists (ie. ATT, Level 3, etc.).
What I don't get here is that a lot are praising the net neutrality and are against Verizon, but if you read through that earlier slashdot post, a lot of people were against this version of Net Neutrality because it really didn't give that freedom we wanted, not all of it, and nowhere near it..... I wonder what changed since the rules by FCC have not changed...
Just thought I'd point out this old slashdot article out..
I have a friend who spent about a year and a half living at home and had good parents that understood his passion for games, develop his skill in level design.
He made mods for UT2k3 and UT2k4. Around 2006 he got a real paying job at an indie studio that is mildly successful. He's now making around 50k a year. Grant it, he works like a dog, but he loves it from what I can tell. Sometimes I envy him, because I took a different career path - a Civil Engineering degree due to job security and normal hours, but oh well.
My point is that as long as you have the passion, motivation, and dedication, you can get into the game industry or any career you want. Sure, sometimes you have to do things to survive in the world or take the formal route (ie college), but stick to your dreams and eventually you'll get a chance to live it.
What I don't is why don't publishers sell the digital-copy version of their games for a much cheaper price compared to the copy on a physical media?
That would make it an incentive for most games to buy it online and not have the option of reselling the game down the road.
Steam is a good example of this, but applying it to console game networks (Wii Channel, PSN, Xbox Live) can effectively hamper Gamestop's profit margins.
By wikileaks saying that they are 'combing through' to help save lives is idiotic. Exposing any secrets results in some form of damage - direct or indirect. The fact that they say that is amateur, to make people think it's ok what they are doing and for the greater good. That's what my post is trying to say. Could care less what they post. The end result is not always for the best - that depends on who it affects - either our soldiers on the ground or the commanders. Putting up more documents creates a big risk, that's all.
They are already risking the lives of our soldiers by simply posting their tactics and secrets.
"combing through" the documents to 'save lives' is bullshit and they know it. They just want to post the dirtiest, effective secrets that can have maximum damage.... which will in turn hurt our soldiers.
The story doesn't tell you that she was also on the contract, not just him. So, when she canceled it, she canceled it before the contract expired, so she has to pay the early termination fee, duh.....
Plastic degrades over time, especially in a smoker's environment.... As the plastic expands and contracts as it heats up and cools down, respectively, won't that mess up the polymer chain and make it loose its effectiveness??
Since biological processes (and I mean all of them from the molecule level to the baby-making level) depend on temperature, it is obvious that knowing how water works at this molecular level can in fact solve many variability in medicine.
If you think about it... our body maintains itself at a constant temperature as much as possible... there's a reason for that... for the biological processes within the body to react efficiently.
This can lead to different types of medicines that are most effective at certain temperatures.
I have just repaired TWO computers with this rootkit infection. Both are XP Pro machines made by DELL.
What I did was simply do a repair installation onto the OS. This requires the XP Pro CD OEM (the kind where you can boot into recovery console).
I did the automatic repair install. Got into the desktop and managed to install Malware Bytes onto both machines. I also updated Malwarebytes. Then I did a full scan of the PC, and eventually the program managed to find numerous infected files on the PC. They all had the same trojan: Vundo, among other ones.
After removal, both PCs functioned normally and was able to run a full batch of Windows XP updates, including SP3.
Have you guys even read the bill? The fact that my comment went down into a troll really shows the ignorance of this place.
There are a lot of independent radio stations out there that are not ClearChannel stations. This will in fact benefit ClearChannel as there are more of them. A lot of the small radio stations will not be able to compete and all we will have is one radio station company that will play the same 20 songs over and over again.
Seriously. Email/write/call your state representative about this bill and tell them how this bill is severely diminish the quality of all radios out there. Urge them to vote against it!!
It's enough that we have to pay higher taxes, but don't let them take away our free music.
Exactly. slashdot has degraded itself to 4chan. Nothing but MS hating, Linux loving fucks that also think everything should be free, especially if someone worked hard and requires payment for their product. Wow what a bunch of stupids this place has become.
Just because the ruling did not rule in Pirate Bay's favor does not mean their rights were violated. That's just plain childish and goes to show piracy makes you stupid.
You picked a wrong engineering field.

Implying Christ is our Lord and Savior.. Don't forget Abraham, Moses and blessed he is Mohammud.
I'd apply if I knew the requirements and experience??
The WII-U controller reminds me of the dreamcast controller.... looks very uncomfortable.

Just type in "Benzene in drinks" in google and you'll see links for soft drinks out there that contain it.
Thats why I only drink water and liquor

implying people take games to friends houses anymore
implying people don't play over the internet
implying you have friends

Look at how bad the call service for their tech-support is.... what's to say that hardware manufacturing will be any better?
The domestic market for Indian cars is very small and many of the big corporations there import many of their equipment.
Remember that you should stay away from writable dvd/cd media made in India....
Also, India has sweatshops, too, hundreds of them and a lax government crackdown on them....

With something so simple as to elastic collision, who would have thunk it?
Theoretically it makes sense, and what's cool about it is that it can be done with today's technology.
Pretty cool.
Next thing you know we'll have Romulans visiting. I'm liking all of this already..
