  6. PPC is better. on Dvorak Thinks Apple Will Switch to Intel · · Score: -1

There's no reason to get away from PPC. It's faster. See, Intel and AMD count the rising and falling edges of clock cycles as two seperate cycles. It helps in the MHz race. On the other hand, Motorola, Sun, and other chip makers only count the rising edge and not the falling edge. The result being that a 2 GHz PPC is just as fast in clock cycles as a 4 GHz P4. And running at essentially the same speed, the PPC easily outperforms the P4. There's no reason to switch away from it. And there's significant problems with the Itanium architecture. It's expensive in hardware, consumes a lot of power, runs quite hot, and isn't necessarily faster. The added cost really isn't worth it, especially not at this stage of the game. Maybe 10 years down the road, Itanium will be a viable platform, but not now. There's absolutely no reason for Apple to switch away from PPC.

Is it just me or is unix.org now a blank page? I believe if you're going to say that someone is wrongfully holding your domain (cybersquatting), you should also put something better there. A blank page is not better than a site for discussion. It's stupid decisions like ruling unix.org was cybersquatting which make it necessary to add new TLDs. It's the companies that buy up domains and sit on them.

Typically, Debian is regarded is a damn good distro, once you get past installing it. The install is the one thing driving newbies to Mandrake and Redhat. I personally didn't find the install to be bad at all. But will this new Debian feature a more simple install? If Debian could lose the reputation for being a bitch to install, it'd be able to compete with Mandrake and Redhat.
