You can turn a Galaxy S5 into a thicker phone by replacing the stock battery with a 5600 mAh battery.

The replacement battery is much thicker than the standard one, so it requires a new back cover for the phone. The result is a phone that is about twice as thick as the original, and twice as heavy. Since I always wear mine in a magnetic holster on my belt, I don't care about the extra weight.

I also carry several external batteries in my laptop bag, but I rarely need them. (I needed them more with my older phones, and for my wife's phone.)

  3. The Galaxy S4 and S5 both have a removable battery and a microSD slot.

Since the S6 has neither, I replaced my S3 with an S5 before the S3 had even died. I wanted to make sure I could avoid the "planned obsolescence" issue.

I noticed that the recently-announced S7 brought back the microSD slot, but I have not noticed if it has a replaceable battery.

  4. TFA says the new method will be faster. I call B.S. Using the new method, you have to interact with an app to generate a code. There is no way in hell that is faster than typing my PIN into an ATM.

Also, how can this be secured for the majority of users who do not lock their phones? Granted, an ATM could be modified to have a retina scanner or fingerprint scanner. But TFA says some machines would only need a software update. Wait until Jane Doe loses her phone (or it gets stolen) and a thief uses this new app to clean out her bank account.

I used startpage.com as my default search engine for several months. Unfortunately, I found their search results to be extremely limited. I ended up rerunning most of my searches on Google.

I now use DDG as my default in both Linux and Windoze. Although I occasionally still have to rerun my searches on Google, that doesn't happen near as often as it did with startpage.

Apple's iphones don't even allow "default apps" option. The default are all Apple apps. Click a link in an email and safari opens. No one complains about Apple loudly.

That's because people who buy Apple products know what they're getting into. "Only what Apple allows" and "too much $$$" are the Apple mantra. If you want choices, then go with Android.

When it comes to M$ Windoze, today's environment is nothing like what I "bought into" when I bought WinXP or Win7.

Like most things in life, it's not that black-and-white. It is a political nightmare to cancel the Games. Why? Because they only happen once every 4 years, and there is a limited time window for when an athlete can compete at the world-class level. For some athletes, cancelling the Games means they lose the chance of a lifetime. If they were to go, and win, they could be financially set for life because of endorsements. Losing that opportunity should be an individual's choice, not the government's choice.
