Avatar was the gold standard and nothing has surpassed it since , although I was also impressed by Life of Pi. 3rd rate post processed catch-penny type films make up the bulk of whats out there - the most abhorrent i have ever seen was Tim Burtons "Alice in Wonderland" how that left the cutting room floor is a mystery to me.
Joe six-pack see's the 3rd rate movies and assumes that this is as good as it gets.
3D Blu Ray is the only way to watch theses movies too - knock-off "Rips" from TPB are fine for 2D movies but somehow a lot is lost in any subsequent transcodings. I've not found any sources for high quality 3D streams (reccommend one to me?)
To sum up . 1) Very few examples of 3D movies actually filmed in 3D and produced by someone who has taken the time to make best use of the medium. 2) Too many examples of poor content with lame storylines filmed in 2D and post processed to 3D. These films are better seen in 2D (if at all) 3) TV Manufacturers, like the bad 3D movies tried to jump on the bandwagon and hence there are a lot of shitty 3D TV's out there.
Conclusion It still costs too much money to create and enjoy 3D movies the way they were intended.
I have an XPS15 rev (9530). Its really lovely but not anywhere near needing replacement yet. Its well made and easy to look after both inside and out. It runs Ubuntu flawlessley and I've upgraded the mechanical drive to an SSD. It really flies!
This new XPS13 looks nice and ill definitely be investigating Dells offerings when im ready for an upgrade as i am hoping this trend continues.
Its a shame they are so evil. Use Palm Oil (a major contributor of deforestation ) Buying up Land and water wells in developing countries, then selling their own water back to them. and then there was the Infant Formula fiasco.
I've done it - I have a Mac Mini which i just found to be unreliable as shit . I purchased it to try out some of the Mac Music / Audio software. After finding it a pain in the ass to use and half of my hardware being incompatible (PC keyboard, Midi Interface , External USB Audio ) I gave up and started using it as a Plex Media server. It ran ok for a while but after a few incremental updates it just became unstable.
So I was - fuck this for a laugh - wiped it and installed Linux and Kodi - and now its useful again.
Go figure . MacOS isnt what its cracked up to be for my use case, and the hardware compatibility is a complete joke unless you buy into the whole ecosystem, fuck that.

Anyone care to comment on how "HDR" will affect those of us who havent splashed out on 4k TV's yet?
What is HDR ?
Does HDR work on normal 1080p TV's ?
Will it need to be supported by Games and Apps such as Netflix and Fallout 4?

I would also like an answer on the roadmap for opening up the hardware.
There are some really interesting projects out there such as "Aros" (Native) . that would greatly benefit from this - particularly the USB stack.

The TV should just be a display device and we need an app that agregates content from different providers (Netflix / Amazon / Hulu / Whatever)
I dont care about whether what I want to watch comes from Netflix or Elsewhere . I want to use the same interface to access all my media from my subscriptions , local content and other sources. My user experience should be : select item for viewing and play on tv. Thats it - I dont want to spend half an hour browsing netflix for something to watch , and then another half an hour checking Amazon because i couldnt find anything suitable.
Glad I no-longer rent. But my experience with bad landlords left me wondering why there isnt something like this but in favour of tennants who wish to check if their prospective landlord isnt an arse.
Just my opinion -
Like mobile phones and tablets, you are at the mercy of the manufacturer to provide updates to the installed OS - and that the OS will have a good ecosystem of apps. In addition to that you need to consider that after only a year or two you can expect the manufacturer to potentially stop issuing updates and even deprecate functionality.
My next TV will be purchased on panel quality and hardware features such as amount of HDMI ports, power consumption and other physical attributes. If the smart features are good then i will use them - but for the most part my PS4 & Chromecast will provide most of the features a smart TV offers.

Rinse , Recycle, Repeat. This is a tired argument and while once it may have been a legitimate one its really no longer the case. I am constantly amazed that with windows you usually have to install bloatware and over engineered apps when installing drivers for a new hardware peripheral. On Linux it is about as plug and play as it gets , often requiring no additional installations at all.
I use Bitwig Studio and Renoise as my DAW's of choice. Hard to beat really I use a Scarlett 2i4 and have a bunch of hardware . Arturia Beatstep , Korg minikeys , Waldorf Blofeld. Never had any issues getting it to work I use Ubuntu for the desktop.
Neither DAW are open source but both have a thriving community.I'm happy to support vendors that support Linux. You can hear some of my stuff here.

No Mac or windows machines were used on any of my tracks.
If their bagless cyclone vacuum is anything to go by i would expect
freezer shelves that become brittle over time requiring replacement within months of purchase and accessories that dont work or dont seem to be designed with any particular purpose in mind.
Smart or not , I will be looking at other manufacturers when it comes to replacing our Fridge-Freezer. As far as i am concerned - im done with broken shelves and drawers, build quality is my number one priority.
Any advice on that particular matter would be welcomed.
Considering - At least the Dell Steam Machines have been built with help from Valve
Id say the specs of them would differ quite vastly from two year old machine.

Its cunts like this that propagate the myth that us open source dudes are arrogant pricks. Thanks for that

'day-pack' ? Im a Brit , and i can say this is a term I've never heard.
Im betting you wont be purchasing a Canon printer again though. I stopped purchasing Lexmark stuff for similar reasons.
Mod Parent Up Please.
Until it's as easy to install hardware as it is on OS X. Are you having a laugh ?

By rights then the XBone should be the clear winner.
F**k Europe.
What are the benefits ?
I use the launcher all the time, and so it will be missed :(
How does this ratio compare to the other platforms? N
