the telcos THOUGHT we wanted it because the focus groups told them " sure id like that on my cell phone" soo.. instead of getting joe six pack, bob the dentist, and suzy suburb homemaker to do the focus group.. Get... jim the out of work IT, bitter, sarcastic, REALISTIC guy, who will say "i just want a cell phone to be as cheap and useable to replace my homephone but ill pay a SMALL bit more to have it be portable"
because as much as joe, bob, and suzy like these neat gadgets.. after the first week there not going to use them, and there not going to pay for them.
when you say Lake Placid do you mean the movie about the large cow fed crocodile (or alligator whatever the fucking plot was)
i somehow doubt fox lost any more money than they did on the theater release.. this movie was shit.. even as a B-movie-watch-it-stoned-and-laff-at-the-bad-actors -getting-killed-kinda-movie.. it was still pretty bad
i got a friend that lives a 1/2 hour away.. hour round trip.. we like to exchange warez files.. CD's ISO's 750-1.4Gb. FTP over cable or DSL.. dosent beat me in my car
On December 10, 2003 we went out Warflying over Los Angeles and Orange counties. Not5150 was the pilot of the 4-seater beechcraft and Kallahar was the laptop/gps/antenna operator. In a 75 minute flight from Pomona to Los Angeles to Santa Monica to Long Beach to Orange and back to Pomona, 2013 access points were found. The antenna was a mere Orinoco Omnidirectional Range Extender which was hand held. Unfortunately, the GPS didn't work for the first 20 minutes, and the wireless card crashed (had to reboot) while we were over long beach (took 7 minutes).

everyone seems to agree that the company has the right to collect whatever info they want.
the question should be... how they USE that info? if they micro manage every minute of every person thats going to piss everybody off and be Orwellian, if they let the good employees do there thing and realize that there are exceptions that can be made it, and micro manage the constant abusers that the way it SHOULD work.
its like in tech support... on the phone logged in.. company A (compaq) managed every button i pressed.. how many times did i hit "mute" today, was it in the green yellow or red catagory (a # that was always "dynamic") well i hated that job even though i did a good at it.. company B (IBM)only ever had three stats or metrics.. and it was eather pass or fail, as long as two of them at any given time were a pass.. you were doing a good job and managers and supervisors let you do it.
Having whored myself to CPQ, HP and IBM (ya im the village bicycle of techsupport)
this is nothing new.. at all three companies the only software we supported was M$ thats its.. 3rd party.. call them..
Example of a Call..
oh? sorry... you REALLY REALLY want our help? cause you waited 45 minutes on hold.. and i actually speak english you can understand.. well.. were Not supposed to.. but for $35 charged to a major credit card i will be authorized for a one time support fee to ATTEMPT to resolve the issue you are having that you described to me

In reality this is all part of what IBM's On Demand moto is all about
increasing the USEABILITY of what you allready have, tie all your databases, CRM, and everything together... basically Middleware
i think its safe to say that everyone has the hardware.. what they need to be defensive and to utilize it is the software (linux, DB2, webpshere or tivoli)
MS and HPQ disagree because they want you to upgrade and they want to sell you that upgrade.. IBM makes there money on services.
