Not sure, but the point I was attempting to make was thus:

When I worked in support (last gig was supporting internal classrooms) we used Altiris LabExpert. They've changed the name to Application Management, but this may be what you want. It's not open-source, but comparing this program's prices to the other similar ones on the market, we saved a TON of money (one vendor wanted nearly $150K for all the computers we were going to use this on. I think we spent $7K at each site for a total of $28K)

It has a server and client modules. The clients sync with the server on reboot. If there are jobs in the queue, the server pushes the jobs, they're applied and rebooted.

To create jobs, you make a baseline of an OS, install the application, and then run the baseline app again. The application examines the entire disk as well as the registry and notes changes. You build a package containing just the changes.

You can even turn the packages into self-extracting .EXEs, burn to CD and deliver that way.

I recall seeing some people do the following (not sure if this is indicative of possible health issues):

1.Take a florescent light bulb - like the overhead lights in most garages and offices. Make sure its dark out.

    2. Stand under the powerline.

    3. Grab the light fixture with both hands - one at either contact point (the metal ring around the outside, not the pins).

    4. See if the light glows.

The theory (I guess) was that this indicated power/voltage/whatever was 'bleeding' from the powerlines. The folks who did this swore this was proof that the area wasn't safe to live in.

    YMMV.

As such, we have the right to limit what you can say about the company. Had you read your employee manual, you'd see that posting criticism in an open forum was grounds for termination.

Please bring the contents of your desk, your access badge, keys, and any other company property to the HR department at once.

Effective immediately, you're no longer employed here nor are you allowed on company property. If you appear on the property again, you'll be sent to our holding facility in Cuba for an undetermined amount of time.

Your final check, minus any monies due the company will be forwarded to your last known mailing address. Since that was actually within the company itself, count on not getting your last paycheck.

Also effective immediately, you no longer have any medical, dental, or life insurance benefits. Our providers have been notified. Attempts at gaining benefits will be seen as fraud and prosecuted to the full extent of the law.

Your citizenship and that of your immediate family has been revoked. You are required to move yourself, your family and all property (at your expense) from within the company immediately. Failure to do so will be seen as forfeiture of all property to the company.

I was fortunate enough to work for a boss who stated to development and the project managers that he would not sign off on releases simply to meet deadlines. If the powers that be wanted something shoved out the door simply to meet customer expecations, they'd do so without QAs consent - and that we'd not take the blame.
