  1. Re:Creation vs. Evolution debate at my university on Still More Evidence for Evolution · · Score: 2

I felf very sorry for the young teenagers that came with their church group. They were being raised by liars.

I was raised by such dolts. I believed it until about the age of 17. Then I broke out in a small way, and my world changed. Trust me, one of those kids will someday grow up to hold a doctorate in evolution.

I don't challenge my elders when they bring up the subject, we just agree to disagree, knowing that their young college-boy is pretty bright and really good at math, so he's probably right. Let it be.

(Ok I'll ask you since you seem to know about this stuff...) Ever heard the idea of caging atoms or molecules within buckyballs? I'm just wondering if much research is being done on that. It would be neat to see a whole new class of materials. That's what I would call human progress!

  14. "Gen. Ed." courses suck on Is A "Well-Rounded" Education a Good One? · · Score: 1, Flamebait

General Education requiremnets for graduation are a scam at my school. They have nothing to do with what I want to learn, and I take them bitterly, selling out my values just to get a good grade.

(You should take all those broad courses in high school. That's where you figure out what you want to do in life, and in college you go do it!)

The only real reason they demand these courses is to keep students like me in school for 5 years, since many colleges are run like a business, not a traditional place to learn and train for your interest.

  16. Yes on Human Blood Cells Grown · · Score: 2

People don't like needles. They hurt. And if you get an incompetent nurse, he or she can kill you with so much as an air bubble accidentally entering your blood. Rarely, a contaminated needle will infect a patient or a health care worker.

And of course there were thousands of deaths from AIDS infected blood in the 1980s. Who says that some other blood-transmitted disease isn't lurking that we haven't discovered yet?

I only trust the safety of our blood supply as much as I trust the lab technicians to properly test and handle it. Many of them are highly skilled at cheating their annual drug tests.

Woa, who said anything about color movies? Sure the Technicolor Corporation claims to be making progress with their techniques, but I seriously doubt that anything will come of it.

No, what I was thinking of is more of an interactive experience, that's what movie goers want, according to the best research. Think lasers. Think fog machines, right there in the theatre!

What we need is someone to sell this technology. Someone who's bad... and daring. Someone who can dance, and sing, and get the whole family out for a magical evening together!

  18. In the Future on The Future Of 3D · · Score: 3, Funny

Imagine if you had a system, where you used two movies, layed one on top of the other. It would look blury of course, but if the viewer were to wear a pair of expensive, high-tech filter glasses (having differently coloured lenses), a stereoscopic 3-D image could be achieved. I bet in 2 years time we could have a working proto-type, and then actually bring it to market within 10 years given the proper funding and agressive marketing.
