I don't know if everybody wins except from the perspective that we all have to share the planet and will all therefore benifit from keeping it clean. What I am getting at is that a bottle deposit like system puts the burden on the manufacturer assuming that the consumer will return it to the distributer and then the distributer will return it to the manufacturer. The deposit, for items not going to the landfill, will net out but the manufacturer will be stuck with a monitor that they will have to then deal with. They will not like this at all. It is much cheaper to build something from new materials to be disposable. My point is that we will need to work hard to get such legislation passed because these companies stand to lose money from it.
There is another benifit to this system and perhaps an even more important reason to put it in place. As it stands the manufacturer only has incentive to build monitors that are cheap to produce. If they are required to deal with the cost of recycling and/or disposal they will eventually work toward balancing that cost with the rest. In other words it become in their interest to manufacturer the monitors so they can be recycled easier. If this cost is born only by they consumer or paid for by general taxes the manufacturers will have little reason to go to the extra effort and expense. Companies rarely do the right thing just because.
Only one off hand that I know personally. William E. Sandine, Distinguished Professor emeritus in the Department of Microbiology at Oregon State University. He spoke a couple of times a year, off campus of course, on the scientific evidence for a Creator.
Does it strike anyone else as having had its head popped off and put back on upside down? I could see that freaking the kiddos out on the first glance but I am betting that the majority got over it pretty quickly.
"Me and buddies would love when we saw loud bikers get off their bikes. We'd walk right up to them and just start wailing "VROOOM VROOOM VRRROOOOOM!!" into their ears."
Past tense, you are actually claiming to have said this to people? First, that you posted this anonymously, speaks volumes to the likelihood that you are completely full of crap. Second, I doubt that anyone, even a 5 foot tall motorcycle grandma, would take such a direct and public insult without belting you one. Get upset and tell them you don't like the noise, sure. Get in a persons face and attempt to humiliate them? If you got anything less than a broken nose the judge would tell you that you were stupid to provoke them. This post is the biggest load of crap I have seen in a long time. And here I have already used my last set of mod points, rats.
Helmets do not save lives. Being smart, alert and activly avoiding hazards saves lives. Lots of people die every year with helmets. A helmet will not save the idiot that speeds, shows off and otherwise doesn't pay attention. Dumb luck might but the helmet won't. That being said, you should still wear your helmet. Wearing a helmet is definitly safer that not. Just don't let it be your sole defense on the road.
I would expect to see at least some benefit from the kernel and other OS processes running on one core and an app or game, even if single threaded, running on the other. Now it certainly won't be a twofold improvement but I would expect at least 20%. I have seen this kind of improvement when running a heavily used database on a dual processor machine.
Texas is not considered to be in the Midwest. At least not as far as Texans are concerned. The midwest is north of here. Texas is a southern state but your right in that we are not a part of 'The South' as such. Perhaps the SouthWest would be more accurate, but probably not. Texas is really just Texas.
Nah, you just celebrate your birthday on 30 May with some of your friends and then again on 1 June with others. Then as a bonus, in 2008 you can celebrate a third time on 3 June when 31 May would have come around. Folks will be buying you drinks for days before they catch on. Doesn't sound to bad to me.
"I'd give my left arm for another right arm in place of my current left arm."... but then it would become very difficult to play baseball or carry heavy boxes.
Amen. It looks like Larry boy is trying to get the kids hooked. Then in a few months, when he releases a mostly unnecessary upgrade, ransom our "national security" back to us. rinse, repeat, ad infinitum.
It just salts the wound to think that it will likely be the DBMS that has got to be the biggest pain in my ass to administer.
I am going to have to agree with the coward here. Flips theory is interesting but a bit stretched. Ocam's Razor needs to be used on this mess. The only way I see them pulling this one out for the sequel (Whether you like it or not, you know it is coming.) is to play it off as a nightmare induced by severe head trauma during the crash. I don't like it either but it not the first time Hollywood has used that trick.
"Useful" is also what your employer thinks will increase your productivity. Can they convince the suits that this is a good thing for the work place? Dunno but they sure gunna try. Sure would be nice to have the equivalent of a 72" display at work though.:)

At least we know he won't stoop as low as to make 'The Sith Lords' Christmas Special'... or we hope anyway... run Lucas run.

Is a person a Luddite simply because they question the wisdom of doing something that is new?
Yeah, and we should have seen this coming because His Holiness loves to try to pull a prank like this each year...
Some how I don't think so. While your comment was creative, perhaps a bit of respect for a dying leader it more in order.

Unfortunatly, given the way some people raise their kids, a nannybot may be a big improvement.

I hate it when people gas on the way out the door. It's just rude. :)

We will also have very few people volunteering to be an election supervisor.
Mostly true. The exception being the presidential race. In which case we are voting for which set of electors will cast votes for president.
