But, a lot of people consider Mac OS X to be worth a significant premium over Windows XP.

You mean like - Mac owners?

A lot more people (myself included) find it to be an uneeded expense for little gain. Breaking free of the PC hype here for a moment - I've been "blue screen/pop up/adware infested " free for years. To me it's a lot of FUD. Windows machines do get nailed - like my dad's did a few years back - a bit of education, and he's been free of those problems as well.

So this "headless Mac" is still overpriced for its performance potential. Heck - I can get a laptop nowadays for the same price.

The lawsuit is based on him buying the gas that's been specially formulated to only work with the chevy trailblazer. I don't agree with the lawsuit per se, just as I don't agree with Apple going after the website because of the sub 500 mac.

Does it? I used to dabble in the scene - as a result I have liscenced copies of Photoshop and a dozen other chunk change products. Had I not taken the time to get to use Photoshop - I never would of paid the pricetag to try it. It's too much money to throw away in case you can't use it or can't get over the learning curve.

When Napster was running strong - I bought two or three cds a week at Best Buy. In the past two years I've purchased exactly two cds. they are from an Indy band that I heard playing music at an art fair (you might like them http://www.patchouli.net/). I refuse to listen to the radio from all the stupid advertising and the rehash of whatever one hit wonders they have rotating.

The point I'm trying to make is that what I did when I did it garnered sales from me since I got to pick out what was best for me. By not having that option, I just don't go out and get them. Did they lose sales from me? No, not when I was doing it - Because I eventually ponied up the cash. Are they losing sales now? I'm shure photoshop CS is probably worth the money - but since I can't work with it for a bit to find out - I'll just stick with the legit 6.0 copy I have. Same for the music, I'm sure there a few bands out there I would purchase cd's from - till then? I think I'll just order another cd from Patchouli.

Head up your ass these last few months, eh?

After actually reading the article in the lancet - the only ones that have their "Head up your ass these last few months, eh? " are the ones who quote the 100,000 dead. The methods used for sampling and extrapolation have a error range of 8,000 to 100,000 - Yet - I don't see anyone using the low range number when quoting the article. And gosh knows we can't be intellectually honest in our quest to demonize the war in Iraq.

I know this'll get modded as flamebait or something - but I encourage you to read the actual article before blindly accepting the 100,000 dead quote.

Here's a quote from it Evidence suggests that the mortality rate was higher across Iraq after the war than before, even excluding Falluja. We estimate that there were 98000 extra deaths (95% CI 8000-194 000) during the post-war period in the 97% of Iraq represented by all the clusters except Falluja. In our Falluja sample, we recorded 53 deaths when only 14 were expected under the national pre-war rate. This indicates a point estimate of about 200000 excess deaths in the 3% of Iraq represented by this cluster. However, the uncertainty in this value is substantial and implies additional deaths above those measured in the rest of the country.

So mod away - I just wanted to clear this up.

I had all the over the counter medications for allergies just to stop the inflamed nasel passages, the stuffed up nose, the sinus headaches. As soon as I lived in a smoke free zone, and worked in a smoke free zone - ALL of that went away. I haven't taken a sudafed since. The sad part about it is that my parents and my brother smoke cigarretes - so it's painful to visit their homes with the clouds wafting along.

And the reason I mention smoking in cars is that if your window is open, and my window is open - I can smell that smoke from two cars away. I shouldn't have to.
