  1. Sigh on Anti-Patriot Act Movement Expands · · Score: 1

In reading thru all these comments, It's plain to see that most if not the majority of those posting have actually read the patriot act.

Not only that - it expires soon enough.

I'm not so sure this is just about getting to Mars and the Moon. I think China is actually attempting to do what we did to the soviet union and trying to get us to escalate in spending in order to quicken an economic collapse. I don't think we're ready for another "cold war" just yet.

I DID spend a few hundred dollars when I was a kid playing the game - and this version is better than the atari's version of missle command.

I hadn't noticed I was doing so till this article got posted. Thanks for pointing out my 260.00 Axim is entertaining me more than my thousand dollar computer ;/

I think RIAA might of sent the bands some funky numbers to scare them into talking out.

Why do we need more top level domains? It's already getting too expensive to protect sites - I ain't a freaking money making corporation, and I don't want folks that troll my site to take out my domain name with a new TLD suffix in order to slam my site when it comes up in a google search.

That's all I need - some Hollywood guy grabbing my .com/.net/.org name under a .tv or .la domain then using deep pockets and lawyers on call to sue MY site away from ME.

It's fricking BOGUS - It's just a way to milk large corporations for money to protect the copyright, and it ends up screwing the little guys like me.

This may be offtopic - but it's not that hard to have 2 email addresses (or more). I have one that I use solely for whenever I have to register for something. I only have to go in once a month and delete everything.

If people are that adamant about giving out their email address, why not try this?

Because if you don't buck that system, it becomes the norm. Then the NYT may decide (along with other news services) - hey - now to keep that free Subscription going you need to click on the link included in our ads to keep your free account alive.

See, the NYT keeps moving forward. I subscribed once. Then my e-mail started getting spam - so the next time I regged, i used admin@nytimes.com. Then they started to filter for that, so I would reg other sites that demanded a real e-mail addy like techsupport@real.com.

Now apparently, they are using the login/challenge to keep their spam list alive.

Why do they need to do that? Why is it that important for them to collect a spam list? I say - let those who register because they don't mind do so, but don't force others who refuse to register to be penalized.

I can see a point to registering if they pulled ads, or gave a bonus - but they don't do that for the regged folks.

As such - I certainly do enjoy skewing their stats and regging bogus e-mails that I don't even know exist. I keep hoping that one day they'll get the point and pull that stupid idea.

course, the odds on surviving to get to that point are against you.

Best thing to do is find a person who just bets the pass line, and ask to ride his odds.

too bad you're in the minority.

Guess me, and my entire family and friends are in the minority. Including my seventy year old grandfather.

I have a lan of windows boxes, all tweaked and maintained to do what I need them to do - From the satellite router, to the server machine for my developmeent stuff.

No virus hits, no worms, no trojans - one server has an uptime of over a year (win 2k).

That's why i laugh at folks who talk of BSOD's - they don't happen if you maintain your stuff - stay clear of commercial p2p's and use your systems for things other than pron.

One other thing I'd like to point out - It's funny when a linux distro is cited here with a vulnerability that is patched within a few days, But microsoft has a two year old patch that folks forgot to apply, and somehow Microsoft is to blame.

It's little things like the BSOD's, the disparity of treatment that cheapens the argument of anti-microsoft folks.

Microsoft has done some really stupid things - but one would thing that rational argument would be applied isntead of (for lack of a better word) "Following" geek mantra that just isn't real anymore.
